Berger Sanitation, Inc. is a local, third generation family owned and operated business. We have been servicing the Lehigh Valley for almost 50 years and it is our continued goal to provide our customers with prompt, efficient, friendly, and reliable service. We take pride in being honest, fair, and treating all of customers the same. We have never used high pressure sales, bait and switch tactics, or made promises we couldn't keep only to cover them with hidden fees. We most certainly aren't looking to "build our books" with the intent to sell the company. With several family members actively involved in the company, as well as living in the communities we serve, we surely aren't going away anytime soon. These are challenging times and we especially want to thank our loyal customers who are committed to supporting us. We look forward to continue building long standing relationships with our customers based on trust, honesty, reliability, and excellent customer service. Your business is important to us and it is our hope that we can continue to service our customers for many years to come. Again, thank you for standing by us! It is very much appreciated. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns. We are always here for you!
This week we celebrate Waste and Recycling Workers Week. I want to thank our employees for their hard work and dedication. Our industry is essential and our workers have been on the front line, without failure, making sure our customers’ waste was collected and disposed of throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic. Thank you for the amazing job you continued to do in order to keep our communities safe and clean! You, our everyday heroes, rose to the challenge.
We made it through another week at Berger Sanitation. A big thank you to all of our drivers, mechanics, and helpers......you all are our everyday heroes. You continue the essential service of picking up and disposing our waste and recycling, despite the dangers imposed by Covid-19. Also a special thank you to Vanessa Berger and April Wolf. It was an insanely busy week in our office and due to a shortage of office staff, these 2 ladies did the jobs of what 5 people normally do. They handled customers, did billing, and assisted me in fulfilling the duties and day to day functions that need to be done to keep our operation running. Then because schools and daycares have been closed, they have been bringing their children to work for over 3 weeks. So on top of their job duties, they also had to be mom and teacher as well. These two surely are my superheroes! Don't know how they kept it together, but I owe them big time! Our prayers continue to our first responders, police officers, firefighters, doctors, and nurses as well as those that continue to keep society running such as store workers, pharmacists, delivery workers, and of course, the garbage collectors.

