December birthstone Tanzanite is found only in the Mererani Hills of Northern Tanzania, near the city of Arusha & Mount Kilimanjaro in East Africa. It must be heated to 500°C to develop its blue color. It is rarely a pure blue color, & usually exhibits very rich purple overtones.
