🌟🌟🌟🌟Friday SUPERHEROES Spotlight!🌟🌟🌟🌟 Today we would like to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Linda A. who has worked in Dining Services for the past 5 years at Bay Village! Linda is the Poolside Café Hostess. Since the pandemic she has been taking meal reservations for the residents to pick up with our Dash N’ Dine program. Linda absolutely LOVES working at Bay Village because she just adores the residents. During meal times is when she is able to learn more about the resident’s lives as she hears about the different adversities so many of them had to overcome. One of the most important things Linda has observed in her role here at Bay Village is how the residents enjoy the friendships and companionships amongst each other. It is rewarding for her to see that! While during these last seven months have been a bit of a challenge with the pandemic, she would like everyone to know that the Dining Services Staff have been working harder than ever, scrambling to get the food the residents want, while having the staff give 150% every day! She is very happy to be a part of a FABULOUS TEAM! Thank you Linda A. for being one of Bay Villages SUPERHEROES!!

It is because of this team that Bay Village keeps functioning every day! 🌟🌟THANK YOU BAY VILLAGE SUPERHEROES!🌟🌟

Bay Village has a wonderful partnership with Wilkinson Elementary School. During the month of August Bay Village was asked to participate in the Wilkinson GEAR classroom partner program. GEAR stands for Giving that Extends our Academic Reach. The GEAR program helped provide teachers the funds to purchase materials needed to improve every student’s educational experience. In 2019, Bay Village Residents raised $2,300 and their goal was to surpass that. Donations this year exceeded $6,000 which gave each Teacher $200 towards their classroom materials. Principal Susan Nations, stated, “Your above and beyond effort will also help us as we support students with uniform assistance, virtual field trips, and experiences while we cannot travel, extra books for the students and much more! You have certainly made a difference for our staff and students this school year”.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Today Resident Services had a table with pens, calendars, & information packets on breast cancer to hand out to the residents. While walking around campus there were many staff members and residents who were wearing pink to show their support! For those who are reading this post who knew of someone fighting breast cancer, who has survived breast cancer, or may be fighting it themselves here are a few quotes that may help you get through today, tomorrow, or every day here after: “We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up or fight like hell.” –Lance Armstrong “I am here today because I refused to be unhappy. I took a chance.” –Wanda Sykes “The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.” – C.C. Scott “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” –Unknown
⭐️⭐️⭐️Friday SUPERHEROES Spotlight⭐️⭐️⭐️ Today we would like to give a FANTASTIC SHOUT OUT to Mary Shaw who is the Billing Specialist here at Bay Village! Grew up in Muskegon, Michigan with her 3 siblings. She is married to her husband Dennis for 44 years, they have 3 daughters, Niki, Kelley, & Kyan, and one son, Colby. They also have 8 grandchildren. Mary has worked in the billing department for various health care companies for over 30 years. She has been at Bay Village for 10 years. Staying focused, being attentive, and extremely organized are some of Mary’s strengths that help complete her days work. Her job consists of entering charges for all 350+ residents. Those charges consist of services from the beauty shop, items from the country store or gift shop, home health care services, transportation services, along with any other extra services our residents may use. She also prepares monthly statements, post payments, creates profiles for all new independent residents, and prepares for audits. Overall, Mary does an abundant amount of data entry which can be challenging especially when there are new data programs that she needs to learn and work out any kinks. Having a great listening ear, Mary assists many of the residents with any billing questions they may have, as well as hearing many interesting life stories they like to share with her. She enjoys working at Bay Village not only because of the marvelous residents, but also because of her fun co-workers! When she’s not at work Mary spends her time gardening, at the beach, DIY home improvement projects, or traveling! A compelling fact about Mary, she used to show Havanese and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Dogs. Her 1 year old Havanese named Charlie was the “Winners Dog” in one of the Fort Myers dog shows. Below is a picture of Mary at Kensington Palace during one of her trips to the UK. Thank you Mary Shaw for your persistent excellent work!

