We know it can be tricky to wear glasses and a face mask, because the lenses in your glasses can become foggy. It's hard on your kids, too, if they wear glasses and a face mask at school! We now carry this anti-fog protection for the lenses which minimizes the "fogging" issue.
While contact lenses provide many vision benefits, they are not risk-free. One important tip to remember is that a contact lens is a medical device that requires a prescription. Different contact lenses often are made from different materials and in different sizes, some of which can be comfortable and healthy for you to wear, while others can lead to discomfort and even eye health problems.
It's someone's birthday today! If you see him this week, be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday Dr. Bateman!

The people love her! Great job Jo! We are so happy to have you.

This has been a challenging year for all of us. It helps to spread a bit of positivity! What is something you're grateful for?
Contact lens safety tips: always wash and thoroughly dry your hands before handling contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before swimming or entering a hot tub, don’t use tap water to wash or store contact lenses - only use fresh solution to clean and store contact lenses. You may also consider asking us about daily use contact lenses!
Who is loving the fall weather? 🍁😍
Kindness - treating others how we want to be treated - is a key reason why we feel our practice is a welcoming, friendly environment for us as a team and for patients. 😍
Contact lens safety tip: Don't overwear your contact lenses and be sure to discard and replace them as directed. Even if you care for your lenses as directed, lens deposits continue to build up on your contacts over time. The longer you go before replacing your lenses, the greater potential these lens deposits have to reduce the oxygen supply to your corneas and damage your eyes.
There are some great benefits to purchasing an annual supply of contact lenses with us!
Decorative contact lenses are sometimes a part of Halloween costumes, but beware – contact lenses are not cosmetics or over-the-counter merchandise. They are medical devices regulated by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. A poor fit can cause serious eye damage.
It's important to protect our eyes year-round from the sun and UV rays - not just during the summer. Ask us about our collection of sunglasses - prescription and non-prescription - at your next visit! 😎
Help us wish our Technician, Rachael a happy birthday! Enjoy your special day.

You may have heard that diabetes causes eye problems and may lead to blindness. People with diabetes do have a higher risk of blindness than people without diabetes. Your retina can be badly damaged before you notice any change in vision. For this reason, you should have your eyes examined regularly by an eye care professional. Diabetic retinopathy — vision-threatening damage to the retina of the eye caused by diabetes — is the leading cause of blindness among working-age Americans. The good news: Diabetic retinopathy often can be prevented with early detection, proper management of your diabetes and routine eye exams.

If you have diabetes, it’s important for you to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. Diabetic retinopathy may not have any symptoms at first — but finding it early can help you take steps to protect your vision. We can check for diabetic retinopathy as part of a dilated eye exam. 2020 has definitely presented unique challenges for all of us - and it's more important now than ever to look for the good! Developing a spirit of gratitude can help. Some people find that starting each day naming three things for which they are grateful has a great impact on their frame of mind for the rest of the day. What's good in your world?

Around 9% of those residing in the United States have diabetes, and approximately 1 out of 3 diabetic adults are affected by diabetic retinopathy. In the early stages of diabetic retinopathy, existing blood vessels in the eye can become swollen and blocked, and leak blood and fluid into the retina—though there may be no visual symptoms. Diabetic retinopathy can get worse over time, particularly if it's not managed. Early detection and treatment can go a long way to reduce the severity of diabetic retinopathy.
Having diabetes can put your vision at risk. Three common diseases that can develop from untreated diabetes are cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. This is one reason your eye health exam is so important.
As this year is coming to a close, we’re changing our mindset to focus on seeing the good. Join the movement, focus on seeing the good in all things. #blaineeyeclinic #seethegood #kindness2020

January is National Glaucoma Awareness month. Glaucoma is a complex disease in which damage to the optic nerve leads to progressive, irreversible vision loss, and is the second leading cause of blindness. It’s also known as the “sneak thief of sight” because early stages of glaucoma usually have no symptoms, no noticeable vision loss and no pain. Early detection, through regular and complete eye exams, is the key to protecting your vision. Age-related macular degeneration, or AMD, is our focus this month. It is a leading cause for vision loss in Americans 50 and older. Risk factors for AMD include family history of AMD, aging, having light-colored eyes, smoking, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, high sun exposure and a poor diet with a low intake of antioxidants. Low vision is a vision problem that makes it hard to do everyday activities. It can’t be fixed with glasses, contact lenses, or other standard treatments like medicine or surgery. Many different eye conditions can cause low vision, but the most common causes are AMD (age-related macular degeneration), cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Low vision is more common in older adults because many of the diseases that can cause it are more common in older adults. Aging doesn’t cause low vision on its own. March is Save Your Vision month! Your eyes are an important part of your health. Make sure you schedule your comprehensive eye health exam this year! You may think your vision is fine or that your eyes are healthy, but a comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to really be sure. When it comes to common vision problems, you may not realize they could see better with glasses or contact lenses. Many common eye diseases often have no warning signs. A dilated eye exam is the only way to detect these diseases in their early stages. #saveyourvisionmonth #eyeexam

March is Save Your Vision month! Another great tip to protect your eyes and vision is to always wear good sunglasses when you’re outside. March is Workplace Eye Wellness month. If you are in front of screens all day long – your computer, tablet, phone – you may experience eye discomfort and vision problems. Your discomfort may increase with the amount of digital screen use. The average American worker spends seven hours a day on the computer either in the office or working from home. To help alleviate digital eyestrain, follow the 20-20-20 rule; take a 20-second break to view something 20 feet away every 20 minutes. #digitaleyestrain #workplaceeyewellness
