For this year's Comic Book Competition we are drawing inspiration from James Foley's graphic novel series S.Tinker Inc and Sustainable Development Goal 13 - taking action to combat climate change.
The S.Tinker Inc series follows Sally Tinker, the world’s foremost inventor under the age of 12. The series is aimed at children, and features all of Sally’s amazing adventures in inventing – full of scientific silliness and innovation!

Each year thousands of Middle and High School students around the country enter the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and for nearly a century have inspired bold ideas in creative teens throughout the country. Notable previous winners of these highly coveted awards in both the art and literary fields are Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, and Stephen King.
This year, BISB's Art Department had 7 students from our Middle and High School submit work for this highly regarded competition. We are proud to be able to announce that our students won 5 awards:
Alma (Year 12, Grade 11) - Gold Key winner
Ingrid (Year 13, Grade 12) - Silver Key winner
Arabella (Year 12, Grade 11) - Honorable Mentions for her 3 separate artwork submissions
As a Gold Key winner, Alma's artwork will now compete at a national level. Winners from that level will be announced in March. Please join us in congratulating our students who have achieved so much, especially through such a difficult year.
Allies for Action is a student-run social justice group at BISB. Taking action to promote diversity, inclusion, equality, and justice for all throughout our community and school curriculum. Congratulations to Alma in Year 12 (Grade 11)
Alma has won a National Art award. This is a huge achievement!
The competition is the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards and previous winners include; Andy Warhol, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, Charles White and Tschabalala. This year there were 230,000 submissions nationally. The judges were some of the foremost leaders in visual and literary arts.
Alma not only won a regional gold key, she has now won a further 2 awards.
-Best in Grade - only 2 of which are awarded for each grade
-Gold medal
This means she is in the top 1% of the submissions, only 24 national awards were awarded overall. Usually, winners would receive their award at Carnegie Hall in New York City, however, COVID has shifted this to a virtual ceremony. #BISB #BeAmbitious
