It’s not every day we have a resident turning 100! John, born September 17th, 1920, celebrated 100 years on Thursday! He received lots of love from staff and gifts from family members, as well as a party today! In addition to celebrating her birthday, our resident spotlight this week is Arlene! She and her family are the proud owners of a La Crosse staple, Schmidty’s! Their restaurant has been in the family for 65 years!
She and her husband bought the bar in 1955 and moved from a farm in St. Joseph’s ridge. Schmidty’s started as a small bar, added a dining room in 1958, and enlarged the bar in 1965. They did a full remodel in 2000 for a new kitchen, added party room, and a new bar. Schmidty’s offers a full line of steaks and seafood and built their name on home-style meals.
In La Crosse, Schmidty’s is SO much more than a bar, it’s a place to meet old friends and to make new ones. Thank you, Arlene, for you and your family’s contribution to our greater, La Crosse area!

We said goodbye to Covid-19 yesterday as residents and associates received their first vaccine at our facility clinic!
Residents were eager to keep weekly Bingo going earlier this week - even from the hallway!
Happy Friday! Our dining staff worked hard to keep up spirits while residents are in quarantine. Our lunch carts were decorated for food delivery, a snack cart and hydration station were sent around, and happy hour drinks were served room to room with music! One of our cooks, Emily, even got creative with a doily to hang in the windows of one of our residents.
One of our dining room servers, Mercedes, from another Brookdale community has gotten her COVID-19 vaccine. She did it to protect everyone around her!
