We had a craving for poké, but with several places still having restrictions in San Diego, we went down to National City to scratch our itch. And boy were we happy to find this place. Oddly enough, John has driven by it many times, as it is right across the street from his beloved Jollibee!
So, this restaurant is owned by fishermen and it shows. The business owners have more than 30 years of experience in the seafood industry, and rely on high quality, line-caught, sustainably sourced wild fish. To get started, think about it like Chipotle for poké: you select a size pick a base pick add-ons pack your proteins and then add sauces and toppings. They encourage customization!
John had the large bowl (4 scoops of protein), with brown rice base, crab salad, edamame, cucumber, avocado, scallops, salmon, the blue poke sauce, and topped with green onions and masago. I had the small bowl (2 scoops of protein), with spiraled cucumber base, crab salad, avocado, edamame, salmon, ahi, the blue poke sauce also, and topped with green onions and seaweed flakes. Such a great concept, and extremely well-executed.
We can’t wait to come back. Probably when John has Jolliee craving, I’ll get some blue poké!

I love a lot about this mural, but It just feels like it’s missing some little detail. I feel like the wall wanted me to do ONE MORE THING and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Comment one thing that you think would make this mural even better, one small change or addition. Don’t worry. You won’t hurt my feelings. I love direction and advice. :) It makes me better when I listen.

Well that was fun! Blending and freestyling is my favorite thing. My client said the inspiration was “Spring” and then let me run free. An hour later, this is what we have...and it’s just the base coat! More to come...
