According to a verywellmind's article "Substance Use Overview": Substance abuse can simply be defined as a pattern of harmful use of any substance for mood-altering purposes. "Substances" can include alcohol and other drugs (illegal or not) as well as some substances that are not drugs at all. "Abuse" can result because you are using a substance in a way that is not intended or recommended, or because you are using more than prescribed. To be clear, someone can use substances and not be addicted or even have a substance use disorder, as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Autumn anxiety is an annual increase in anxiety some people begin to feel during the autumn months. Experts say some causes of this anxiety may be due to beginning a new school year, the looming stress of the holiday season, or possible regret from not having achieved desired goals over the summer. Changes in diet, daily exercise, and increased exposure to daylight are all ways people can minimize the effects of autumn anxiety. Today's helpful tip for those battling with depression: Allow yourself to feel bad. While this may sound counterproductive, it is a good idea to take some time to understand what feels bad and why you might be feeling this way. It is normal to feel sadness and also to spend energy understanding why you feel this sadness. Reach out to a friend or family member and tell them how you feel. It is a good way to resolve recurring bad feelings, as well as accepting a bad feeling and turning it into a positive. Struggling with Mental Health call (888) 822-7348 or visit BlueSkyRecovery.com.
https://apnews.com/5bdc5ffccd2666838fc57765df41a27b NEW YORK (AP) — Federal regulators are setting up a new three-digit number to reach a suicide prevention hotline in order to make it easier to seek help and reduce the stigma associated with mental health. Once it’s implemented, people will just need to dial 988 to seek help, similar to calling 911 for emergencies or 311 for city services. Currently, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline uses a 10-digit number, 800-273-TALK (8255). Callers are routed to one of 163 crisis centers, where counselors answered 2.2 million calls last year. “The three-digit number is really going to be a breakthrough in terms of reaching people in a crisis,” said Dwight Holton, CEO of Lines for Life, a suicide prevention nonprofit. “No one is embarrassed to call 911 for a fire or an emergency. No one should be embarrassed to call 988 for a mental health emergency.” Struggling with Mental Health call (888) 822-7348 or visit BlueSkyRecovery.com.
