About

There is no higher calling,
no greater purpose than that of a caregiver.
Somehow, we’ve come to believe that caregiving
is just for some of us and not all of us.
Yet at our core, we are all made to love, to connect,
to extend ourselves in service of others.
The question is ... do we have the will to love, to do what it takes,
to risk ourselves in caring, even when the burden is great?
In times of happiness, in times of sadness -
we are that caregiver.
WHATEVER IT TAKES

On September 23rd we had our 50's Day the turnout was awesome. The Quad City Cruisers were here again with Ron Lubber our residents had a blast. This such a important theme day to us, because a lot of residents relate to the 50's and love the music. Thank to all the staff and entertainers for using safe practices with our residents and all their efforts to make this a great success.
Yesterday our residents received a tasty treat of pies from our local Village Inn. They had the choice of French Silk, Oreo or Banana cream. It definitely put smiles on their faces. Something as little as a piece of pie can make someone smile, especially a Village Inn pie.
Yesterday our cook Dani took our residents for a walk and they got a pleasant surprise lots of bell peppers were ready to be picked. Our residents feel very accomplished when they are able to help out in any way they can. The produce is collected and given to the kitchen and they use in our meals. Our KM Dani was pretty happy she didn't order any bell peppers. Sometimes the small things in life are the greatest.
Here at our Moline Bickford, anyone that comes to see us in the summer knows we plant sunflowers every year and they thrive more than anything we plant. We are always amazed at the heights we see every year. We also love what we believe they stand for. Sunflowers are consider a positive flower, they bow their heads on a sunless day and look up when the sun is shining. Its as if they deny the gloom and celebrate the sun. So this year when we went our to our garden and seen this amazing sunflower head, we were flabbergasted at what we seen. If you look closely, it presents itself like its wearing a mask. In this world today, its good to find some humor in little things of our everyday lives. Kudos to our sunflowers for setting a good example to everyone!
It's halfway through July and the heat wave has officially arrived. Please remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and be cautious wearing your masks outside in the high temperatures. We cannot wait to see all our Bickford family and friends as our guidelines change. Take care and see you soon!
What do you do when a family calls needing immediate placement? What else? Put it into high gear, send the nurse to assess and start moving furniture! This is one of the many things we as caregivers do at Bickford. If someone you love needs immediate placement, even for the short term, give Bickford a call! One of our Directing Family Group members will be happy to assist you and discuss Retreat Stay availability. #whateverittakes #retreatsuites
It's that time of year again!! Make sure you are protecting yourself and your loved ones by getting your flu vaccination, continuing with hand hygiene practices and rest at home if you are feeling unwell. Stay warm and we look forward to seeing you soon!
On Wednesday we had our first painting session, we told our residents to paint a tree and we seen the most wonderfully different perspectives on what they saw. They had a wonderful time creating their masterpieces for all to see. As you can tell we have a big Green Bay Packers fan. This is going to be a big hit with our residents for one of our winter activity. We will hold sessions every other Wednesday and may hold it every Wednesday if we get more residents interest. We have a lot of talent in the midst of our Moline Bickford.
Here at our Moline Bickford our residents cherish their musical entertainment. With our safety policies in place we take our residents outside and our entertains play for them. With cooler weather coming at the end of the week our entertainers agreed to reschedule for the warmer days we have left. Big thanks to Ron Lubber and John Fliss for flexing their schedules for us.
Happy Friday to All As our weather changes so does our activities. This year we have added 2 new ones so far. We have our painting class on Wednesday and we now have Big Board Friday. Big Board Friday consists of a different game every week. Such as crossword puzzle, word search, hang man and others. What is so unique about these are all of ours is blown up to a large puzzle to display. This way all of our residents can partner up and do the same puzzle together. Watch for our oncoming pictures of the fun to be had by all.
Share and share alike! As a division, we learn to work closely together, and share almost everything - from ideas to furniture, and now a van! When Burlington acquired their new bus this summer, they wanted to share some love and offered their mini van to Macomb! So in true iWILD fashion, Beth and Michelle coordinated their day and delivered the van to a surprised group of deserving residents and caregivers! Enjoy your new van, may you put many miles of smiles on it!

