Today our residents enjoyed an informative Zoom travel talk to Jerusalem! Our three speakers were live in Israel conducting the amazing tour. The topic was Jerusalem- City of Three Faiths. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all consider Jerusalem to be central to their respective faiths. Jerusalem is the home of numerous holy sites, that are the focal point to three different religions. For generations, followers of these religions have descended on the city in order to explore their roots and deepen their faith. We are looking forward to the next virtual travel experience!

Not only is live music provided, but they highlight a famous composer, musician, dancer, or actress with trivia, and photos along with rare videos are sometimes shown. This past Wednesday they highlighted legendary composer/conductor and pianist Leonard Bernstein. One of our very own residents photographed this legend many times throughout his career. Our residents enjoyed an informative Zoom talk live from Israel today on the biblical roots of Jaffa and Tel Aviv! This session laid out the biblical foundations of these cities (the story of Jonah the Whale is but one of the stories that took place here) and their respective evolutions. This is of high interest to people of all backgrounds.

We are honored every month to have art educator Mark John Smith from the New Museum! Together, in today's zoom talk, we will be exploring works that are designed to evoke intrigue, scandal, and outrage. We ask - why provoke, challenge and make noise? This ground-breaking exhibition featured works from the personal contemporary art collection of Charles Saatchi and drew attention to a new generation of British artists, attracting both crowds, horror and controversy - including an impressionable 10-year-old Mark.

Our residents enjoy an informative zoom lecture live from Israel every month with Travelujah! Our next virtual tour on Tuesday, November 17th focuses on Masada and the Great Revolt against the Romans. This was the period after the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem.
Our residents were honored for Veterans Day with a small gathering to say thank you for their service in the military. The program was facilitated by Director of Resident Programs, Whitney and Programs Assistant Tere'. They also collected wartime photos of the residents for a touching display in the main lobby.

On Veterans Day we will be conducting a small service to say thank you to all of our residents and staff who served our country. THANK YOU!

Our residents are looking forward to a fun and informative virtual talk this coming Tuesday titled All That Glitters- The Fashion History of Sequins with an extended visit at Downton Abbey. From Leonardo DaVinci to Bob Mackie, where did sequins come from? A look at fashion from Ancient Egypt through the 1920’s, 40’s, 50’s up to the 21st Century. Broadway, Film and TV makeup artist, wig and wardrobe stylist Robbie Amodeo will be conducting the program. Whitney Glandon, Director of Resident Programs will be introducing him.

Vaccine day at Brookdale Battery Park City today! Everyone worked together to make it a smooth-running event. Tere' from the resident programs department contributed her professional DJ-ing skills providing fun music. There was even socially distanced dancing to lighten the mood led by Whitney Glandon, Director of Resident Programs, and lead Concierge Allison Bailey as residents entered the injection space. We can make anything a safe party at Brookdale BPC!
