So I haven't posted anything on this. I was recently contacted by a customer saying that they had recently lost a family member and that they needed help cleaning out her husband's lifetime collection of tools, and his mustang. Her husband was a mechanic all his life. Unfortunately prior to finishing the car, he unexpectedly passed away, never getting the chance to make a pass down the track with his car that he built. I made a promise to take it to the track and make a pass with it in his honor. I'm so glad that she was able to capture this pass in person at the track, as last night was the first time they allowed spectators due to covid. Garth Basehore piloted it down the track, Garth shares the same love for Fox Bodies as Michelle's husband did, so it was only fitting that he made the pass. RIP Darrell. I hope you got to see this from above! It was an honor to be involved in this.

This man and his staff went out of their way to help a complete stranger down on his luck, by covering all costs involved and the work done in less then an hour. I am completely blown away by his generosity and words will never do them justice. But thank you.

The engine isn't running right and brake problems. She's on a fixed income and has been in need of help for some time now. Dave never gave up. Well, I can definitely say 2021 has been off to a busy start! We are so incredibly thankful for all of our amazing customers. We have been absolutely swamped with work this week. We are currently booking out next week, as we can not take on any more work this week. If you are looking to get any automotive services done that need immediate attention, please let us know right away so we can get you booked in early next week.
We had our first Christmas Repair Giveaway person in today. We are so incredibly happy we could help you out Casey Covan ! Due to our super busy day, I was not able to draw up a total on the repairs today. I will update tomorrow with numbers, and we have another car coming in tomorrow to get done that I can include as well!

We had another one of our Christmas Giveaway winners in today! Angela Gray was one of our only entries that had MULTIPLE people recommend her as a recipient of the giveaway! Garth Basehore knocked out the rear struts on this Ford Taurus X. She was in months ago with major tire wear issues on the rear tires. She purchased new tires back in June but the repairs required were beyond what she could afford. The tire wear was associated with the failed rear struts that caused the tires to chop bad. Angela was so kind to buy us all enough lunch for the remainder of the week! It sounds as though through messages from others that she is already doing what she can to pay it forward! We have 2 more cars to go yet. It looks as though we will be calling more people due to the donations received!
We will also have a HUGE announcement Friday, So stay tuned! We had another Gracious donation from another customer today that asked to remain anonymous!

Special shoutout to Tyler Stover for saving the day. If it could go wrong yesterday, it did. Our programing box failed mid flash on this 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. (not good) I had been having issues with this J box and ordered a new one 2 weeks ago. USPS has failed us and currently our new one is somewhere in North Dakota buried 6 feet under snow apparently. So luckily I posted here yesterday to see if anyone had one that I could use for the time being. Tyler was able to get us fixed up!
What is a Jbox? The J2534 protocol is the communication protocol that the automotive industry adopted to flash emissions related devices such as your vehicles Engine control module, Transmission control module, Fuel pump module and many many more other modules.
Currently Independent shop owners are fighting for the rights to repair these newer cars. The auto manufacturers do not want us to remain relevant in todays auto industry. [The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, sometimes also referred to as Right to Repair, is a name for several related proposed bills in the United States Congress and several state legislatures which would require automobile manufacturers to provide the same information to independent repair shops as they do for dealer shops] - Wikipedia citation
Us as independent repair facilities have the burden of purchasing the diagnostic and programing equipment which is different for every manufacturer. Each manufacturer does theirs differently. GM for example requires a vin subscription that is good for 2 years, and is only good for that single vehicle. Chrysler however requires 2-3 separate subscriptions depending on the vehicle. All of these fees, and subscriptions add up. Every diagnostic tool we have requires a subscription of some sort.
We will continue to fight for our rights to repair your vehicles and continue to stay as up to date as it deems necessary.
The photo attached is a Topology view of all the modules in this vehicle that communicate over the j2534 protocol. Without the factory diagnostic tool, we would not be able to see how these modules all communicate as they have different can-bus circuits. This also shows us if there are module updates, or if they are not communicating correctly. This vehicle needed a new tcm. Without the factory tool, we wouldn't have been able to program this tcm to this vehicle and would have required us to take it to the dealer to have repaired.
We can do almost all major brands here in house with the tools we have (or will have whenever they show up). If you ever see a programing fee on your repair order, this explains why, as we have to pass these fees onto the customer to do these repairs.

Hey Everyone! I have been pretty absent on our regular updates here at the shop for the past few weeks! We have been down a Technician for the past two weeks due to health issues (NOT COVID RELATED) and have been very busy. I appreciate everyone's patients with my slower than normal response times to messages and getting quotes out to customers. Hopefully we will be back full swing by the end of next week!
I have several updates coming for everyone! I have listened to what our customers had to say in our surveys that were posted, and sent out. The feedback was extremely helpful in gauging interest in what our customers want. Getting an outside perspective on things really opens your eyes to areas that we can improve on and make things easier and more seamless! It is easy for myself, and the guys here to forget that we tend not to think like the average person. We are surrounded by what we do every day. We sometimes think what we know is common knowledge for the average person, and it's not. This applies to everyone and their trade! Stepping back, and getting feedback from our customers has always helped us see things from a customers perspective and allows us to continue to grow and give our customers what they want and need.
That being said, If you ever have a question about a suggested repair, any of our technicians or myself will gladly take the time to explain exactly what the reason is for the repair. We want customers to be able to make an educated decision on their own. We don't use scare tactics and we won't pressure you into doing something. We will however let you know if something is life threatening to yourself or others, or if the required repair will cause more issues if left unrepaired.

This Dodge gave us a run for our money, and by the sounds of it other shops as well. We had almost given up on this one, and had us all scratching our heads. The customer was complaining that it had no heat. Another shop had replaced the heater core and did a great job flushing the cooling system. These can be absolutely miserable to bleed sometimes, so we bled it to no end with every known possible way of bleeding them. We Finally got it to have heat after we switched the heater core lines around. We had amazing heat. It would cook you out of the truck. As soon as you would start driving it down the road, you would loose all heat. Brought it back in, bled it again, have amazing heat, drive it, loose it again. Nothing was making sense. We spent 20+ hours trying to figure out what was wrong with this truck and probably 55 gallons of antifreeze later.
We had suspected that it had a blown head gasket, but when we did the gas test on the cooling system, it would come up okay with no evidence of a blown head gasket. Finally after sifting through all of our resources, Dodge had a Head Gasket Check procedure. We had already done the chemical test, and the pressure test. This was our last option.
The procedure tells you to rev the engine to 3000 rpm 3 times. Following how they outlined still showed no issue. It wasn't until we put the vehicle into drive and did a brake torque that it reared its ugly head and blew coolant out like a fountain.
Sometimes there's no clear black and white answer. Luckily we were able to find the issue, and have a definitive reason for the air that kept entering the cooling system. This was hands down the most frustrating vehicle diagnosis we have ever had. What you would have thought was going to be an easy repair, turned ugly really quick. Thankfully these customers were extremely patient with us and allowed us to figure out and repair the issue.
A little while ago we had posted that we had a local family, and customer of ours donate a Dodge Avenger to us to give to someone in need. This was a spare vehicle that they no longer needed. We had become extremely busy and it was put on the back burner to keep up with our scheduled appointments.
The owner of Body Science Supplements had reached out to me about Cindi Loo Emrich after seeing a go fund me page for her that was created by a family member for her. Cindi is a Cancer survivor that had undergone 6 months of intensive Chemotherapy. Her family was struggling financially due to her being off work for over 9 months and having a boiler that had needed to be replaced. Cindi had taken her car in for inspection and she was told she needed $1800 worth of repairs for it to pass inspection. This was simply not possible for her. Skyler from Body Science reached out to me asking if we would fix her Murano for her and he would cover the bill. This was the initial plan until Cindi brought us the car and we got it in the air. She was living on borrowed time. We have never seen a rear subframe that was so rotted. The control arm mounts were pulling out of the subframe causing the rear tires to tow out so bad that it ate the inner sides of the tires right off. After a very quick check over of the vehicle, there were many more issues that needed addressed. There was a drivers front CV axle that was bad, The power steering rack had a pretty good leak that was about to become a much bigger issue, and a valve cover gasket that was pouring oil down the back of the engine. Once we started looking into replacing the rear subframe, we started to realize this was going to be more than just a subframe. Anything that was attached to it was going to need replaced as well. There wasn't a single bolt that was going to be reusable.
After Consulting with Skyler at Body Science and letting him know that we believe the repairs were going to exceed the value of the vehicle we didn't want to leave Cindi high and dry. I talked to Cindi and let her know about or findings. Unfortunately she bought this from a local car lot 2 years ago that told her that it was a one owner car that was garage kept. The underside of this vehicle determined that's a lie. She still owes money on this vehicle, and there is no way she can afford a new one.
Today, we finally had a second to check out the Avenger. It needed a valve cover gasket, and routine maintenance but overall in pretty good shape. We have decided instead of putting it up for another Giveaway, We are giving this car to Cindi. We also told her to keep the money that was raised in the gofundme for other things that they may need. Next week Dan Oyler the owner of Classic Detailing in Cleona offered his services free of charge to do a detail on this vehicle prior to Cindi receiving it!
We thank everyone in the local community that continue to support what we are doing. We have an amazing customer base that help us do what we do. From the vehicle donations, to the free services to help us get these vehicles good to go for their new owner. It costs us a lot of money to do these types of things for our community but we love doing it.
Attached is just one photo that I had saved on my laptop here at home. That doesn't scratch the surface of how bad this rear subframe was.

