TIS TRUE, WE HAD NEVER BEEN TO THE
NATIONAL EXEMPLAR RESTAURANT!!
We are almost embarrassed to admit, we have both lived in the Cincinnati area for decades and have never been to the charming The National Exemplar in historic Mariemont, Cincinnati, Ohio. This past week we righted that wrong!!!
The restaurant, which opened in 1983, is tucked away inside the Best Western Premier Mariemont Inn. The Inn was constructed in the 1920s and has an English Tudor vibe.
The restaurant features two dining rooms - one is reminscent of an old English tavern and the other is a large room that is warmed by a roaring fire in the fireplace. The food is American cuisine. The dinner menu features entrees such as liver & onions, prime rib, pan seared salmon as well as burgers, a patty melt and French dip. (The are also open for breakfast and lunch).
We chose a chicken dish and the night's daily special. Both choices were perfect for a cold winter night. The Roasted Gerber Farms Chicken were chicken breasts served over butternut squash, brussel sprouts and melted leek risotto with grana padana (we had to google it!! It's an Italian cheese similar to parmesan reggiano!) This dish is the perfect winter comfort food! So much flavor in that risotto! The night's special was a Lasagna Dinner. It included bread and a small side salad. This was a great bolognase lasagna. I typically don't order it out, but this was a nice rich, meaty sauce and a large serving too!
Besides the Nightly Specials (see photo below for the specials), during Covid they are also offering a Sunday Supper Take and Bake
