We celebrated the first day of October with festive flower arranging! These centerpieces will go in our Bread Basket Dining Room. What beautiful creations!
Last week we celebrated Assisted Living week with a Tie-Dye Tuesday Activity for our BFMs! BFMs came to the Bistro throughout the day and made different Tie-Dye creations ranging from T-shirts to socks and even Masks!
Thank you to our friends at Denison for contributing this cuetivity for our Mary B’s residents! The “Stories on the Hill” club at Denison created videos reading books. One of Jan’s favorite things to do is read and also listen to someone read to her. We gathered other of our Mary B’s residents with similar interests to join in on the reading! What a great way to have involvement from the community even during COVID! Thank you!
Teresa, Helen and Marguerite really jumped into art and painting this month. It’s a great activity to exercise our creativity but also to have conversations with our friends while doing so!
We had a blast celebrating 50s Day at Bickford! From sing alongs with 1950s classics, to Sock Hop Fun and then ending with hit 50s TV shows and trivia we really enjoyed ourselves!

Jane was all smiles this afternoon after a visit with her daughter. Jane proudly showed her new mum and Fall planter that she was gifted from her daughter. Small but meaningful moments can be more impactful than we could ever imagine.
One of Bickford’s Theme Days this month was Family History Day which we celebrated on Wednesday. Our LEC, Kristen, had some great afternoon activities in Assisted Living. Some residents can trace their ancestors back to Italy, Poland, Germany and Ireland. We learned about the history of our last names and our hometowns. Kristen had printed out family crests for each resident! Johnnie has the most siblings -12 or 14, she lost count! Both Joe J. and Dorothy have grandkids and great grandkids by the dozens. History and storytelling filled the branch.
We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share Millie’s movie star look today! She takes the time each day to get gussied up for lunch and loves to surprise us. Each day, she emerges from her apartment with a new hair do and she loves to show it off..and we love to tell her how beautiful she is.
Keep it going, Millie! ❤️
We have been begging Willie for weeks to play the piano. He kept telling us he had forgotten but wished he could remember. Today he remembered! He surprised himself and was even able to play alongside some of our BFMs. We knew you had it in you, Willie! Great job!
We are having a friendly Bickford Scarecrow competition with our sister Bickford branches, here in the metro. Our LEC, Kristen, worked on building the scarecrow frame, picking out his clothes, and securing him to the tree! We had a lot of (messy) fun filling him up and adding the final details! Thank you Kristen, for creating an afternoon of laughter and creativity!
So, come on Worthington and Scioto - show us your Scarecrow!!!
Join us for our Third Annual Pet Parade! The parade route will circle around outside of Bickford and residents will cast their votes for the best costume! Please dress up your furry friend in a festive Halloween costume and come out for some Masked and social distanced fun! Please RSVP to Bickford at 614.235.3900. Our friends and neighbors at Pet People will be sponsoring some great prizes!
Beatrice was trying her best to cast her vote during the Restaurant Chili Cook-off. She was patiently waiting to see if James would let her try some of his. She was unsuccessful but we appreciate her willingness to join in the activity. We love you, Bea!
Our Annual Chili Cook-off was a little different this year! We asked some of our community partners to bring in restaurant style chili instead of the typical made in home recipes. Chili was brought from Bob Evans, Johnson’s, Panera, Wendy’s, Skyline and Rusty Bucket. Wendy’s was the winner but we loved the veggies in Panera’s chili.
Thank you to our sponsors from River Vista, Story Point, Summit Home Care, Fox Rehab, Heartland Hospice, and Vitas Hospice.
Some of our residents got crafty this afternoon with Kristen. Dorothy and Libby showed off their wine cork pumpkin creations they made! We painted, glued, constructed the pumpkins and then discussed where to put our new fall decorations!
There’s a lot of different pumpkin activities that you can do in Fall. You can carve pumpkins, pick pumpkins, eat pumpkins and this week we painted pumpkins! A fun and messy activity that we then used to decorate the branch with!
Thank you Sophia for another great painting activity. Joe, Libby and James got to work and created a Fall Truck painting. We enjoy the ability to get our creative juices flowing and the conversations that happen among friends.

