Most businesses want more leads. Marketing online without source tracking your leads is like throwing your business card out of a blimp. Maybe it worked? Maybe it didn’t?
Your business just spent $1,000 on Facebook or Google ads but you can’t tell whether or not it worked. Did you get more business? Did that business come from the money you spent online? If you don’t know where your money is going, your business can’t be successful.
If your business has spent money on online marketing, but you are struggling to see growth, you may need better conversion tracking.

For most companies, their search engine optimization (SEO) journey starts with an SEO audit. What’s the big deal about an audit, and why do we recommend everyone start by doing one? Those are great questions.
Imagine taking your car to a mechanic and asking them to just replace the engine and transmission and the suspension while they’re at it? The mechanic will say, “Whoa, wait a second, are we sure all that needs to be done? Let’s take a close look at it first.”
An SEO audit is a bit like that, but even more in-depth.

A little plane ride...upside down!
bizmktg.com is in Ventura, California.

“As we took off, the hair on my arms and neck stood up. It was like riding in a small sportscar when you are used to riding in a large SUV. We did a turn and quickly gained altitude. Once we reached about 4,000 feet, Maurizio offered me the controls. In the case of the Pitt Special, a stick. I had never flown a stick except with a computer simulation. The plane was quite responsive and actually turned as I expected. Maurizio had me turn left, then pull the stick back. We went into a nice spiral. After what seemed like too long, he said, “time to level out.” Then I suggested that he take over. That’s when the flight got real fun.”

Take a look at your website and ask yourself: Could a caveman figure it out?
If you’re not confident that a caveman with no web experience could navigate and understand your website, then chances are that you will be missing out on a lot of business. That’s right, if it’s not simple enough for a caveman to use, then it’s not simple enough for many customers. Just as the news reporting world communicates at a third-grade level, the online world needs to be simple and easily understood.
“When you confuse, you lose.” -Donald Miller
Bottom line, today’s average user will spend less than 15 seconds on a website before clicking, swiping, or leaving. It’s vital that every user is able to quickly understand what you do, how to do business with you, and why they need to choose your company. Otherwise they will probably go somewhere else.
Prospective customers won’t spend the time to dig through your website, so you must make the user experience as clear and accessible as possible. We have found one helpful way to approach accomplishing this is by designing our websites for someone who has never used websites before, like a caveman. If you think a caveman could figure it out, then you know your website is accessible and intuitive.
In this article, we want to address two main website pitfalls we see businesses falling into. Avoid these in order to create an accessible and effective website everyone can use. These pitfalls have to do with a cluttered visual design and/or unclear messaging.
