Here are the Big Keys… the ingredients to our Secret Sauce …
Are you ready?
Air Sealing!
Air Sealing!
Air Sealing!
A BIG REASON our clients are so crazy-happy with their cellulose attic insulation makeover is that Beau & Chris are dedicated about airsealing. And if that's not enough, the 15” (R-50) of high-density cellulose insulation aids in blocking the uncontrolled air infiltration!
Now, that’s value!
Wondering what to do with your crawlspace?
Have you asked questions like:
“I have a client who has an encapsulated crawlspace, and he insulated his attic with foam insulation. Yesterday he noticed green mold growing in the corners of one room. What should I tell him?”
“Not even a year ago we replaced our floors with new hardwood flooring. They’ve started buckling, and the floor company said it’s due to high humidity in my crawlspace! Will you come see what’s going on? I need help!”
“From time to time, we can smell a musty smell in our house. I think it’s coming from our dirt crawlspace. Our home feels like it has high humidity inside. Will you quote a new moisture barrier for me?”
ALL of your answers are here in this blog, written by Mr. Bob himself, check it out! https://www.birdinsulation.com/blog/2020/september/what-to-do-with-your-vented-crawlspace/

Many homeowners in the Atlanta, GA area do not consider their floors as an area that needs to be insulated. Walls and ceilings, sure – but floors? You'd be surprised at what a layer of quality insulation under your floors can do for home comfort and energy efficiency. We highly recommend floor insulation in a variety of cases.
Yesterday, we had the privilege of improving not only comfort but indoor air quality for a family in the McDonough area!
-
To improve these issues, the Bird crew created a new dedicated duct to a specific bedroom that had a major temperature shift from the rest of the home! Not only did we run a new direct duct, but we were also able to dense pack the floor cavity under a bonus room with none other than Applegate cellulose. After these services, the airflow in our homeowner's room went up 30%, which will result in a much more comfortable living space!

We install spray foam insulation under floors! We have found this to be the only acceptable technique (compared to fiberglass batts) for rewarding our clients with a durable, lifetime insulation product that is both a thermal barrier and a moisture/air barrier! Dry wood floors are comfortable floors, year-round.
Using closed cell spray foam insulation provides these three key benefits:
> It’s a moisture barrier.
> It’s an air barrier.
> It’s a thermal barrier.
You win with drier, healthier floors that aren’t negatively influenced by the damp, harmful environment beneath your home. Now, your floors are SEALED, and positively influenced by the climate-controlled environment inside your home!
Are the walls in your home contributing to hot and cold rooms? They could be what are called "kneewalls."
Kneewalls are finished on one side (sheetrock and paint) and unfinished on the other side (facing attic or crawlspace). When neglected, kneewalls can be a huge source of discomfort.

It’s a GREAT day for a comfort upgrade!! Installing Applegate cellulose in a neighborhood near you. 👏🏼

Simple… If you're anything like my 20 years of homeowners, YOU WILL NEVER REGRET THE DECISION to employ Bird Family Insulation!
I’ve installed three brands across 20 years, and over 4 MILLION pounds.
𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲. My all-time FAVORITE cellulose! For over 12 years I’ve been an Applegate guy, and I’ve no intention of changing. An Applegate plant is here in Georgia (Toccoa), so my business supports a GA company. Applegate is family-owned, and we all share the same family values. It’s a GREAT FEELING!
1. No mess. The installation went smooth, no dust, no mess.
2. One and two weeks after our installation, we hear comments like, “Bob, we’ve never seen so many dead bugs!”.
3. Sound deadening. Our homeowners around an interstate or noisy areas love the sound deadening qualities. Sound waves “die” in the 15” of high-density cellulose.
4. It works! We hear over-and-over that the cellulose insulation upgrade “did the trick, we’re finally comfortable!”
Here is what I do to control RH inside my 1976, 1800 ft2, wood siding ranch. We have four full-time adults, two additional part-time adults, some plants, and two large dogs.
> Closed up my vented crawlspace, and installed an Aprilaire Moisture Medic dehumidifier. The setting is 50%.
> Closed cell foam insulation is on my foundation walls.
> Removed all fiberglass floor insulation.
> Replaced carpet with hardwood.
> Airsealed my attic floor, and installed Applegate Bora Spray cellulose insulation to R-50.
> Replaced my single pane, double sash wood windows with Pella Thermopane vinyl units.
> Airsealed around each casing before installing.
> Installed vented exhaust fans in each of my two bathrooms.
> Installed a vented range hood in the kitchen.
> Installed a RETURN air vent in every room, except the kitchen and bathrooms.
> Relocated my laundry room from inside the living space, to the garage.
My 20-year-old, 3 ton HVAC system is located in my closed crawlspace. In summer, my AC thermostat is set at 73 degrees and never struggles to maintain our comfort. In winter, we keep the system at about the same temperature (because my 93-year-old Mom lives with us, and likes it warm).
And, LIFE IS GOOD in the Bird house!

