Welcome to the second day of OCD Awareness Week. Research suggests that more than 2 million adults in the U.S. are currently living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Signs that someone has OCD typically appear among adults and older adolescents, but children can also be affected. Even though so many people have OCD, plenty of individuals continue to believe myths and false information. We all need to work together to promote the facts and increase awareness of OCD. This video provides a quick introduction to OCD: http://ow.ly/llNT102p8aW IOCDF.ORG What is OCD? | International OCD Foundation
Today, as Mental Illness Awareness Week concludes, we observe World Mental Health Day. This year's edition of WMHD is focused on increased investment in mental health. Self-care is an essential element of a healthy lifestyle. But your efforts to achieve and maintain the quality of life you deserve have to include monitoring your mental health. The process of voting is a fundamental piece of our nation as a democracy. We are immensely proud of our considerate staff here at Belmont who went the extra mile to make sure the voters in our care had the opportunity to exercise their right to participate in this year’s presidential election! Our team waited in line yesterday to obtain proxy ballots, and again today to ensure that each vote was turned in on time. Their commitment to both our country and the individuals we treat is incredible, and we are so grateful for their efforts! 🗳🇺🇸
The continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to make many changes in our lives. Plenty of us have even altered how, where, and when we vote. For example, many states have reported record numbers of early voting, including citizens who voted by mail. But experts expect that millions of Americans will still show up at polling places on Election Day to cast their ballots. If you intend to vote in person on November 3, it's important to take a few basic but essential safety precautions. Here's a thorough article that contains a wealth of information about staying safe while voting: http://ow.ly/4f9T102r1Nf HEALTHLINE.COM How to Vote Safely in Person This November
Have a wonderful Halloween (and please be sure to stay safe too)!
One valuable lesson 2020 has taught us is that masks aren't only worn on Halloween anymore. With flu season already underway, we encourage you to keep yourself safe by wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose. The CDC website features some fun and simple ways to make masks from the comfort of home: http://ow.ly/jusA102qQRu
Halloween is a thoroughly enjoyable tradition for individuals of all ages. But we need to ensure that our fun doesn't come at the expense of people who have been struggling. This is a friendly reminder to please avoid costumes that mock mental illness. Let's use our creativity to have fun without promoting stigma. http://ow.ly/mLd9102qEU2 NAMI.ORG You Can Be Scary This Halloween Without Perpetuating Stigma | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness
