Happy World Smile Day! We live to see the smiles on our residents faces everyday! This morning we had Coffee and News to make us "Smile" and we played The Ball Toss Game to all of our favorite songs that make us "Smile!" In the afternoon we played "Smile!" Bingo and everyone had a great time and a lot of laughs! Happy Friday!
Happy International Day of Older Persons! On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons! The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991. The celebration of International Day of Older Persons is done to create awareness and empathy regarding the well being of the elderly. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society. At Bickford of Rocky River, we appreciate and celebrate our "Older Persons" every single day of the year!
Balloon Tennis Game gives us all sorts of opportunities to exercise our gross motor skills as we jump, leap, stretch, balance and lunge to hit the flying balloons! We also like to exercise our vocal chords too, adding in grunts and groans to match Federer’s and Murray’s on the tennis court! Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Giggles and Games! Today we laughed and played Target Bean Bag Toss Game! Everyone had a great time, but Jana and Dolores came out the BIG WINNERS! Yay!
Monday Arts and Crafts! The best kind of crafts are EDIBLE CRAFTS!!! Today we made cute little Halloween Themed BATS using Oreos, Mini Peanut Butter Cups and Candy eyes! We were all "Batty" for this adorably, sweet, craft!

Pat calls him "RALPHIE" because she has had all female dogs in the past and can't convince her mind that Ralph is a boy cat! She says it used to drive her husband crazy that she called the cat a "her" and renamed it "RALPHIE"! Welcome to the family, Pat and her cat!

Beauty Salon Day! Today I had the pleasure of getting to know Mary Jane, one of our newest family members, while I trimmed and styled her hair! Mary Jane is a "fiery Irish lass" with the gorgeous red hair and strength to prove it! She boasts that she was a strong single mother of four children and she raised those kids right, all on her own! Mary Jane said that her visit to Beauty Parlor today made her like a new woman and she was so grateful to have her curls back! Welcome home, Mary Jane.

Let the HALLOWEEN WEEK games and festivities begin! This morning we played a hilariously spooky game of Witch Hat Ring Toss! We listened to such Halloween music classics as “Thriller” and “Purple People Eater” while we played the game! Cindy was our big winner with 120 points! Go Cindi!
Saturday Morning Folding Social in Mary B’s! Having our Mary B’s friends help fold baby clothes and towels allows them to feel useful and when they work socially with each other, they seem to feel even more useful and happy!

We are so excited about all of our wonderful news friends that have moved in recently to join our existing amazing residents in the community! Today one of our newest residents , Susan, came to the Beauty Parlor and told me she was ready for a change. She wanted to be “spruced up” and have a new look to go with her new living accommodations. After a little color and style, Susan was so excited to see her new look and she exclaimed as she looked in the mirror ,”Oh my goodness! I love it! I look 30 years younger!!” Now Susan is ready to go dancing and have some fun!

HAPPY VETERANS DAY! We are sad that we cannot have a bigger celebration this year to honor our Veterans! Instead, we made each one of our Veterans a special Veterans Certificate of Appreciation, thanking them for their service and dedication to our country! God Bless Our Veterans and God Bless America!
Nuts About Peanut Butter Day!! This morning we discussed “10 Unusual Uses for Peanut Butter” during Coffee & News. This afternoon, for Craft Corner, we made Peanut Butter Cutout Bird Feeders to put out in the courtyard! We look forward to seeing all the pretty birds landing to enjoy our tasty, homemade, treats!
Today we celebrated the birthday of our Life Enrichment Coordinator,Erin! The residents surprised her with beautiful cupcakes, birthday cards and they gathered in the dining room (socially distanced of course) to sing!
TGIF! Somehow, after 1950s Music Bingo ended at Happy Hour, the party evolved into a dance party surrounding Russell by the ladies! What a blast! They were clapping, dancing, and laughing to “Macho Man”, “The Hustle”, and “You Should Be Dancing”! Russell obviously hated every minute of it..... NOT! Good times!