Beatrice celebrated our Halloween fun wearing an adorable Bee costume. As cute as she looked, she was very self conscious about her outfit. Residents gave her love and praise as she passed by and helped boost her confidence throughout the day. Buzz Buzz Bea the Bee!
We popped by Diane’s apartment for some trick or treat service. She guessed our costume theme however she was stumped on who was behind the Bosley costume! Molly revealed herself and then Diane starting guessing the other participants. She instantly guessed Nick when the mysterious red Angel said “Hello!” Did the voice give it away? The outfit was spot on so it must have been the voice.
Some reverse trick or treating fun by Charlie’s Angels and Bosley leading the way! Each DFG had a bag of treats and there was one bag of tricks! The tricks were fake spiders, snakes and centipedes. Yikes!
Who wore it better? Bexley’s Directing Family Group (DFG) channeled the Charlie’s Angels team for our Halloween festivities this year! We thought that we had the perfect set up, 3 females and one male, to pull this off! However, Nick jumped at the chance to be an Angel and naturally, Molly, being our Executive Director, had to be Bosley! I think we all laughed the entire time reverse trick or treating to the residents!
Our Mary B’s LEC, Hannah, did a great job with the decorations and especially the snack table during the Halloween Party!
While some residents in Mary B’s wore their headbands, others donned a mask! We asked Mary Jo what she thought when we showed her, her picture. She replied “Well it looks like me!” Fun Halloween Happenings!
A fun, social distance group picture for our Pet Parade. Thank you to our neighbors at Pet People Bexley for your donation of prizes! And thank you to all of our participants and their owners for coming and bringing joy to our residents.
Friday the 30th we did a Pet Parade during our Happy Hour! We had resident’s family members, community relationships and also BFM’s participation in the parade with their pooch! Pets wore their best costume and were escorted by a BFM and judged by the residents. Our friends at Pet People Bexley donated some fantastic prizes! What a fun event!
Charles with his Angels! Even though in the show, Charlie has never appeared in any episode we found our resident, Charles, to snap a picture! Fun on Halloween!
What an honor! Bickford of Bexley is Number 1 in our Division in the Resident Happiness Survey! At Bickford, your happiness is our measure of success. We believe the path to happiness is found in meeting your loved one’s core needs. In order to understand whether or not we are achieving this objective, we rely on your consistent feedback through participation in happiness surveys. Your participation in the surveys provides us feedback to ensure our efforts are improving your happiness with Bickford.

