⚡️ “How much ‘speed’ (bandwidth) do I need for video streaming services, online schooling, gaming, etc?”
With increasing demands from streaming, gaming and connected devices, it’s a question we get often. So we’re here to set the record straight:
🐢 Video streaming services typically only need 3Mbps for a standard video, and 5Mbps for an HD video.
🐇 With 2 HD videos streaming simultaneously, you’re looking at 10Mbps.
🐆 For a seamless video gaming experience, you'll want to be around 15–20 Mbps
At 15-20Mbps, you’ll be able to access most content without issue and play games online 🎮 without any noticeable delay, and utilize things like video conferencing 📹
If you’re still not sure which internet speed is ideal for your household, message us today!

THIS SUNDAY is Daylight Saving Day! Don't forget! Any clocks that don't update themselves automatically should be turned back by one hour!

⏰ It’s question and answer time! ⏰
We often get questions about LATENCY. Today we’re here to answer those common questions:
What is Latency❓
👉 Latency measures the time it takes for data to get to its destination across a network.
Why is Low Latency a good thing❓
👉 A lower latency network connection is one that experiences very small delay times.
What Latency do you need❓
👉 Any latency below 100 milliseconds (ms) is considered good, and below 50 ms is very good.
What latency do I need for gaming❓
👉 Anything at 100ms is acceptable for gaming. However, the 20ms to 40ms range is considered optimal.
Which kind of connection has lower latency❓
👉 Fixed Wireless connection can offer much faster speeds and lower latency than Satellite internet, which can often have latencies as high as 700ms. This is why Satellite internet always feels so sluggish, even if you have enough bandwidth.
If you have any more questions regarding latency, don’t hesitate to message our friendly staff of industry professionals! 🙋 🙋♂️
Ever wonder why Satellite Internet is so slow 🐢 ?
It might be an “upgrade” from dialup ☎️ , but other than that, there isn’t much of a reason to use satellite internet. Here’s why:
👉 The weather affects the signal path
👉 Poor latency or high ping rate
👉 Minor obstructions can affect your signal
👉 Bandwidth limitations
👉 VPN performance is poor
Since Fixed Wireless antennas are attached to land-based towers that are closer to your home, you'll get significantly less lag and latency with this kind of connection compared to Satellite Internet.

More tower pictures! Lots of ice.
We are out and about trying to restore service. Here is a couple of pictures of some of our towers and the ice coverage.
Part of problem! Power and roads not drivable to go refill generators! We will keep trying.

UPDATE:
Weather had hindered progress in restoration of service. Weather forecast are for lows in single digits with high wind and wind chills below zero. Something we do not typically see in the Hill Country.
Freezing mist and black ice on roads has mad travel difficult. TXDOT has closed the roads in much of Gillespie County due to wrecks and car stalls along the roadway.
Have work with emergency management on clearing damage associated with wrecks or lines down on the road.
The transmission line providing service to the substation in the communities of Harper and Doss have been out all day. We will have to make additional distribution repairs in the Harper area to get all the circuits back on.
JPL Contractors continue to work in the Harper and Cherry Mountain Loop areas that had many poles down caused by heavy ice.
The Buchanan Dam and Inks lake are out due to a distribution line near the lake being down.
Outage numbers have bounced between 5,000 and 6,500. We also have been monitoring system load. Extremely low temperatures will create record demand on the CTEC’s already taxed system and on the Texas grid.
CTEC has received three shipments of materials to assist with repairs. There is great demand for distribution materials for the regions with the extreme weather.
We are hoping for sunshine on Monday to start melting off the heavy ice across the CTEC system.

💐 Love is in the air! The love for internet, Wi-Fi and all things streaming! Which technology has stolen your heart this year? 💌
Just want to let everyone know that our technical staff is working non-stop to keep our network up! The next few days are going to be difficult for all of us with the insanely low temps for our area. The biggest challenges we are facing is Ice on our antennas and power outages in the area. We are working diligently with generators and battery back ups. Please stay safe and know we are working hard to keep things running smoothly. Shout out to our amazing employees who are braving the cold, wet and long hours.
Update: We are back up at about 92%. Numerous tower sites are on generator power. We have a tower crew planned to climb tomorrow to restore damaged equipment. The outages still are at Enchanted Rock. A tower on Highway 965 and a few people on four other towers. We are still working diligently to restore to 100%. Commercial power remains out biggest challenge. Making great progress.
Shout out to our awesome Technicians. Here are a couple of pictures of what they are facing to get to towers to fuel generators. Down power lines. Trees in the road. Heavy snow and ice.
Update: Technical staff are out trying to refill generators and put additional ones in place. The power outages are still causing our outages. The roads are in rough shape but we are trying. Please be patient as we try to balance safety with service.
Why is my internet speed slower than usual? 😕
If your video is lagging and downloads are taking forever, don't bang your head on your keyboard or go crazy quite yet 🙉 Try these fixes to put your digital life back in the fast lane 🚗💨
Try moving your router out into the open. Creating an open space for its signal can have a remarkable improvement on your WiFi speed.
There may be devices on the same frequency causing interference to your signal. Those could be microwaves, cordless phones/baby monitors, or a neighbors network.
Add-on programs and other programs that are running can affect your internet speed. Check your computers for any programs that are running in the background.
Sometimes, your computers get infected with viruses that steal your resources without you knowing. Try Installing effective and trusted antivirus software to avoid this.
If none of these quick fixes work, it could be time to upgrade your internet speed 🏃
To discuss your options, give us a call or message us! We’re a local company here to keep your internet speeds where they need to be 😊