I knew I had to contact her about a project in our office! I love walking in every day seeing that as a focal point for our customers to enjoy, especially our older generations who name off the cars in the painting, and the memories it brings them.

Looking for a great detailer? DriveOn Auto Spa & Coatings in Palmyra is your go-to detailer! I've used many local detailers over the years, and Drive on never fails to meet or exceed our expectations. I am no detailer, but I do know what to look for when getting a car done.
It took 3 days to do the Paint Correction and to apply the IGL Kenzo Coating on my 6 month old 2020 Silverado that has never been run through a touch car wash. When you are looking for a detailer, look no further. There are your every day detailers, and then there are the real deal. There's a reason people trust them with their $100K+ vehicles. An inexperienced detailer can spell disaster for your cars paint. Incorrect buffing methods will destroy clearcoat, burn though, or leave swirl marks. When you are buffing a car, you are actually putting the clearcoat into an almost liquid state to remove imperfections from the surface. Someone not knowing what they are doing can quickly cause major issues. This is exactly why I leave it up to these guys to do what they do!
I do plan on keeping this truck around for a while, so I had their top package by IGL done. It is the Kenzo Coating.

This past month has been extremely trying on my entire staff. Between being short staffed and an overwhelming amount of work coming in we have been doing the absolute best we can for our customers.
In the midst of our crazy week we had some absolutely amazing things going on that unfortunately we weren't able to announce like we typically do as we have been focused on keeping up with the demand.
This past Friday - Cindi Loo Emrich was able to come and pick-up the Avenger that we had given to her. If you aren't aware of the situation, feel free to sift through our other posts! We couldn't have picked a better person to help. She was completely overwhelmed by the support she has received and was at a loss for words. When we do these, their reaction is a clear indication of how deserving they are, and hers didn't disappoint.
Earlier in the day, we had a woman and her two daughters come in. They have not been customers of ours. She has seen in the local facebook groups such as the Hershey area mom's group, and the Friends of Hershey, and the Palmyra FYI page of what we have been doing for the community. She brought us all two gifts. The first was small gift with a big meaning. She gave all of my employees these socks that say "I am a hero". She went on to explain that she views us as a local hero to our community due to how we give back. This small gift speaks volumes, way beyond any monetary value. We are beyond humbled that people have recognized us as a local hero. We don't call ourselves heros. We like to be able to help the community that supports what we do. Also with this was a monetary donation to us of $500 that she asked us to use for the employees. I've personally decided to split that $500 between the 3 guys busting their asses every day to keep things moving, and working overtime. I am going to increase this to $900, giving each of the three guys in the back a $300 Thank You. She does not wish to be publicly named. Without my guys, Justin Large Dan Rider Garth Basehore and (Drew Spud Snyder who's been out for medical reasons) This all would not be possible. These guys have been extremely dedicated to their job, and our customers.
Thank you all. It is truly humbling to see our local community recognizing the things we have done for locals.