Arletta and Martha spent some time together for a manicure. Having some pampering done can make for a great start of the day!
A Kristen and Johnnie duet. ❤️ Johnnie loves singing hymns and Kristen happily obliges at any given moment.
We chose to honor some of the wives of veterans in our ceremony today. These women reflected back on their husbands’ service times and the devotion they had to their spouse and their country.
Thank you to our Life Enrichment Coordinator, Kristen, for performing beautiful patriotic songs and coordinating this great Veteran’s Day Ceremony.
We had a beautiful Veteran’s Day Ceremony this morning filled with song, prayer, readings and fellowship. Bickford of Bexley had the great privilege of honoring our residents for their service while also acknowledging the spouses of veterans and their service to their home and families. Thank you to Heartland Hospice for your contribution to this ceremony.
Roots is what we call our daily meetings with BFMs. It’s a time to go over the updates, changes, activities, meals etc that are happening in the branch that day. We also use roots as an additional time to go over training or retraining regarding mask wearing, hand washing, PPE and other COVID policies. Our RNC, Liz, was demonstrating the proper ways to wear PPE at roots this week!
Stretch up high!! Daily exercise is so important but even more important during COVID.
You're never too old to get moving, get stronger and improve your health. Fitting exercise and physical activity into your day can enhance your life in so many ways. Regular physical activity can improve your balance and boost or maintain your strength and fitness.
Hannah, our Mary B’s LEC, led a Daily Chronicles discussion after bible study in the morning. This cuetivity appealed to a variety of residents and we were able have a small enough group for some great conversations. Smaller group settings allow for greater opportunities to engage with our residents on personal levels. It’s also an added benefit during COVID and practicing social distancing.
One of our crafts in November was to create a Thankful wreath! We worked together to construct this project and filled the leaves with things we are thankful for!
Wednesday, Kristen’s Canteen was a mobile ice cream truck. Kristen traveled around the branch scooping up smiles and ice cream! We enjoyed some Thanksgiving classics while we ate our ice cream.
Arletta and Martha spent some time together for a manicure. Having some pampering done can make for a great start of the day!
Dr. Vaughan and Natalie exercised together in the afternoon too. We love when residents and BFMs participate in cuetivities together! Not only are we having fun, but we’re building trust and comfort with each other and that will help build the relationship between resident and caregiver.
Mary B’s were moving and grooving in the afternoon. It feels so good to have our bodies active. It’s even more fun when you do that with friends!
Our director Molly came out to happy hour on Friday and played ball with everyone. We had fun knocking the ball around the branch and enjoying the happy hour treats!
Gobble gobble! Assisted living residents worked on some cute turkey paintings prepping for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. What are you thankful for?
Dorothy and one of our newest residents, Gay, got to working on some Gingerbread Houses this week! We had some fun constructing the houses and snacking on some decorations. What holiday traditions did you do with your family?
Dorothy and our LEC, Kristen, got to work on Christmas cards today. You can always count on Dorothy to do anything crafty. We loved making fun, custom creations to send to our friends and family.
Johnnie enjoyed her hot tea by the Christmas tree this afternoon. If you know Johnnie, you know that she loves Jesus, singing hymns, being warm and HOT tea! Snuggling up next to the tree in a cozy blanket and drinking her tea was the perfect combination today!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The beautiful snow fall got us into the decorating spirit. Residents and BFMs helped decorate the Christmas tree this afternoon. Do you prefer multi colored lights or warm white?
Bingo is one of the most important parts of our residents’ weekly routine! So we won’t let a pesky quarantine keep us down!! Kristen made sure that everybody had a shot at bingo by going to different quadrants of the branch! It’s not normal, but boy we had a good time! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!
Our branch support just sent us this photo to share with our families about the COVID-19 vaccine coming soon. We’re excited to have our residents in the first distribution for the vaccine so we can hopefully return to some sort of normalcy! We’re hopeful for what will come in the coming weeks!
Here’s a short clip of an exercise session today. Since we are quarantining in our apartments, Kristen brought the exercise to us! She went to each common area in the branch and led exercise class to the apartments that were adjacent to that room. Residents sat in the doorway of their apartments and got a great work out in!
Meet Maddie! Maddie is an RN at Bickford of Bexley. She has worked for the branch for over 4 years. She started as a caregiver, then LPN and she received her RN most recently. When she’s not at Bickford, she is studying to finish her BSN so she can continue to learn and add to her education. When asked why she works at Bickford, she says “Because they’re my family! These are all my grandmas and grandpas!” We HEART you too Maddie!
Look at these cute table decorations our assisted living residents created last week. There is so much fun to be had in decorating for Christmas. Making your own decorations just adds to that!
We have lights! Thank you to Colten Schooley for coming and decorating the outside of the branch with Christmas lights over the weekend. We love getting into the holiday spirit!
We received, read and hung Christmas cards from residents at our sister branch, Bickford of Scioto, Girl Scout Troop 2540, and preschoolers from Jeffrey Mansion Preschool! How sweet it is to receive thoughtful cards in the mail!
Kristen’s Monday Music is still going on despite Quarantine. We were able to sit socially distanced outside each apartment and listen to music in the adjacent living rooms. Kristen had multiple concerts throughout the afternoon to make sure every resident was serenaded. Christmas carols were the musical choice today!
LECs Hannah and Kristen are busy Christmas Elves today creating beautiful, personalized ornaments for each resident. We’re excited to see the end products!
Ohio is preparing to distribute safe, effective COVID-19 vaccines statewide to those who choose to be vaccinated. Bickford is anxiously awaiting our time during Phase 1A.
Our assistant director, Nick, is a man of many talents! After dinner we heard the piano being played and immediately went to check it out. Nick learned piano growing up and was recalling some of his favorites. We will need him to brush up on some holiday classics for a concert soon!
Santa’s Elves are decking the halls in their festive attire and passing out a wonderful afternoon treat! Hot chocolate and puppy chow stops are ready to drop! We of course had water and fruit as options as well but it’s always good to indulge, especially around the holidays!
We have our vaccine clinic dates from Walgreens! We’re making our lists and checking it twice! We’re gonna find out who’s ready to vaccinate and kick COVID to the curb! If you’re wanting to move in and take advantage of Phase 1A of the COVID-19 vaccine, please give us a call ASAP at 614.235.3900.

