Today is #WorldChildrensDay, a day to celebrate action for children, by children. We'd like to share a story of a remarkable young man whose advocacy resulted in better transportation for him and other students with special needs. After seeing the new, shiny propane busses that were part of a pilot project in his school district, he wanted everyone of all needs to have access to them. He researched the benefits of propane busses, circulated a petition, and continued advocating for new propane busses to ensure all students had access.
Here he is standing in front of a new propane bus that the Department of Transportation dedicated to him. We're so impressed with and grateful for his determination and good citizenship. His story proves that advocacy can start at any age.

As we continue to celebrate and honor Black History Month, we're spotlighting the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. Born to a formerly enslaved couple, Nannie Helen Burroughs excelled in school and had dreams of being an educator. Though she was turned down for a public school teaching position, she created a trade school for Black high school (and junior college) aged girls called the National Training School for Women and Girls. The school's motto was "We Specialize in the Wholly Impossible" - a reflection of Burroughs' dedication to achieving her dreams and advocating for Black women.
