Congratulations to "KK" Kaitlyn Hughes (daughter of Attorneys Leslee French Hughes and Scott Hughes) and teammate Abigail Dorsett for both being awarded the Maggie Bowles Scholarship for 2020! Abigail will be attending Samford University where she will major in Special Education and of course play softball, and KK will be attending the University of South Alabama where she will major in Biomedical Science and pitch for the Jaguars! We would like to congratulate Abigail Dorsett and Kaitlyn Hughes, the recipients of the Maggie Grace Bowles Softball Scholarship for 2020.
Abigail and Kaitlyn both played at Trussville Girls Softball Association when they were younger and were part of the Hewitt-Trussville 7A Softball State Championship team.
Before the 2020 season was cut short, due to Covid19, both ladies had put up strong numbers and led their team to a record of 12-1-1. Kaitlyn pitched 35 innings with a record of 7 wins, 0 losses and an ERA of 1.00. Abigail played centerfield, with a batting average of .455 and perfect fielding %.
Kaitlyn Hughes plans on attending the University of South Alabama. She is committed to play softball and study Biomedical Sciences.
“Softball is just a game that eventually ends for everyone, but it has taught me life lessons that I could not have learned anywhere else. It has taught me to push through some of the hardest times and love others unconditionally. I am eternally grateful for the life that softball has given me”.
Abigail Dorsett plans on attending Samford University. She is committed to play softball and major in Special Education.
“The game of softball involves not only physical challenges, but mental challenges as well. Playing softball for ten years has shaped me into the leader I am today and inspires me to be the best that I can! Softball has motivated me to work hard, improve daily, and never settle. It has shown me that you will fail more than you succeed, but to never give up”.
A common theme shared with the recipients this year is playing for their team’s success over their own.

Happy Veterans Day to my military sisters and brothers. Rest In Peace for those no longer here (I made mention of family and my former 1SG).