Our first on-site COVID-9 vaccine clinic is Wednesday! Our current residents and BFMs (Bickford Family Members/Staff) are eagerly awaiting our shot at the shot! We have two more clinics coming in January and February. If you’re wanting your loved one to take advantage of Phase 1A, contact us at 614.235.3900. We’d love to talk about moving your loved one into the branch and becoming a resident!
Martha had front row seats to her very own Christmas carol. One of our favorite parts of caroling around the branch was when the residents joined in with song. Music is such a wonderful way to connect with each other.
Walking in a Winter Wonderland was a fitting song to sing because of the beautiful snowfall we had this Christmas.
We sang “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah” on our caroling route this week. We wanted to serenade our Jewish residents as well. Diane gave us two thumbs up! Here is a short snippet!
Here’s some fun action shots of our door to door Christmas caroling. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
Some our residents posed with their Bickford ornaments. There’s something sentimental about the memories and reasons behind an ornament. We love to hear the stories about ornaments that were important to our throughout the years. Do you have an ornament that you HAVE to put up on your tree every year?
It’s Vaccination Day!!

Lyrics are inspired by “For the first time in forever” from Disney’s Frozen!
Lyrics:
It’s Vaccination Day!
The window is open, so's that door
I didn't know they did that anymore
Who knew we could save so many lives?
For months I've roamed these empty halls
Why are there so many zoom calls
Finally, there’s vaccines in this place!
There'll be actual, real, live people
It'll be totally strange
But wow, am I so ready for this change!
'Cause for the first time in forever
There'll be music, there'll be light
For the first time in forever,
I’ll be holding family tight.
Don't know if I'm dreaming, so pinch me
Cause the vaccine’s here today!
'Cause for the first time in forever
We’ll celebrate this day!
Monroe was showing off his impressive skills at lawn darts. He tossed two in a row and landed both on the target!
Mary B’s played lawn darts this week. Just about all of the residents played in different small groups. I think it’s a new favorite!
BFMs Nicole and Courtney celebrated New Year’s Day with our residents. Who wouldn’t love a wake up call or “Hello” from these wonderful women?!
Hannah and Kristen’s New Year’s Celebration Refreshment Cart rolled through the branch today! Hannah’s magical cranberry orange apple cider was on the menu today. Cheers to the New Year!
Some of our residents bringing in the New Year in style! Although 2020 was challenging, we’re smiling and welcoming 2021 with joy!

Monroe and Martha were working their cores during morning exercise. Regular exercise can improve your strength and improve your balance. It gives you more energy. It can also improve your mood and fight off depression!
Marilyn started off this morning by reading her bible aloud. Marilyn’s faith is extremely important to her and she loves to share the gospel whenever she can. Thank you for shining your light, Marilyn.
Hannah and Marilyn sat together and discussed the Daily Chronicle over a Ginger Ale. The Daily Chronicle is full of information on daily facts, quotes, famous birthdays and more! It’s a perfect publication for a trivia lover, avid reader or both.
BFM Elena and resident Ron smiled for a photo op together! We love seeing residents and BFMs develop a relationship of trust, friendship and care. Seeing smiles from someone who loves and cares for you is a wonderful feeling. When residents give us a smile, it’s reassuring to us to know we’re creating that family dynamic we strive so hard for. We’re thankful for the ways our eyes express that same emotion even when our masks cover the rest of our faces!

