Dear Bound Brook Community, I am very sorry to have to share the news that the Bound Brook Revitalization Partnership Board of Trustees has been forced to cancel the Halloween Trunk or Treat event. We received word from the Borough that based on the state of emergency they will not permit any Halloween activities in Bound Brook. This is disappointing to the BBRP as I am sure it is to you. Despite our best efforts to show how safe we could make this event for everyone it was still not enough.

Annual Ride With Santa Toy Run November 19 at 9:03 PM · 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. Many of us have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, making this year’s Ride With Santa Toy Run more important than ever. We share in your disappointment that due to Governor Murphy’s executive orders, we will not be able to hold our event in the traditional manner. The Bound Brook Revitalization Partnership (BBRP) needs your help with Downtown Bound Brook’s newest holiday tradition- decorating our Community Christmas Tree in Billian Legion Park. This very special tree is covered in sparkly white lights but it needs ornaments to make it extra special this holiday season. We have a selection of ornament kits and would like your help turning them into your own special creation for the tree. These kits are available at the Bound Brook Library on Hamilton Street. Please take one of the ornament kits, create your own special design, put your name on it, and return it to the library during open hours on Friday, December 11th. When you hand in your newly decorated ornament you will receive a jumbo peppermint stick straight from the North Pole! These kits were also made available during the food pantry held by the school district. If you picked one up there please be sure to bring it back to the school during the food pantry hours on Friday, Dec. 11th to receive your candy! Somerset County Prosecutor's Office December 3 at 5:36 PM · December 3, 2020 News Release BOUND BROOK RESIDENT INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED ARSON AND OTHER OFFENSES IN CONNECTION WITH THE BOUND BROOK MERIDIA II FIRE SOMERVILLE, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Bound Brook Chief of Police Vito Bet announced the indictment of Juan Hector Padilla, age 29, of East Second Street, Bound Brook, New Jersey, in relation to the seven-alarm fire that began at the construction site of the Meridia II building, located on East Main Street and Mountain Avenue in Bound Brook, New Jersey. The defendant was indicted by a Somerset County Grand Jury on charges of 2nd Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Aggravated Arson, 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault (for injury to a firefighter), and 3rd Degree Hindering Apprehension of Oneself. Prosecutor Robertson stated that on January 12, 2020, at approximately 7:53 p.m., the Bound Brook Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire at the Meridia II building located on East Main Street and Mountain Avenue. The Bound Brook Fire Department, along with thirty-six fire companies from Somerset, Middlesex, Union, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties., as well as the New Jersey State Forestry Service responded to the scene in an attempt to suppress the fire. Due to radiant heat and wind, the fire spread quickly throughout the building and to adjacent buildings located on Main Street. A firefighter was injured, suffering a sprained ankle, while suppressing the fire. Prosecutor Robertson stated that detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, the Bound Brook Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fire Investigation Unit, fire officials from Somerset County, and State and Federal investigators responded to the scene to collaboratively conduct the fire investigation. As a result of the investigation, a male, later identified as Juan Hector Padilla, was seen walking in the area of the Meridia II building several times leading up to the fire. Further investigation revealed that defendant Juan Hector Padilla was the individual responsible for the fire at the Meridia II building. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire was conducted by investigators. As a result of this investigation, on Monday, January 13, 2020, defendant Juan Hector Padilla was arrested and charged on a criminal complaint with 2nd degree Aggravated Arson and 3rd degree Hindering Investigation Apprehension/False Information. Based on subsequent investigation, the defendant was later charged on criminal complaints for Burglary and Aggravated Assault. He was indicted by the grand jury on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 on all charges. Defendant Juan Hector Padilla was lodged on January 13, 2020 at the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing. After a detention hearing on January 17, 2020, defendant’s detention was continued in the County Jail under an order of pretrial detention entered by the court. Prosecutor Robertson would also like to thank members of the Bureau of the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearm and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office that assisted in this investigation. Yesterday we asked everyone for their cooperation by removing all vehicles from all roads in town. A state of emergency was declared in town. We knocked on doors, made phone calls, used our lights, sirens, and PA systems. We have tow trucks in town and officers are out writing tickets. A lot of snow has fallen, DPW needs the roads clear of vehicles in order to safely and properly plow. Please, if you have a vehicle on the road, GET IT OFF NOW! In the declaration, NO PARKING ON ANY STREET WITHIN THE BOROUGH has been authorized. What does this mean? By 8:00 PM tonight, all cars on every street in town must be removed or they will be ticketed and towed. When a car gets towed, towing fees and storage fees are assessed on top of the ticket itself. We do not like doing this but have no choice, so PLEASE, remove all vehicles from all roadways. Residents are urged to use the commuter lot downtown as well as parking on your front lawn for the duration of the storm so the streets can get plowed. We are expecting another snow tonight which should last most of tomorrow. We hate it just as much as you, trust us! We are begging everyone to do your part to get ahead of this. If you have a car on the road, PLEASE park it off the road. If you live on any of the snow routes in town please remove your vehicles from the road before you lock up for the night. As soon as the roads listed in ordinance 7-10 are covered in snow, we will begin ticketing and towing. § 7-10 TEMPORARY PARKING PROHIBITION FOR SNOW PLOWING AND REMOVAL. Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated.The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. The History Girl March 17 at 4:00 PM · Today in #NJhistory: #OTD, March 17, 1779, "a pretty little frisk" was held at the Van Veghten House in the Finderne section of Bridgewater, #NewJersey. The house served as headquarters for Quartermaster Nathanael Greene during the Middlebrook Encampment in 1778-1779. From the house, General Greene wrote a letter to Jeremiah Wadsworth describing the frisk. He wrote that throughout the course of the evening, General Washington danced with Mrs. Greene "upwards of three hours without seting [sic] down". #SpreadTheHistory
