The Bay State College School of Nursing and Health Sciences held a pinning ceremony with faculty in a socially distanced and live streamed event on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Thirty-seven students were awarded their nursing pin, a time-honored tradition that dates back to the 1860's.

In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball when he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers team as the first baseman. Robinson stood up for equal rights way before he started his career in baseball. Every April 15th, all major league team celebrates Jackie Robinson Day in honor of his contributions to Major League Baseball.

The month of February is Black History Month. Every Monday, we will be acknowledging strong and outstanding individuals in the African-American community. This week we are talking about Amanda Gorman! At the age of 22, Amanda Gorman because the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history during the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021. She studied Sociology at Harvard, where she graduated cum laude. She is also the youngest board member of 826 National, the largest young writing network in the United States.