What do we do in the first morning out of quarantine? We get busy looking our best! Shirley prides herself in applying her make up just perfectly before each meal and activity. She has had quite a break from that but she was eager to get back to it this morning.
You look beautiful, Shirley!
Well.... better late than never!!!! We came out of our quarantine today and what an amazing day it was!! The residents were up and in their seats for breakfast by 7:30 am. It was wonderful to hear all of the chatting and pleasant exchanges between residents!
So then what did we do?? We celebrated Christmas and New Years Day all in one afternoon and we had a great time!

Please watch how our dedicated caregivers (BFMs) devote their love and care to our residents! We are so happy to be able to receive the vaccine and we hope for a brighter future to come ASAP!!!

Bickford of Bexley- Rise Up
BFM Ivy worked with Joyce and Jan today during a sensory cuetivity. They each had their own fluffy play dough to touch and feel and create with. Such focus and engagement came from this small exercise.
Bob loves to get the paper. He likes the inserts for the ads and he helps us make our grocery lists. This is a great cuetivity that we do with our Mary B’s residents who thrive on the tasks that were important to them in their lives.

Handsome Dr. Vaughan posing in front of our Luau Day backdrop. It was so refreshing to think of warm weather, sandy beaches and clear water despite being in Ohio in January. Yes, we’re thankful to experience all the seasons in Ohio but it’s nice to reflect on tropical locations too!
Hannah and Irene both posed for a quick selfie on Luau Day while donning their leis and flowers. Lei are constructed of flowers, leaves, sea shells, seeds, nuts, feathers or even bones of various animals. A lei is a common symbol of love, friendship, celebration, honor or greeting. The meaning behind a lei is the same set of values we try to have at Bickford! How fitting!
How beautiful do Joyce and Elena look on Luau Day!? When helping Joyce choose what to wear, what a fun surprise it was to find an almost matching outfit for what Elena had wore into branch this morning! Joyce’s hair was even styled with the same part down the middle and flower in her hair. Beautiful!
BFM and Black Pearl Elena did a wonderful Flower Planting Cuetivity in Mary B’s today. Linda and Martha were both so attentive and focused as the poured the correct amount of water into their flower pots. We discussed gardening and plant care. We discussed how much water and sunshine the flowers would need to bloom. We can’t wait to watch these flowers grow!
Here at Bickford, we believe in family. So, when the cold weather hits, and visits are limited for families, we step in to the family role and spend whatever time is needed to be there for our residents.
Debra, our concierge, took the time to catch up with Robert to answer his questions, and talk about his family and his career.
Thank you, Debra, for you love and dedication to our residents, and their families. #WhateverItTakes❤️

Wow! Are we thankful for our resident, Monroe! Monroe helped us with our chores today at the branch. When you’re living in a family, home-like atmosphere, chores are a part of the daily routine! Monroe gathered the clothing, loaded it in the cart and took it to the laundry room. He made sure to see it through to the end and even helped fold. Thank you, Monroe!
Today we celebrated and showered our amazing Physical Therapist, Sarah, and her soon to be baby boy! Sarah works for Fox Rehab which is a valuable service offered in our branch. Sarah and the other therapists are in our branch nearly everyday, including weekends, seeing residents. They help make our residents stronger and more independent. We will sure miss Sarah when she takes time off to spend time with her growing family but can’t wait to see new baby pictures when she comes back home to Bickford! Congrats to Sarah and her family! We love you!
BFM Emma and Resident Helen doing puzzles that help improve function of the frontal lobes. Helen loves doing things to improve her memory! You can see the focus and concentration as they work the puzzle together!
We had so much fun on Luau Day we’d thought we’d take a few day to post all of the fun to make it last longer! Martha, Linda, and Betty all enjoyed the tropical mocktails and glamour shots for our Pearl’s Passions Theme Day!
James and Gay both enjoyed a guided painted course offered by one of our fabulous volunteers, Sophia. Although she hasn’t been able to come into the branch, she makes sure that we’re set up for success to do these canvas paintings. Gay painted her canvas for her granddaughter, Vivian!

