Let's talk about chocolate! Chocolate is a very common Valentine’s Day gift that we should be protecting our pets from. Chocolate contains a substance called methylxanthines which are found in the seeds of cacao seeds. When ingested symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, panting, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, seizures, excessive thirst and urination. When high levels of chocolate are ingested it can even cause death. If your animal ingests chocolate please give us a call immediately and we can calculate if it was a toxic dose and what plan of action is best for your pet. We are available 24/7 to answer any questions or concerns at 303-440-7722.