Here at our Moline Bickford our painting sessions are going very will. The residents are so creative and the talent is amazing. Some of our residents, when asked if they want to paint, told us no that they weren't talented enough, that gave me more incentive to get them to our session so they could test their skills. They all were pleasantly surprised to find our they could do it. They are so proud of their accomplishments.
Here at our Moline Bickford we had our Halloween party for our residents. We had spooky punch, jack-o-lantern burgers and some tasty sides. This year we couldn't have our community children in for trick or treat, so we gave all our residents the treats. Our residents love sweets and they were definitely excited about their bags. In this time of Covid, we continually strive to keep our residents active and happy.
Today our Moline Bickford residents had a mock vote. We have had a lot of productive debates and all stayed calm and stated their reasons and everyone listened to everyone's side. I am very proud of our residents and how informed they made themselves and we feel everyone's opinions matter. Good Luck to both candidates on their run for the presidency.
On Thursday our cooking club decided to make some spooky food for our residents at lunch time, they made mummy dogs and we added some comfort food, chili grape eyeballs, french fries and some yummy corn bread. They had a wonderful time cooking and makes them proud they were able to share their ideas with the rest of the residents. Such great ideas for Halloween this year.
Yesterday was National Donut Day here at our Moline Bickford. Our residents chose from lots of different donuts to sample, from glazed to Bavarian cream. Thanks to Dunkin Donuts. We also started our Color Street Nails, these nails are so much easier and cleaner to use with our residents. All the ladies felt so beautiful when they were done. These nails last 2 weeks and they don't chip or wear off fast. Everyone was happy and full. These are the days that make life great with the smiles and the camaraderie between residents and staff. We would like to give a big thank you to Jordana Pershy of Color Street Nails for helping us make this happen.
Its beginning to look alot like Christmas at our Moline Bickford. Our residents are excited and bringing out the Christmas spirit. Their favorite is of course the Christmas Tree. We will have a Trim the Tree night at our branch and they will all help decorate the tree have some hot cocoa and listen to The Night Before Christmas, our yearly tradition.
Here at our Moline Bickford we decided to do a Christimas shoot with our residents as a present for their loved ones. They turned our so beautiful and they had alot of fun doing it. It also is a lasting memory for their families. Happy Holidays from your Moline Bickford Family.
I always chuckle when I see a new resident move in that has a famous name. Over the years, we have had a Howard Johnson, a Patsy Cline, a Jesse James, a Bob Dylan and many more. I always wonder how their famous name affected them, and if they enjoyed it or if it ever became annoying. Regardless of these names, or any other names that come through our doors, know that we treat everyone like a celebrity. All of our residents have movie star status, and I think they are all deserving of their name in lights.
Happy New Year! Bickford takes high priority in protecting our residents, we only have three more days until we get the Covid vaccine. We are very excited to make this happen. The residents are ready to be with their loved ones.
Here at our Moline Bickford we are proud to announce we rolled out our vaccination clinic. Our residents were troopers in receiving their vaccines. It eases all our minds to know our Bickford family is protected against Covid. Our hopes and prayers are to see the families back together again and life becomes a everyday norm that we all are working for. Vaccinate when you are able to and lets put a end to this horrible virus.

Here at our Moline Bickford we had our Luau on Wednesday, our residents were dressed to the top with their grass skirts, hawaiian lias and hats to set off our day. They were treated with some NA mango daiquiris and we had a hula contest our resident Nancy Sweet showed off her talents and blew us away with her skills. Our residents love a little healthy competition between each other. Big thanks to our caregivers for teaming up and making this a special day.
We Can Do It! Rosie the Riveter was first in line today for the vaccine at Bickford of Burlington! I rolled up my sleeve to protect those that I love, but also because I am ready for some normalcy to return. We ALL want our loved ones to be safe and healthy, and it's not selfish to want travel, concerts and gatherings back again. Vaccine clinics are taking place throughout Bickford now, so check us out, we would love to make you a part of our family. Beth Fleming
Here at our Moline Bickford we started our Drum Circle, this is the new rave for senior livings. This activity is wonderful for hand-eye coordination and great physical work out. Our residents had a fantastic time drumming away to some pop music they probably have never heard before. I was so impressed with their rhythm and endurance. They drummed for a solid 45 minutes, and was wonderful at it.
Congratulations to Bickford of Macomb! They made the top 10 in resident happiness! This is awesome! You’re awesome! Way to go! - Andy Eby, Owner/Caregiver of Bickford Senior Living
Today at our Moline Bickford we had our second drum club and our attendance went to 4 to 10, its definitely a hit with our residents. We did another 45 minutes again. This LEC has to admit my arms are a little sore this time around. This is a wonderful exercise and brings so much happiness. Keep watching for videos and updates on our exciting new activity.
"Do you want to build a snowman?" Our residents were wanting to build a snowman, but didn't want to go out in the cold so we brought the snow to them. We found that they are very talented and used a lot of imagination in this venture. We had a bunny rabbit, a ET and other different snowmen. Could you imagine what they could do if they were outside? Great job to all our residents!
Today is National Banana Cream Pie Day, so we treated our residents with Village Inn pies. Here at our Moline Bickford we celebrate at least 2 national days a week. The residents love them and makes for some fantastic fun!!

One of our newest activities is snowball smacking. This includes balloons and fly swatters, the object of the game is to swat the balloons with the fly swatter to the opposite end of the table without smacking them off the table. This is harder than it looks, the balloon start to gain static cling and stick to the table and them slide to the floor. But our residents did a great job keeping them on the table.
Here at our Moline Bickford we have started thirsty Thursdays. We fill our cart with drinks and snacks. They enjoy listening to music, creating art or just have a conversation between friends. This is already a hit.