Happy Birthday Terry! Kristen and Terry shared a sweet moment at lunch today after the birthday cake was brought out for the birthday girl!
Marilyn got to take a couple turns at bowling today too! While our Fox Rehab PT, Sarah, is on maternity leave, we get to have Physical Therapist, Molly, fill in for her! One of the things we love about Fox is how they make therapy sessions fun! When Molly saw the fun we were having our in dining room, she immediately adjusted her session to have Marilyn participate. Now we just need to not get our Molly’s mixed up: Executive Director, Molly and Physical Therapist, Molly,
We had a ball in Mary B’s this morning! Literally! We had a great time with a bowling tournament amongst residents and BFMs. Betty, Monroe and Martha all kept their eyes on the pins as they aimed and released! We definitely will be doing this again soon!
Resident Ron was more than happy to help us clean up the dining tables after lunch today. After we cleared the dishes, he wiped down the tables so we could do the sanitizing next! We’re so appreciative when our residents help in our family chores. Homes work best when everyone in the family chips in! :)
BFM, Davida, and resident, Marilyn, worked on a list earlier today. Davida and Marilyn sat down and talked one on one about the necessary items that should go on the list. Everyday tasks can provide stimulation throughout the day. Lists help us feel productive as we organize our thoughts and even more when we get to cross the things off!

Kristen had her turn with this boomerang video. We love her energy that she brings to our Life Enrichment Programming!
Resident James is showing us the correct form with this fun boomerang video!
Resident, Joe, was ready for the Super Bowl Party that our LEC Kristen had set up. We did some Football Trivia and had tailgate food all before kick off. Which team are you rooting for!?
Tom gets to talk to his sons on the west coast every Thursday morning! They wake up at 6:30am their time to see their dad enjoy his morning cup of coffee! Technology has blessed us in such wonderful ways. It has helped connect us to our friends and family.
A great moment between resident, Ron, and nurse Anchidia! Ron was reading outside in the living room and Anchidia stopped to say “Hi.” Ron then began reading the article aloud to Anchidia! We love sharing interests between residents and BFMs!
It’s the Final Countdown! Bye bye COVID!
We were fortunate to have three clinics scheduled with Walgreens and today is our last one! We are so thankful for the COVID Vaccine and are excited to see our world return to some more normalcy as the vaccine is distributed throughout Ohio. We know that it will be a process to get there, but this is a step in the right direction!
Please enjoy our final installment of our Vaccination Day video series!
Life Enrichment Coordinator, Kristen, worked on assembling our Valentine’s gifts for each resident. We had so many wonderful people and organizations dropping of sweets, Valentine’s Day Cards and goodies for our residents. Thank you to Mrs. Baugh’s class at Montrose, Cassingham students, Columbus School for Girls, Girl Scouts and all the other thoughtful people who wanted to send love to Bickford. Xoxo!
Chocolate covered everything! Assisted Living residents did a fun culinary activity on Thursday this week in preparation for Valentine’s Day. What is your favorite food to dip in chocolate!?
We were gifted by the Balloniacs this week! Millie gave this fun Balloon creation a hug and laugh as she took in the intricate assembly of the Balloon man. Thanks for dropping off some sunshine to our residents!
Helen curled up on the couch with her newspaper and a beautiful quilt. At Bickford, we truly want the branch to be our residents’ home. We encourage putting your feet up on the furniture and catching a cat nap on your favorite chair in the living room. The small comforts of home mean so much!
What a winter wonderland we’ve had at Bickford this week! We’ve stayed warm and cozy inside the branch while we’ve watched the snow fall outside. One of our residents was quoted saying that we live in a magical snowy mansion. We have to agree!

