Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Bolton was raised in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she graduated from Tupelo High School, and earned her undergraduate degree at Mississippi University for Women in 1985, majoring in biology and physical science. She earned her medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Memphis in 1996.
Dr. Bolton worked in the field of cytogenetics at the University of Tennessee, and in several research laboratories at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She completed her family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in 1999. In addition to her private practice at Bolton Family Medical Clinic, she is the associate medical director for Southern Care Hospice.
Dr. Bolton has been practicing as a family physician in the Saltillo area for more than 14 years. She's married to a retired senior master sergeant in the US Air Force, Danny, and their son Ryan currently attends Mississippi State University.
