Capital Nursing and Rehab has sincerely missed not being able to have visitors and families come into their center to engage with their residents and staff. Since the start of COVID-19 staff have worked tirelessly to provide care for residents and continue daily to uplift them while they are missing their family members. One may say if you look past the rain, you will find a rainbow or if you look past the darkness of the night, you will find the stars. With hope does come life and that is exactly what has been brought upon Capital Nursing and Rehab. Capital is pleased and eager to share with our residents and families the newest team member to Capital who was born approximately 3 weeks ago in our aviary. On Wednesday, their baby finch made its way out of the nest and was so eager to greet all their visitors and residents soon in our front lobby!

Liberty Commons of Columbus County RN, Rebecca Nobles, shares her thoughts on taking the COVID-19 vaccine:
One of my jobs as a Staff Development Coordinator is to provide education to staff on multiple topics. One of these topics happens to be vaccinations. Instead of reading fact sheets from manufacturers or quoting statistics from the CDC, I would like to speak on a more personal level.
So, picture this, you're a resident in a long-term care facility. For 10 months you have no physical contact from your family, friends, or church family. You're aren't allowed to do your regular group activities unless you wear a mask and stay 6 feet away from the person next to you. You haven't seen a smile in what seems forever. You hear every day that someone on your hall has "tested positive" and will be moved to "the unit". Then your friend next door gets sick, they test positive for "the virus", they're moved to "the unit", then transferred to the hospital, intubated, and sadly pass away, alone. You can't attend their funeral because it's just too dangerous. You live in constant fear that you're next. When? How sick will I be? You're living in fear yet you haven't left your room.
I personally was responsible for asking some of the residents whether or not they would like to receive the COVID vaccine. When asked, they didn't want to hear statistics. They didn't care about side effects or long term effects. They weren't concerned with how quickly the vaccine was made available. They simply had one question, "How soon can I get it?"
You see, the COVID vaccine is their HOPE. Hope that they can see their families, hug their grandbabies, spend next Christmas at home, and play BINGO at the same table with their friends. Their HOPE to STOP THE SPREAD......and they're not even the ones spreading it. How selfless an act?
Please consider getting vaccinated. It may not save your life but it may save the lives of many who are too frail to survive COVID. I did. I did with absolutely no regret. I did to make sure my sweet, innocent residents are here next Christmas and can spend it with their family and friends.

Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center residents and staff were excited and thankful to receive their Covid-19 vaccine at last Thursday's clinic. A wonderful way to closeout 2020 and welcome 2021.
The Foley Center at Chestnut Ridge had a day of celebration and joy during their first Vaccination Clinic. Staff were given the opportunity to say "I'm being vaccinated for" and included such reasons as ‘protection of the elderly’, ‘family’, ‘our residents’, ‘coworkers’, ‘others’, and ‘all’. Administrator Matt Diggs said, "It is such a joy to work alongside so many selfless and caring individuals. These teammates have, and will continue, to fight the good fight to defend the health of our residents and community - and today was an incredible step in the direction of a much brighter tomorrow. In the eyes of our residents, you will see a reflection of that hope and joy. Fist bumps and laughter filled the halls as residents anticipated their opportunity for the vaccine with excitement. Many thanks to all who worked tirelessly to make this day such a success! Happy New Year indeed!"
After ensuring all Royal Park of Matthews residents and staff who wanted the vaccine had been taken care of, Paul Babinski, LHRS President, received his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Tuesday's Covid Vaccine Clinic.
