About

Our mission is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. The BBB sees trust as a function of two primary factors, integrity and performance. Integrity includes respect, ethics and intent. Performance speaks to a business's track record of delivering results in accordance with BBB standards and, or addressing customer concerns in a timely, satisfactory manner. BBB ensures that high standards for trust are set and maintained. We exist so consumers and businesses alike have an unbiased source to guide them on matters of trust. We provide educational information and expert advice that is free of charge and easily accessible.

For this #TorchTuesday, we wanted to highlight one of our 2016 Torch Award recipients, Hetter Heating and Cooling for their commitment to Character! We think this quote from their application sums up why they were one of our winners that year; "My core belief is all people are good and should be treated as you would want to be treated. Gratitude is very important in running a business...this is communicated through my words and actions, those of my general manager and the feedback we receive from clients about our technicians and our office staff." Thanks for being a great example of an ethical business Hetter! And be sure to keep an eye on this page for an announcement about how we'll be celebrating our Torch Awards this year!
Has an RV or car listed on Craigslist ever caught your eye? Was it in great shape and cost little? Online car and RV sales are increasing as people shop from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many online platforms list cars, trucks, vans and RVs for very low prices, with sellers offering to make third-party delivery arrangements if the buyer pays via escrow. In reality, neither the automobile nor the escrow company exists -- leaving the buyer without their money or their vehicle. BBB has published a report on this recent surge in Online Vehicle Scams and offered tips on how to combat this scam. One of our tips? Never pay for a vehicle through Western Union, MoneyGram, with a gift card or a reloadable card. To close out this year's National Small Business Week, we want to highlight Cova Cowork, one of our 2020 Spark Award Recipients, and one of their great initiatives they've introduced during these turbulent times! Cova quickly realized that once businesses and offices started to open, parents would need childcare to help them find work/life balance. Cova knew they wanted to be part of the solution so they've introduced Cova Classroom! They're offering three options for working parents so parents can work and know their children are in good hands: Cova Classroom (an elementary school setting equipped for virtual learning and structured class time with supervised guidance and assistance), Cova Youth (for middle and high school students where they can utilize the coworking space on a daily or monthly basis as an add-on to their parent's monthly memberships) and Cova Childcare (supervised childcare for infants/toddlers). Social Media is one of the most valuable tools small businesses have at their disposal these days. They're able to post about new products, sales and interact with their customers, all with a few taps. It's a great tool to build brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. It's also the best way for small businesses to update their customers about changes they've made to their business model since COVID-19 hit. Wondering if you're using social media in the most effective way possible? Check out these five tips to see how social media can help your business: http://bit.ly/SmallBizSocialTips BBB.ORG BBB Business Tip: 5 easy ways to use social media to help your small business

October is CyberSecurity month and with that, we want to offer our second evergreen tip to avoid scams! Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in unsolicited emails. Links, if clicked, will download malware onto your computer, smart phone, tablet or whatever electronic device you’re using at the time allowing cyberthieves to steal your identity. Be cautious even with email that looks familiar; it could be fake. Instead, delete it if it looks unfamiliar, and block the sender. For more information on how to avoid scams, check out bbb.org #TopTenTips #AvoidScams #CyberSecurityMonth #BBB #StartWithTrust

As we move into the holiday season, we believe this sixth evergreen tip for how to avoid scams is important to keep top of mind. Never share personally identifiable information with someone who has contacted you unsolicited, whether it’s over the phone, by email, on social media, even at your front door. This includes banking and credit card information, your birthdate, and Social Security or insurance numbers. #BBB #StartWithTrust #Tips #Tipstoavoidscams
BBB has seen a rise in online scams since the coronavirus pandemic started and we think our fifth evergreen tip for avoiding scams is especially relevant. Use extreme caution when dealing with anyone you’ve met online. Scammers use dating websites, Craigslist, social media, and many other sites to reach potential targets. They can quickly feel like a friend or even a romantic partner, but that is part of the con for you to trust them. #AvoidScams #ScamTips #BBB #StartWithTrust

With the holidays coming up amidst a pandemic, more individuals will be shopping online and relying on customer reviews on whether to purchase an item from a certain shop. With more individuals relying on reviews, they'll take into consideration the positive AND negative ones! Negative reviews happen to the best of businesses. But more importantly than the review, is how a business responds to the review. BBB recommends responding promptly to negative reviews. Prospective customers consider the newest reviews to be the most relevant and accurate, and they could interpret a lack of response as a business' lack of interest in a customer’s concerns. Consistently monitor reviews on various websites, so you can quickly respond to negative comments. To read the full list of tips on how to handle negative reviews, check them out here: bit.ly/RespondingtoNegativeReviews #NegativeReviews #Howtorespondtonegativereviews #customerreview #customerreviewtips #BBB #StartWithTrust

It's February which means many individuals thoughts are turning to love. And sometimes, it seems you've met the perfect person and then they start asking you for money and you quickly realize, you've been scammed! This #WednesdayWarning we want to get the word out about romance scams. One way to avoid falling for a romance scam? Keep an eye on the language someone uses. If the person you are communicating with claims to be from your home town but has poor spelling or grammar, uses overly flowery language, or uses phrases that don’t make sense, that’s a red flag. For more tips on how to avoid romance scams, click HERE: http://bit.ly/romancescamtips #RomanceScams #Tips #BBB #StartWithTrust
This week is Identity Theft Awareness Week and tax season is upon us so we thought this #TuesdayTip was particularly relevant. During tax season, scammers will use Social Security Numbers of unsuspecting individuals and use them to file phony tax returns and steal refunds. Or, steal identities. One way to make sure this doesn't happen to you? Watch out for red flags. If a written notice from the IRS arrives in the mail about a duplicate return, respond promptly. Or, if an IRS notice arrives stating you received wages from somewhere you never worked, or receive other notices that don’t actually apply to you, contact the IRS office immediately. Another big red flag is if you receive a notice that “additional taxes are owed, the refund will be offset or a collection action is being taken against you for a year you did not file a tax return” (IRS). For more tips, click HERE: http://bit.ly/BBBTaxIDTips #IdentityTheftAwarenessWeek #TaxSeason #TaxTips #StartWithTrust #BBB
