I have attached a copy of the public notice for this program, which covers the basic provisions of the program, and the eligibility criteria for the program. You are welcome to share this public notice with any individuals you feel will be interested.
Additionally, I wanted to take the opportunity to share a few more specific details about the program, based on common questions that came up during the previous year:
1. The application will consist of the applicant reviewing and agreeing to program terms, providing their information, and submitting a credit pre-approval letter. They may obtain this pre-approval letter from any mortgage lender authorized to do business in the State of Hawaii. Lenders do not have to apply to our program to be able to have clients participate.
2. We understand that some lenders use different language in their letters, and not all lenders use the "pre-approval" language. For this program, we want to see that applicants have taken the time to meet with a lender and have a reasonable understanding of what type of mortgage and loan amount they could qualify for, and that applicants are confident they are ready to move forward with trying to purchase a home at this time. We do not set requirements for what types of financial information the lender reviews, and trust that lenders will be conducting a good faith effort to provide an accurate pre-approval letter.
3. Clients do not need to be pre-approved for a specific amount. The amount of assistance a client may be eligible to receive is not impacted by the loan amount stated on the pre-approval letter.
4. If you know of someone who is already in a contract, they may still be eligible to apply. #Maui #FirstTimeOwner
