SUNDAY FUNDAY . Fun Factoid: The longest plank was 8 hrs, 15 mins, and 15 secs. . One trick I used to get my plank up. Is to turn on one of your favorite songs right when the timer starts. See if you can make it through the whole song. It really helps to know the words of the song. You can sing along in your head and close your eyes. Let that music take you to a different place so your mind isn’t weighed down as much. . One thing I learned in strength training is that the mind tends to give up before the body does. . Listening to a favorite song or motivation speech can take your mind to those depth it never knew. . DRAKE’S PREFERRED SOURCES OF MOTIVATION . This is only personal preference for myself. Everybody gets motivated by different things, but I thought I’d share what burns brightest for me to give ideas for people who can’t seem to get motivated. . 1.) ENCOURAGEMENT - I do love receiving praise and support from my support group. Hearing that someone else believes in me can really help me get out of the hole for when I doubt myself. . 2.) PAIN - I’m not talking about the pain of stepping on a nail. I’m talking about the pain that burns deep within. The pain that mutates my mind. The pain that makes me feel like a cornered junk yard dog. This type of pain will make me actually cross the bridge into the unknown and try something new in order to find a way out. If I want to change a certain behavior. I think about how much pain that behavior brings me and what is has done to me in the past. I have to continue pushing forward so I never have to go back to that spot. . 3.) DOUBT - I’m not talking about self- doubt. I’m talking about when someone else doubts me. I’d like to quote one of my favorite badasses Stone Cold Steve Austin . “Nothing in hell gives you the right to tell another person what they can and can not do” . When I hear someone say “you can’t”, “your not able”, “your not gonna”, or “your not good enough”. It’s like dumping kerosene all over my mental fire. I swear, nothing feels quite like proving someone wrong and inspiring others at the same time. It’s important to note that when a person tells you this. It’s often a reflection of their own self esteem. . If you feel the inability to get motivated. The best advice I can give you because it works so well for me. Find a support group that encourages you, remember the pain of what drove you to those low points, be a dreamer and prove your haters wrong. . Everyone is on a journey. Expecting a trainer/ coach to know everything about health and fitness is a bit unrealistic. Health and fitness is broad term and has many different facets. To know everything about all of them would take 5 lifetimes. . Observe if that coach/trainer is continually learning, making progress, and implementing effectively. . Observe how they take feedback and handle questions. How well do they communicate? . Avoid the ones that don’t make progress, pretend to know everything, take feedback poorly, and don’t communicate. . Thank You for being with me on my journey. PLAN < STRATEGY . I’d like to quote one of my favorite motivational athletes; Mike Tyson. . “Everyone has plan until they get hit in the face” . No matter how good a plan might seem, there is no way to predict the future. That plan only as good as the paper it’s printed on. . I often see this as a paralyzing crutch people use towards exercise and other aspects of life. . They won’t get started until they have PERFECT diet and workout plan designed specially for their body. . The perfect plan doesn’t exsist because there are too many different variables happening on a day to day basis that can not be foreseen. . Instead, utilize non negotiable strategies. . Rules that you ingrain in your lifestyle that are done no matter what. . Here are some of the non negotiable strategies I use that can help you stay on path no matter what. . 1.) No Quitting - A day off, a week off, hell even 2 weeks off, whatever, but never say die. Get knocked down 10 times; get back up 11 times. . 2.) No blaming others - Even if someone did piss in your corn flakes. It was your choice on how to react and your choice to let it affect you. . 3.) No lying - If you mess up, fess up. Face the problem like an adult and learn from it. Lying is like sweeping a dead mouse under the couch only to worry about it later. Soon the stench will drive you nuts and you will have a messier problem to clean up. . Nothing special. . No quiting, no blaming, and no lying. . It doesn’t seem like much, but you would be surprised at how many different aspects of life you can apply these 3 strategies and yield success. . . As always.
