🚨 The Insurance Council of Texas has said that last week’s storm “may be the costliest winter weather event in the state’s history.” Hundreds of thousands of claims are expected as a result of the storm 🚨
Unfortunately, there are those who would take advantage of others during these tough times. Most of us know them as storm chasers or roofing gypsies. They come in, do low quality work and run off with your money.
Here’s a few ways to protect yourself from these people⚠️
🟣 Check their business structure: LLC, LLP, CORP, check their business name with the Texas Secretary of State. If you can't find it, RED FLAG 🚩
🟣 Ask for proof of insurance. Also known as a Certificate of Insurance. If they don't have one, RUN 🏃🏼♂️
🟣 Ask for references along with photos of the work performed for each reference. Contact those references! Ask questions‼️
🟣 Contract. Contract. Contract. Don't allow ANY work to be performed without a contract. If they say they don't do contracts, RUN 🏃🏼♂️
🟣 Insurance experience. If they don't have experience working with home insurance companies, RED FLAG. A reputable contractor should be able to work with you and on your behalf with your home insurance claims adjuster.
⚠️ So many contractors will be slammed for the next several months, don't become desperate and settle for less than you deserve ⚠️