As we learn how to function in this COVID-19 era, here are six things that we can collectively do as a society to help our garbage collectors and other sanitations workers stay safe. https://www.rubiconglobal.com/blog/keeping-sanitation-workers-safe/ #HaulerHeroes
For nearly 50 years, our family business has been protecting the health and safety of our communities by providing sound environmental collection and disposal of trash and recyclables.
Now more than ever, our company is needed to help combat the spread of illness. We are taking additional steps to ensure the safety of our employees as well as our customers.
The COVID-19 situation has been evolving rapidly and workplaces like ours, have been trying to keep up with new information about how the disease can spread. While the consensus remains that respiratory transmission is the highest and most common risk, new research began circulating last week that also raised ongoing concerns about surface transmission.
The findings, published by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indicates COVID-19 can live on materials such as cardboard and plastic, in some cases for as many as three days. This has prompted us to alter our current collection policies.
We have an automated system and have instructed our drivers to remain in their trucks as much as possible. They have been instructed not to leave their vehicle to collect anything additional beyond what customers have thrown in their toters. There will be no collection of any loose items outside of your trash and recycling toters. All trash must be bagged and put in your designated trash toter. This reduces employee exposure to items like used tissues and other personal hygiene products. Recycled items should continue to be placed in your designated recycling toter as well. If you have cardboard, we ask that you cut it up into pieces and place in your toter or break down the boxes and lay flat under the lid on top of the toter. Any cardboard boxes outside of your toter will not be collected at this time. In these cases, customers will have to store boxes which will then be collected at a later time once there is less of a threat of the virus spreading. Also, there will be no bulk pickups at this time.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow sanitary protocols recommended by the CDC as well as OSHA. Our employees have been instructed to follow proper hand washing and sanitizing. We are also reinforcing our employees continue to wear required personal protective equipment, including gloves and protective eye wear.
Our commitment is to people, our employees, their families, and our customers come first. We know removing waste is essential to the health and safety of our community and we will continue to do everything we can to do so while finding ways to keep people safe. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available. Right now, we ask for your patience and understanding as we all work together to get through this.
To our employees, to our customers, to our healthcare workers and first responders, Thank you!
Update: The decision was made to cancel service today. We will operate on a holiday schedule. Everyone will be picked up a day later. We apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe!
Due to the winter storm warning, we will be delaying service by at least 6 hours. Normally the drivers begin at 12 AM, but for now are waiting until 6 AM. If we find that the roads are too bad in the morning, there is a possibility that we won't operate at all tomorrow. If that becomes the case, then we will operate on a holiday schedule and everyone will be picked up a day later. We apologize for the inconvenience and certainly will post an update once we see how the storm plays out. Stay safe!
Due to the impending storm, we have made the decision to delay all services. Thursday and Friday routes will now be picked up one day later. Our office will also be closed. For further updates, check WFMZ, bergersanitation.com or this Facebook page. We apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe!
Friday residential customers: It will be service as usual tonight on Christmas Eve. Please have your toters out by 9 PM this evening. Friday's route is a short one and it was our drivers' decision to work tonight. They should be done between 3-5 AM and then can head home to spend Christmas with their families and not worry about having to work the weekend. All of us at Berger Sanitation wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday! Merry Christmas!
Tuesday-Friday Residential Customers: Just a reminder that due to the recent winter storm, we are operating a day behind schedule the rest of the week. Tuesday customers please have your trash out tonight. We are going to resume service, but the drivers will be starting at 4 AM rather than 12 AM. More than likely the drivers will get a little behind schedule, but we ask for your patience as our drivers navigate windy conditions and snow covered roads in order to get routes completed. Again we apologize for the inconvenience.
Tuesday-Friday Customers: Due to the severe weather conditions, all services will be delayed by at least a day. Commercial customers please be sure to keep snow cleared away from the front of dumpsters. Dumpsters that aren’t accessible will not be able to be serviced.
Monday Residential Customers: We had a few roads that the drivers were unable to service last night due to road conditions. The drivers will service these stops on Wednesday.
We will continue to update our website and Facebook page as needed. Any delays will be posted on WFMZ as well. We ask for your patience and understanding as we all deal with this major winter storm. We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our best to get everything done as soon as possible. Please stay safe!
Monday Residential Customers:
We are going to try and begin our routes tonight. Please have your trash out by 9:00 PM tonight, Sunday, January 31. Due to the winter weather warning for snow overnight, the drivers will be starting several hours earlier than usual. If your trash is not out by 9:00 PM and the truck goes through, we will not be able to make a return trip. They are going to try and get the routes completed. However, in the event the weather gets too bad, we will pull the drivers off the road, suspend service, and resume as soon as possible. Some customers are choosing not to put their toters out at all. If you choose to do this, we will certainly take all the extra trash the following week. However you will have to hold your recycling until the next recycling cycle 2 weeks later. We will continue to update our website and Facebook page as needed. Also any delays will be posted on WFMZ as well. We apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe!

Tuesday Residential Customers: Due to the ice storm warning, we will be delaying service by at least 8 hours. Normally the drivers begin at 12 AM, but for now are waiting until 8 AM. If we find that the roads are still too hazardous in the morning, there is a possibility that we won't operate at all tomorrow. If that becomes the case, then we will operate on a holiday schedule and everyone will be picked up a day later. We apologize for the inconvenience and certainly will post an update once we see how the storm plays out. Weather related information and updates will also be posted on our website as well as WFMZ. Stay safe!
Friday Residential Customers:
Due to the weather, our office was closed today. However, we were able to complete Thursday routes and it is our plan to begin Friday's routes by daybreak. Please have your containers out Friday, February 19 by 6 AM. They will be a few hours behind schedule and we ask for your patience and understanding as they navigate snow covered roads in order to complete routes and service customers the best they can. If something changes, updates will be announced on our website, Facebook, and WFMZ. We apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe!

If you choose to do this, we will certainly take all the extra trash the following week. However, you will have to hold your recycling until the next recycling cycle 2 weeks later. We will continue to update our website and Facebook page as needed. Also, any delays will be posted on WFMZ as well. We apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe!