Today our friends at Home Care Concierge surprised a few of our residents for National Random Acts of Kindness Day! Community Liaison, Lindsay, dropped off some Diet Coke for Joe and Libby. A cold drink even on cold days really hits the spot! Thank you to Lindsay and her team!
Today we also celebrated Molly’s birthday! Molly is our Executive Director at Bickford of Bexley and has been with Bickford for almost 3 years! She started as a Life Enrichment Coordinator, then Assistant Director and has been our ED for over a year! If you have the opportunity to talk with her about her “why,” you’ll see why she is so passionate about older adults and senior living. Her love and devotion to our residents is evident in everything she does.
Joe wanted to surprise her for her birthday and got her flowers. How thoughtful is he!?
BFMs Nicole and Nick got in on the Mardi Gras fun and dressed up in the traditional purple, green and gold colors! Elaborate costumes and crazy outfits are the norm for anyone wanting to go all out for the celebration. Nicole is from New Orleans and gave us an insider’s perspective on this holiday!
Alice worked on some yummy Mardi Gras treats! Chocolate and pretzels hit the sweet and salty craving perfectly. Topped with M&M’s, you can’t go wrong! Thanks to all of our residents for helping make Fat Tuesday great!
Happy Fat Tuesday! Our LEC, Kristen, had a great spread to celebrate the beginning of Mardi Gras! Fat Tuesday refers to the last day of eating richer foods before the leaner days of Lent begin. All afternoon we celebrated by making Mardi Gras treats, having a Mardi Gras party and then finishing the day with our beloved Tuesday tradition of Bingo before dinner!
We LOVE this video of BFM Arletta dancing with Larry. Assisted living/Memory Care is so much more than just getting your meals prepared and medications on time.
Living at Bickford means finding small but unforgettable moments that make the difference in someone’s experience at our branch. May we have this dance?

Today, February 23rd, Mr. Joseph E. Jeanette turned 100 years old! He was born in 1921 in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1921, the President of the United States was Woodrow Wilson; it had only been 3 years since the end of World War I; and Babe Ruth was at the height of his career.
As a service member in the United States Navy during World War II, Joseph served honorably and received a Purple Heart Medal. It is with great respect and admiration that we honor Mr. Jeanette on his 100th birthday, and wish him many more healthy years to come.
Happy “Joseph E. Jeanette Day”! 🎉 #LifeinBex
The 100th Birthday Party table spread of drinks, cake and 5 boxes of Donna’s Donuts that were brought by Joe’s daughter. Joe cheerfully shared his treats with the other residents and BFMs as we celebrated 100 years of Joe. Joe continuously has a hug or kind words to anyone who he meets.
Yum! Thank you to Lindsay with Home Care Concierge for your donation of the Birthday Cake for Joe’s 100th Birthday celebration. The cake was delicious and the perfect addition to the party. We put a candle on a donut and Joe blew his candles out that way to be COVID friendly. ;)
Joe waved and posed for his photo op under in his balloon arch. Our friends at Fox Rehab donated this balloon arch for his party. When their physical therapist ordered the balloon arch kit, we were all unaware of the assembly required. Teamwork and an electric balloon pump made this all possible! Thank you to Ron with Fox Rehab and Sarah with Summit Home Care for your dedication to this balloon masterpiece.

Friday during Happy Hour we celebrated two special guys! First we celebrated our resident Robert’s birthday!
Then we celebrated our AD Nick’s last day! It was with mixed feelings that we wished him well and said our “See you laters.” Nick will be joining his friend in a manufacturing company as his next adventure. We’re glad our paths crossed and you were apart of our journey. Don’t be a stranger!
Assisted Living worked on Easterbread houses today! We constructed the yummy houses with candy. Although cute, these are not as structurally sound as we had hoped. We discussed using glue but then decided against it because we’d rather eat them as they crumbled! Fun project regardless!
Martha was up and moving and grooving with Fox! We love to see residents improve their strength and balance with Fox Rehab. As we age our health has set backs, and that’s when Bickford has Fox!
Beatrice has such a tough job. She works a 40+ hour week, is on her feet the majority of the day patrolling the branch, and helps clean up after meals. She is committed to the cause. We caught her sunbathing on one of her well-deserved breaks this morning.
March is National Kidney Month! Bickford of Bexley is partnering with Pickerington Care and Rehabilitation to help spread awareness and give helpful tips every Tuesday! Check out today’s tip!
Johnnie smiled next to her cake yesterday brought in by her niece Joyce. It was a great birthday party to share sweets with the rest of our residents and BFMs.
Martha and Hannah worked on cute St. Patrick’s Day Decorations this morning! Martha made one for her apartment door and another to give to her son. It was fun to customize the eyes, mouth and facial features on the personified shamrocks.
A small clip of Johnnie’s drive by Birthday parade! Happy 100th Birthday!
BFMs Jayde, Camye and Destinee all came out to support Johnnie for her birthday parade! Their cameras were ready to catch the event and they joined everyone with joyful cheers!
Bickford Senior Living is proud to be COVID-19 Free across all 62 branches! What a year it’s been but we are happy to report that as of March 4th 2021 we have no active resident COVID cases!
We will continue to take proper precautions to combat this virus but today we celebrate! Thank you to all of our residents, BFMs, families and the communities in which our branches reside for all of the love, patience and support. We are stronger together, no matter the distance. We’re sending our love to everyone who watches this video! Thanks for sharing!

