Puddin' the Clown brought his extraordinary balloon animals and light-humored jokes to our Vista residents last week. Even through the masks, you can see all of the smiles!
This year's Play for Freedom golf tournament looked a little different: instead of golfing, players walked or drove up to our driving range to pick up their shirts, lunches, goodie bags, and coupons for a round of golf to be used on their own time.
Participants and volunteers had fun in the sun, but we look forward to returning to the links (hopefully) in 2021! Thanks to all our residents and sponsors for your continued support!!
**Looking for a flu shot?** Our residents and staff don't have to look far, thanks to Carvajal Pharmacy and our outstanding Wellness Team. This week, they set up shop at both our campuses giving residents and staff flu and other immunizations, all from the comfort of Blue Skies home.
Did you know that Carvajal not only takes care of our residents' pharmaceuticals but also supports our charitable mission to take care of those in need? Let's give them a big "thank you" below!
S'mores anyone?! Who says you need to travel to go camping? Last week, Arnold House brought the camping adventures--campfires, fishing, tents, yummy food--straight to our residents!
We love it when our residents and their families share their stories! Did you know some of our residents helped raise money to build our first campus?
Check out what some of our residents did this weekend! Thank you, Travis Manion Foundation, for the shout out!!

The #911HeroesRun is for anyone who wants to honor and remember the heroes of 9/11 and the wars since. A huge shout out to the residents of Blue Skies of Texas military retirement community -- they have been on lockdown since March for the protection of the senior residents, but came together to walk 3.1 miles in remembrance. #IfNotMeThenWho
Last Friday, the staff at Freedom House celebrated our very own Kurt Riedel on National Boss Day! Sneaky staff surprised Kurt by dubbing him a Jedi Knight, celebrating him in Star Wars style. Thank you, Kurt, for your years of service to our residents in memory care!

OKTOBERFEST is alive and well on our East Campus! Residents were served a Brat Wellington with roast beets and a tasty German Baumkuchen or "Tree Cake". Can you say YUM??

Congrats to our newest Eagle Donors, Jim and Valerie Byrd! These newer Blue Skies residents decided to invest in its charitable mission, aiding fellow residents who've outlive their resources through no fault of their own, because of their love for their new home and neighbors.
Despite the pandemic, these two have formed lasting friendships and found a caring community within our walls, and this was their way of saying "thank you!" Let's give them a big "thank you" in return!

On Saturday, Blue Skies residents and staff gathered outside Freedom House, our Alzheimer's Care and Research Center, to participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Blue Skies style. A giant American flag displayed by the Fire Department joined festive balloons to give the event a special feeling while participants walked laps around our campus.
Thank you to Mike Westwood for the photos!

We are in LOVE with chocolate!! This month, Blue Skies dining (via Morrison Community Living) is celebrating this loveable superfood: dark chocolate! Filled with plenty of iron and antioxidants, dark chocolate is a great addition to any diet.
However, today was not a day for diets because this chocolate cake was to DIE for. It was big enough to feed a family and came complete with strawberries and chocolate sauce, all boxed and ready to go at our residents' convenience.

Let's TACO-bout our second-most tenured employee, Sandra Hernandez!! Today marks her 33rd anniversary at Blue Skies, formerly known as Air Force Village -- wow!!
While she started in housekeeping at our West campus just after it opened in 1988, she now serves as our Front Desk Manager at the East campus. Dave and Danielle made sure she celebrated in style, and Blue Skies is lucky to have someone as dedicated as Sandra! Congratulations!!
It may be winter, but it's still beautiful here at Blue Skies. This photo is from yesterday's sunrise on our campus, and it's clear why so many residents love to greet the sun with a morning walk.

Today we celebrate Roger Hansen, winner of our Distinguished Service Award on our West campus. Nominated by John and Lois Revak, residents and staff agreed that Roger's service as Resident Council Chairman during 2020 amid the pandemic was truly outstanding. Bravo, Roger!!
Stay tuned next month for the announcement of our East campus recipient.
CONGRATULATIONS to Lori DeWitt, our Resident Services Director at West, for TWENTY years of service here at Blue Skies!! We are so thankful to have her (and Bob the Dog) as part of our Blue Skies family.
Lori's team surprised her with balloons, flowers, and a bottle of wine presented by General Jones while they were on a Zoom call. She followed with "I'm glad to be here!" and says she finds reasons to smile every day.
Thank you, Lori, for your years of service. Blue Skies West would not be the same without you and Bob!

Over the past several weeks, we have administered hundreds of doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with more on the way. More than 97 percent of independent living residents here have already received their first doses, and nearly all residents of our higher levels of care have completed both rounds of vaccination. For our tight-knit community, the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel keeps getting brighter.
