I drove to Louisville, KY to pick her up and while loading her on the trailer she threw me on my back and fell on me...literally on top of me. I should've known that this was a women who was all business. After the ER visit we've had a successful business relationship. She cranks out beautiful rolls of film as long as I keep her tanks filled and push her buttons ever so gently.

I picked up this pretty thing a few months ago as my first dip into medium format. Introduced in 1958, it’s a twin lens reflex, meaning you look down into the viewfinder on top to view through the top lens, while the identical bottom lens takes the picture. The process and viewfinder definitely take some getting used to. It shoots 6x6 square frames on 120 film, and this particular model has the unique ability to shoot 35mm as well with a conversion kit. The higher fidelity of medium format was immediately noticeable, and I look forward to shooting more with it.

Mondays bring a new beginning.
@rachel.larsen.weaver I’ve had a bit of existential angst this week.
I love making photographs but what’s the point? Who am I helping? What greater good does it serve?
You ever been there?
When I’m not feeling so angsty, I have answers to those questions. When the world feels a little calmer and my heart feels surer, I know that art and image and story, they matter. They can help and they can heal.
But even if they didn’t, even if they couldn’t, even if they are purely superficial and nothing we do “matters”, truth is I gotta spend my days some kind of way. And so I’d like to spend them making pictures. Because it’s what I love. Call me corny, but I love the gentleness of a young mama swaddling her fresh baby. I love the grain of film. The shadow and the light. I love it all.

Double Exposure shots take planning and thought. We love how @oceanfilly has planned out negative space with the ocean shot leaving room her portrait in the second image.
Lighting is the biggest challenge. You want to make sure that the second image is darker so it shows through. As you can see, double exposure photography takes planning and practice. Great work, Brooke!
