Did You Know: Alabama was the FIRST state to declare Christmas an official holiday in 1836.
Merry Christmas, y’all!
On this night, let us remember the reason for the season...
As we prepare for the coldest Christmas we've had in quite a while, we have been asked "What should we do to protect our home from the freezing weather?". Here are some steps to keep your home safe, toasty and warm for the Christmas holiday.
TO KEEP YOUR HOME WARM AND TOASTY:
Let your home build up heat, set the thermostat up a degree or 2 prior to the temperature drop, and keep door opening to a minimum.
TO PREVENT FROZEN PIPES:
Leave cabinet doors open where there is adjacent plumbing on an exterior wall.
Leave a faucet, valve or hose bib dripping. You want to have a steady drip, about the size of a #2 pencil lead. If you choose to leave a hose bib dripping, make sure it's not in a walk way or path.
Choose faucets, valves, hose bibs etc. that are on opposite ends of your home, this will keep the water flowing through out your water supply system. And only turn on the cold water side of a faucet/valve.
Remember that shady areas or North facing areas are most prone to wind chill and potential freezing, so that should help you choose which faucets, valves, hose bibs to leave dripping
Be sure to disconnect garden/water hoses from hose bib's, spigots, etc..
Lastly, if a faucet, valve or hose bib does happen to freeze, do not attempt to turn it off, let it thaw and then turn it off.
Just a few suggestions if your concerned about the cold weather coming in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and we hope that everyone will take a moment and remember the Reason for the Season.
Stay safe and warm, and if you need us, give us a call.