⭐️⭐️⭐️Friday SUPERHEROES Spotlight⭐️⭐️⭐️ Today we would like to give a SPECTACULAR SHOUT OUT to Yuney Jara, one of our Health Center Housekeeping Aids! Yuney is originally from Cuba. In 2001 her husband won the lotto which prompted their move to the United States. By 2004 Yuney, her husband and oldest son made the big move to Michigan. The weather was too cold so they decided to move down to Florida in 2004. Yuney has 4 boys; her oldest is 19 years old, the middle child is 10 years old and the youngest are 9 year old twins. The rest of Yuney’s extended family still lives in Cuba. May of 2013 Yuney was hired in at Bay Village. These projects consist of cleaning vents, curtains, cleaning out the resident’s rooms, and assists in putting up holiday decorations around the community. Yuney is a hard worker, enjoys working with her co-workers, talking with the residents, and thinks she has the best boss! Yuney likes to play soccer, softball, and dances in her free time. She also really enjoys cooking with her husband. As a family they often go to the park & the beach. Most of all, Yuney loves to shop! ⭐️⭐️⭐️Friday SUPERHEROES Spotlight⭐️⭐️⭐️ Today we would like to give a SHOUT OUT to Kevin Peters, Renovation Technician! Kevin is originally from New Jersey. He has been married to his beautiful wife Vedda for 42 years. They have 1 son, who has served in the Army now for the past 10 years and resides in New Mexico. In 1985 Kevin moved to Florida so he could get away from all of the snow. He had his own renovation company until 2007. Kevin is part of the renovations team at Bay Village. His job is to prepare the apartments for all of the new residents moving in. He also coordinates any changes that need to be made & completion dates with Karyn, the Move-In Coordinator. One of Kevin’s favorite things about his job is working with his good friend Mike every day! Kevin has a siberian husky named Nikki, she apparently is a bit crazy but much loved! On his days off he enjoys going to Perkins with his wife and seeing his good old friend Colleen (Karyn’s sister) who waits on him. Interesting fact about Kevin is that he went to middle school with Joseph Gearo, one of the other maintenance guys here at Bay Village. Thank you so very much for all of your hard work Kevin! We appreciate everything you do!
⭐️⭐️⭐️Friday SUPERHEROES Spotlight⭐️⭐️⭐️ Today we would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Michael Kennelly, Transportation Supervisor! Michael is originally from Columbus, Ohio. He has been married to his lovely wife Marcy for 43 years. They have 2 sons, one in Jacksonville, FL and the other one lives in Olympia, Washington. He is a proud Grandpa of 3 wonderful grandkids; Caroline, David Z., and Iilablu. In 1998 Michael was in Chicago training for a job. After his training they asked if he wanted a position in Chicago or Florida, within 5 minutes he & Marcy made the decision to move to Florida. Michael has been working at Bay Village for 4 years now. As the role of the Transportation Supervisor he delegates the grocery runs, pharmacy runs, and doctor appointment runs between himself and the other drivers. Before COVID Michael used to take the residents out to the theatres, church services, the beaches, and other fun trips out. Michael used to love going to the grocery store as he enjoys cooking at home, now it’s not as fun since he makes so many trips to Publix through the week. One tip he got from one of our residents is that you always have to squeeze the pears to know if they are good or not. On pharmacy days Michael thought he would just be picking up medications for the residents. Somehow that has turned into picking up makeup, hair root cover up, and other beauty supplies as well. Overall Michael enjoys working at Bay Village as he sees and hears how HAPPY the residents are living here. He is also very happy with how the directors and administration team work so well together! A few interesting facts about Michael is that he plays tennis and is a BIG OHIO STATE football fan!! Thank you Michael for all that you do at Bay Village. We appreciate you!

Regina has been working at Bay Village for 13 months now. Above all, Bay Village Residents are her first priority as she obtains the level of service, respect, and dignity that they deserve! Solving issues and concerns as best she can is a daily routine. She follows the old saying: “see something, say something”. Regina lives one day at a time and chooses to make that day worthwhile. She is pleased to be working at Bay Village as she loves having the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives even if it is just getting them to smile. Working as the Reception Supervisor has improved her listening skills. Each day she leaves work gaining more than she came in with. Outside of work she spends her time watching football as Joe Montana was her favorite player, now Tom Brady is because he watched and learned from Joe Montana. Interesting fact about Regina is that many years ago while she was still in NJ she blew her entire year’s bonus on autographs from Joe Montana! She also used to take her nephew to get different athlete signatures at a conference center outside Newark airport. Regina, thank you for being on Bay Village’s front line and doing a MARVELOUS JOB, we appreciate you and everything you do!