Assistant Director, Kristen, and Community Relations Director, Kayty, picked up our newest resident, Barb, on this beautiful Saturday! The sun was shining, so naturally we all donned pink heart sunglasses on our trip home. Welcome to Bickford, Barb!
One of our LPNs, Lisa, is in nursing school to get her RN. She has a big test coming up so her Bickford family at Bexley wrote notes of encouragement and snapped this picture to send to her on one of her days she was spending studying! Of course our ED, Molly, had to put a funny sign up in the back for some comic relief. Lisa, Bexley believes in you! We love you!
Music Monday this week was a great activity with a special guest. We had a new performer join us on Zoom. Von Lewis is a professional actor/singer who played the role of Bobby Rydell in Green Book, winner of the 91st Academy Award for Best Picture. Monday he did a concert of Rat Pack hits. Fun fact: He used to perform with Kristen at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. Thanks for zooming into Bickford of Bexley!
Helen loved zooming her nephew Michael earlier this week. Michael lives states away so we’re thankful to have technology to keep us connected. Even if we weren’t in a pandemic, connecting with family in other states can be challenging. Th availability of technology that we have today is such a blessing!
Our walking club was at it again this morning. Bexley is the perfect community to live in. We’re within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and conveniences like the library and pharmacy. The sidewalks help us navigate to everywhere we want to go! Onward!

We updated and refreshed our Bistro this week too! We added lots of green touches with plants and decor. The colors really brightened up this space. We’re optimistic and looking forward to utilizing this space more in the coming weeks!
Here’s a wonderful update for those who saw our post last weekend about our sweet nurse Lisa studying for her big test..... SHE PASSED! Lisa officially passed her last class of nursing school and is done! Lisa just has to sit for her boards and she will officially be an RN. We’ve been so lucky to have Lisa love on our residents as an LPN and we are so excited for her to have advanced her education and experience. Congratulations Lisa! We knew you could do it!
We were restocking the snack bar in the Bistro today and snapped a picture of how great all the snacks looked lined up! Although we offer three delicious meals from our Bread Basket daily, it’s nice to be able to step into the Bistro and grab a little something. The popcorn machine is a resident favorite as well! Who doesn’t love fresh popped popcorn?!
Now that’s a pair! Linda and Larry love getting outside for walks or enjoying the sunshine. Although we have a great front porch that wraps around the branch, they asked Hannah to move their rocking chairs closer to the front of Main Street to be near the action! Living in Bexley, we are close to all major conveniences but we also live in a great walking community. It was nice to be closer to the sidewalks to stay connected to the hustle and bustle!
Our volunteer Genevieve did a St. Patrick’s Day themed reading for the residents and they LOVED it! She is sending it out and leading it but it’s through Stories on a Hill. A reading group at her school! Thanks Genevieve for zooming in with us and sharing a great story!

James used to box, do karate, and wrestle, so Sophia made sure to include some boxing in our exercise this morning! Jab cross, hook, and uppercuts to start the day off right!
Today we did a marketing in service during Roots! CRD, Kayty, led the inservice where she discussed the way that all BFMs are marketers! We talked about how to offer great customer service to both existing residents and new families. It doesn’t take much to just be kind and extend love. That’s a lot what senior living is about! We are always learning and growing to be better.
Sophia, Alice and Barb all worked on art this afternoon in the sunshine coming in from the dining room. Great conversation and relaxation was had. It’s nice to slow down and unwind with art every now and then!
Bickford has a great front porch that is perfect for socializing. We are able to watch the happenings around Bexley while being in the comfort of our branch. After our walk, we brought out the snacks and conversation and relaxed on the porch until lunch. We’re looking forward to more Spring days!
