The butterflies that we raised for World Alzheimer's Day have brought us so much joy! We had all expected them to take flight as soon as the nets were open, but we were so delighted to find that our butterfly friends wanted to stick around before finally staying goodbye!
With the first chill of fall coming in, we're having trouble saying goodbye to our insect friends. Since we've had to let our live butterflies go, assisted living has made some friendly insects that can last through the winter with us! Better yet, these friends are eco-friendly and made from upcycled egg cartons! π
It was so much fun raising butterflies and releasing them for World Alzheimer's Day! It was such a unique opportunity to be able to hold our butterfly friends before we set them off on their next journey. As the saying goes, "If you love something, set it free"!
On this lovely Thursday, our programs assistant, Esther, had a great idea to make Easter egg door wreaths π£ while we enjoyed an apple cinnamon roll cobbler along with it. π π₯§

We had an elegant evening paint and sip class where we painted an Easter Bunny Silhouette while sipping on some wine or nonalcoholic beer and listing to music π· . We also had a fresh snack of strawberries, watermelon and melon that we enjoyed with our friends! π π π π
We are always so thankful to Trader Joe's for the beautiful flowers they donate to us every Tuesday! π They truly brighten up our home and the faces of our residents! It's such a treat seeing the amazing arrangements that our neighbors create every week. We're always blown away by what we get! It's such a blessing on our snowy and rainy Wisconsin days when we can't be out in our gardens, but we're still able to work with something green π πΊ πΌ
We had a day dedicated to our sense of smell on Monday. For art we painted with spiced paints to engage a new sense while we worked! For our game we followed our nose and did a scent guessing game. Our smells ended up being lavender, apple cinnamon, tea tree, sandalwood, and orange π! Finally we ended the day with a travel club about India, a land of spices!
We've had such a fantastic St. Patrick's celebration week! On St. Patty's Day, we made a drink that several of our neighbors had requested, grasshoppers! It was a great arm workout for us to hand mix our milkshakes and we had a lot of fun picking out if we wanted Bailey's or Peppermint Schnapps in our shake! We also played a coin toss game, trying to fill up our own "pot o' gold". π°
The next day we made a blooming green drink of leprechaun green lemonade βοΈ (which was actually blue raspberry and regular yellow lemonade mixed together with the help of a bit of food coloring for an extra kick of color). We drank this while we sang Irish songs with our favorite musical therapist, Lisa!
On Friday we ended the week with a big Irish party! We had gold coin cookies, that we made by using gold food coloring spray to paint our cookies. We also drank up the rest of our leprechaun lemonade. Finally, we added a healthy green snack by making our own kale chips! Things are looking pretty green right here! π
