We had another fantastic Friday again! What better way to get into the fall spirit than a Caramel Apple Bar π π π π Our Residents picked their favorite toppings for a delicious midday snack. Pictures say it all!
How about an edible craft? That's exactly what some of our Assisted Living residents created! Munchkin "acorns". They each had their own craft station, pumpkin spice munchkins, chocolate frosting, pretzel sticks, and sugar sprinkles...needless to say, the "acorns" disappeared soon after being made - YUMMY!
As a caregiver, you may often put other peopleβs needs ahead of your own. While you're going above and beyond during this uncertain time, itβs important to take care of yourself. Burnout can interfere with your ability to provide crisis support during a natural disaster or in times of stress and anxiety. To be an effective caregiver, start with giving yourself some love. This is Diane, a new resident here at our Brookdale Lisle community. Diane took a little walk down our Scarecrow Trail to vote on their favorite scarecrow; tough choice all are great! Final decision made, ballot is given to our Resident Services Director, Emily. WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME DIANE!
Showcase Sunday this week: "Art in Times of COVID". We asked residents to share their artwork, passion, or hobby (basically what kept them from going crazy during these "lock-down" times). We are in awe of their talent!!! Every piece in this display was made by a resident β paintings, sculptures, embroidery, etc. Please like and share with others the wonderful pieces made by our residents.
Another Fantastic Friday in the books! This week: Breast Cancer Fundraiser with pink lemonade and mini cupcakes made in our Brookdale kitchen. Vicki (Associate Executive Director in pink and black) and Molly (Marketing Director, in pink sweater) are 2 amazing survivors. Thanks again to Department Managers (Tony, Director of Maintenance; Vicki; Lucy, Resident Programs Director; Emily, Resident Services Director, and Esmeralda, RP associate) for coming together to make these Friday events great! A BIG THANK YOU to residents for their donations and participation in all our events.

Our Marketing Department organized a Scarecrow Trail Walk event with the management team, where the signed-up visitors received a ballot to vote for their favorite scarecrow; they will be tallied with our residents to pick our 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places. Once again, teamwork creating fun memories!!!
As promised on Saturday, here is the "after" of our Scarecrow Trail. They've been all set-up and ready to be viewed. Thank you Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana for making our gazebo path Halloween ready!!! Please drive by, or take a walk by the pond to enjoy our Scarecrow Trail.
Another masterpiece from our master woodcarver, Shelly! This Cornucopia was made specifically for this Thanksgiving holiday and it is proudly on display in our atrium, along with some of his other pieces. As an interesting detail, each figure is made of a single piece of wood - amazing!!

Fantastic Friday Game & Puzzles Day was all about back to basic fun and entertainment - board games, cards, puzzles, etc. add to that snacks and pop for an ideal game night!!! A big thank you to Joanne, from Brookdale Hospice, for dropping by to help in today's event.
Today our community hosted a "Meals To Go" event - our chefs prepared a delicious full Thanksgiving dinner and hot apple cider. The entire leadership team was out greeting and handing out the meals and drinks.

Fantastic Friday turned into Super Bowl Friday! Lucy (Resident Programs Director) and Ezzy (Resident Programs Associate), delivered mini "Pigs in a Blanket", Pretzels with Cheese Sauce, beer or soda in football snack bags; all prepared at our Super Bowl Station to keep them warm.
We have a small treasure in our kitchen - OUR VERY OWN SMOKER! Dining Manager, Gene, was kind enough to show me the process of our homemade smoked pork (which will become a delicious "pulled pork"), One of our cooks also prepared "Pig Shots"; we have before and after pictures of these. Our Execitive Director and some of our Management team had the difficult task of going through the taste test...YUMMY!!!
It's hard to believe we are now in February! Of course, we need to bring some cheer and smiles to our amazing residents - a small way to do this is though our window display and this month it's all about VALENTINES DAY! We hope the pictures bring smiles to you as well. β€οΈ π π π π
When Bill and Louise began considering senior living options for Bill's sister, Pam, the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine became a major point of interest for their next steps. Now, after receiving the vaccine and transitioning to her new community, Pam is an official resident of Brookdale Cary.
