We are proud to play a small part in a wonderful story that started 15 years ago please take the time to read this heart warming story. Special thanks to Mark Stuchel and his family and friends for all of their hard work and happy holidays from Bob Brown Chevrolet!
This is Mark’s story.
Toys for Tots 2020. The story begins 15 years ago with a grandpa wanting to teach his grandson how people make money to buy Christmas presents. After a day of selling flashlights on my route on Black Friday, we figured out how much money he had made. I told him he had made about $40 profit so he could go buy Christmas presents for his mom and dad. He told me “I want to buy presents for kids that don’t get Christmas presents”. So we took him to go shop for those gifts and dropped them off at a Toys for Tots collection site. I will never forget the lesson that my grandson taught me. He was 6 years old.
15 years later, I take a whole week off of my truck selling things to raise money to go buy toys. Black Friday I still have a grand daughter that goes with me. Saturday morning we go to Walmart and go buy toys. Now though, we have recruited friends to help us shop because of all the support that we get.
Have you ever wanted to go into the toy department and wipe it out by buying a bunch of toys? I did. Guess what? It’s kinda fun.
We as a village are taking care of our own. This has been a very trying year and I wasn’t sure what to expect with this years event. We raised a record amount of money and donated a record amount of toys. I am honored to tell you WE donated 5330 toys including 20 bicycles to Toys for Tots. I am very humbled every year by the support that you give this event.
I want to thank those that help me shop; Chris Brindley, Susan Wetrich Brindley, Kamilla Brindley,Mathew Brindley,Bailey Oliver, Chad Hein, Kaylie Hein, Cody Rost, Jacob Baird, Charity Kriger. My granddaughter Kendall for going to work with her grandpa and my wife Suzy for all she does to make sure the purchases go through. Walmart in West Des Moines for helping us and taking care of on our purchases and Bob Brown Chevy for giving us a place to drop them off.
To my grandson Colby Groom, it was a great idea. You have taught your grandpa a lesson that I could never repay.
A big thank you to all that purchased items off of the trailer to make this possible.
We helped out a lot of children so that they get something for Christmas.
