Serving the freshest Louisiana seafood, shucked oysters, and classic-cut steaks, Boutin’s showcases the type of cuisine that locals love to eat. Lafayette-based owner Lynn Boutin has been in the restaurant business for over 35 years. His love for Louisiana cuisine shines at this casual, family-friendly dining spot.
Popular starters include the Crawfish Wontons, stuffed with fresh crawfish, jalapeño, pepper jack, and parmesan cheeses, and served with plum ginger sauce; Stuffed Mushrooms, chockfull of crabmeat dressing and accompanied by house-made tartar sauce; and Steak Bites, tender steak tips prepared lightly fried or grilled with a side of garlic butter sauce for dipping. Oysters are offered raw on the half shell, Traditional with garlic butter and cheese, or Jacked Up with pepper jack cheese, bacon, and jalapeño. House Specialties include Bayou Boutin – seasoned grilled fish filet topped with crawfish étouffée; Crawfish Enchiladas – a spicy blend of cheeses, crawfish, onions, and peppers, topped with Cumin Mornay sauce, and Crabmeat Eggplant – fried eggplant medallions served Napoleon-style with grilled a crab cake, topped with creamy lump crabmeat Alfredo sauce.
On the Steakhouse menu are Cajun Style Ribeye, New York Strip, Filet, and Hamburger Steak topped with cheese, sautéed onion, and mushroom Cajun gravy – all served with Cajun rice, corn maque choux, and a homemade stuffed potato. Traditional Cajun fare includes Po'boys with fried or grilled shrimp, oysters, or fish served on homemade French bread, dressed with jalapeño mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. On the lighter side is the Zydeco Salad topped with grilled shrimp, blackened fish, or chicken and grilled andouille, and the Caesar Salad with grilled or blackened shrimp or chicken.
Be sure to save room for dessert – the bread pudding takes four days to make and is topped with homemade praline sauce. Or you can opt for personal-sized red velvet or turtle cheesecakes straight from Juniors in Brooklyn.
Open seven days a week, Boutin’s features a Lunch Menu serving reasonably-priced items including ½ Salad with a cup of soup or gumbo, Shrimp or Crawfish Tasso Alfredo, and Chicken Bayou Teche – pork-stuffed chicken breast with bacon Ro-Tel cream sauce served with fries and jambalaya. Sunday afternoons are for dancing with live music by the area’s best Cajun and Zydeco musicians. For delicious local food and live music, Boutin’s is the best restaurant to get a true Cajun experience.