Fran was really missing her family today. Her son saved the day by bringing by a bunch of old family photos. She lit up immediately and started sharing stories about raising her boys. A picture is worth a thousand words!
Thank you to every BFM who stayed late because they couldn't get out of the parking lot. To every BFM that braved the snow storm and still showed up. To every BFM that helped coordinate everyone getting into and out of work during this crazy snow storm we had today. You care and you show up!!
Russell just loved his blue tree for his room and laughed at the penguin hat his daughter dropped off for him today. His smile says it all!
Ethel said the snow sure is beautiful, but I'm so grateful to be inside with my hot cocoa!
Kathleen and Mary were enjoying some Christmas music to start off December. Watching the snow coming down outside the big window definitely helped us feel the Christmas spirit today!
It was a beauty day today! Nails promised, clipped, and painted red. Thank you Lala for making sure the ladies felt special and catered to today! Snack and beverages were also provided to make sure we all really had all we needed!
Russ painted some wooden ornaments that his daughter dropped off to him. He kindly shared some of the paints and ornaments with Joanne and she painted 2 herself. We really are a family looking out for everyone. Thanks Taylor for dropping them off, and thanks Russ for sharing with your housemates!
Fran had a beauty day! Nails done, hair done. She said she felt like a new person. So glad Fran is finally feeling like herself again!! She also got to facetime with her sister and her granddaughter. Great day all around!
Frank made great strides with his Physical Therapist Scott from Fox Rehab. He said he felt fantastic and super strong after their session!
Joanne, our resident den Mother, made sure everyone sanitized after our intense volleyball game. Thanks Joanne for always looking out for everyone!!
We had a fierce Volleyball competition today. It was meant to be a 30 minute exercise, but turned into 3 hours of serious competition and great fun!
Merry Christmas, Santa has come early. We are happy to announce visitation can resume and these seats will no longer be empty! Visits can be scheduled from 9:00am to 7:30 pm through the concierge! Welcome back families, we miss all of you!!

Today we made stockings to hang outside our apartments with the hope Santa will fill with treats on Christmas morning! The residents were asked to leave a note so Santa would know exactly what they wanted. Sussy's I think reflects what alot of us are feeling this season. We don't need material things we need healing. Thanks Sussy for reminding everyone the reason for the season!

Should have gotten more pictures of baking club meeting and Fox Rehab making some Christmas cookies. My apologies. It was fun with all the Fox residents working along side the therapists. Cookies were delicious. Julia who once owned a bakery was not happy that they didnt separate the dry ingredients from the wet ingredients. Next time she may need to lead the class!
Thanks Fox Rehab for helping with Gingerbread houses! I am not sure which part was more fun - making them or eating them!
Susan is so very talented and creative! She made this gingerbread house out of items she found in her apartment and around the community!

Today the Assisted Living residents went to Mary Bs and participated in a noodle ball game. They had so much fun and we were 1 family today in a combined effort to create friendships!

The residents of Bickford enjoyed a great game of Bingo that included prizes. We choose to host Bingo games on Saturdays to encourage socialization. It gives our residents something to look forward on the weekends and our group is growing every week. Our prizes today included candy bars, chips, and bickford bucks. All of our winners chose the snacks. Lol
We at Bickford of Rocky River are a family. We enjoy each other's company and find joy in the small things. Today we hosted a "Rum party" In our beautiful Bistro following our awesome bingo hour. Our Rum party is not what it sounds like- Our residents shared Rum Recipes- we played trivia games that centered around rum- and of course we had snacks with Coco- Cola.
Since it's not safe to go to the spa during a pandemic, we brought the spa to Anne! Now she has gorgeous toes and her feet feel wonderful!
Music Therapy via zoom! So looking forward to the day she can come back in with all her instruments so we can play along!
Singing was abundant today during Karaoke!! We are all blessed with the love of singing, some of us not so much blessed with the voice for singing. We did not care today and enjoyed all the voices that joined in!
Today we had fun crafting! Very creative and very fun!
MaryBs had a competitive game of bean bag toss, then made peanut butter, banana rice cakes. Delicious!!

We had a visitor today! Our CRD, Crystal, was dog sitting so she brought Esme up to the branch to bring some smiles! Mickey was even excited to have a friend.
