Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Associates will begin seeing patients in our office in a gradual reopening process on Monday July 13, 2020. We have not been seeing patients in our office since March due to concerns about the Covid 19 Virus and in alignment with various state and federal guidelines. As the Center for Disease Control guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment have been shown to effectively control the spread of this virus, we now will begin providing office based evaluation and treatment.
To maximize the safety of patients and staff, the following procedures are established.
- Only one patient at a time will be allowed in the office at one
time. If the patient is a child, one parent will be allowed to
accompany the child.
- Patients and family will wait in their cars until a staff member
comes out to initiate the visit. The patient or a responsible
adult
will answer a quick medical/ recent history questionnaire
presented by that staff member.
- The patient and any accompanying adult will have their
temperatures taken.
- Once the questionnaire and temperatures are negative for
exposure to the Covid 19 Virus, the patient will be escorted to
a treatment room in the office or to an outside canopied
treatment area.
- All patients and personnel will socially distance as much as is
possible, and all over 2 years of age will wear masks, plus a
face
shield as needed.
- Each treatment area or other rooms (bathroom) used by a
patient will be disinfected before another patient is seen.
- Patient scheduling will ensure that 30 minutes are allowed
between patients to allow for cleaning, disinfecting and air
exchange.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this transitional time.
-The Staff at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Associates.

Masks and social distancing are necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, these also provide unique challenges for communication, especially for those with hearing loss

This may not be something you've thought about - but people with hearing loss are having a tough time with mask requirements.
Though most agree masks are important in preventing the spread of COVID-19, they make it tough for those with hearing loss to understand what someone is saying.
Now, some hearing organizations hope the CDC can help by making a change. Take a look.

Parents always know their child best, but they now may be spending more time than ever with them. If you are a parent with concerns that your child isn't meeting communication milestones, watch this video message from ASHA 2020 President Theresa Rodgers, MA, CCC-SLP. Learn the signs of communication disorders at www.identifythesigns.org, and seek help from a certified audiologist or speech-language pathologist if you are worried. Assessments are still happening in early intervention, even at this time--some via telepractice and some in person. Don't delay--the earlier, the better!