FAQ: What is Causing my Bonus Room to be so Uncomfortable?
undefined
The HVAC was originally sized for the main house, without the bonus room capacity. Therefore when a supply vent was added to provide heated and cooled air to this space, the source was taken from an existing line. An existing HVAC duct is spliced, like a "sucker" growing on a tomato plant, to supply conditioned air to the bonus room.
Often the insulation is installed lying on the garage ceiling, NOT in continuous, full contact with the subfloor overhead. An R-19 batt is 6″ thick. Joists and floor systems are taller, leaving a huge air channel for lateral air movement to negatively influence your overhead floor. Add an eave and soffit vent on each end of the joist run, and no wonder the room is miserably uncomfortable.
Do You Need A Solution to Your Wet, Damp, Vented Crawlspace?

Here’s the kind of calls I receive almost on a daily basis…
> Bob, we can smell the crawlspace. An “earthy” smell. (“Earthy smell” can mean wood rot, organism activity, or more. It’s associated with dampness, an enemy to your home).
> We hear noises in our air ducts, and/or see small tufts or balls of fiberglass insulation being blown into our vent covers. (Rodents have chewed into the flex ducts or duct board, and are contaminating your air ducts).
>There’s standing water in my crawlspace.
>“I see splotches of a white powdery substance on my joists. I see black mold in places under the house.
> Bob, there’s mildew growing in my closet. And my shoes have mildew inside of them…
Etc, Etc, Etc.
If you have experienced any of the concerns above, your home may be in need of a crawlspace encapsulation. Call us today for a free estimate and to get your family on the journey to improved indoor air quality!

Atlanta neighborhoods are green with lots of trees and greenspaces. We love our trees, I’ve been taught that afternoon shade from a big tree over your roof has the same effect as adding an extra ton of AC performance to your home!
But with all these trees, come rodents and insects.
Here’s how we tackle these unhealthy problems:
1. We use high-performance vacuums to remove the insulation, rolled or batt insulation is removed by hand - sanitize and prep, with the end result of improving your home’s Indoor Air Quality:
2. Using Pestblock expanding foam, we seal every accessible gap, we completely ISOLATE the attic environment from trespassing into your living space!
3. Now it’s time to install your fresh Applegate Bora Spray Cellulose Insulation! The U.S. Department of Energy recommends R-49 for your attic insulation. Our R-50 satisfies the recommended level of performance from those experts.
4. The 11+% boric acid content in our Bora Spray formula rewards you with these benefits (compare with TAP brand cellulose used by some exterminators):
a. Insects and organisms (like mold & mildew) are killed.
b. Lifetime-of-structure fire-retardant qualities.
There’s a HUGE difference between employing Bird Family Insulation and most local pest control companies to clean-up and reinsulate your attic. The estimate from a pest control company may only read: “Remove attic insulation, and install R-30 (or R-38) fiberglass insulation.” There’s no prep, NO AIR SEALING. If they sanitize, it may only be “perfume water”. With BIRD, you’ll Invest a little more money, and breathe easy!
