We tried something new and tried creme brulee for a change!
To commemorate Roald Dahl's birthday, we re-enacted unwrapping Wonka Bars to reveal five golden tickets. The residents unleashed their inner children. The five lucky winners were Bonnie, Rosemary, Wanda, Calvin, and Margaret.
It's a 3-in-1 celebration this week. First up is National Assisted Living Week. Suncrest Hospice sent a lemon swirl cake for our associates. It's also Alzheimer's Awareness Week. We posted information about Alzheimer's all around the facility. Our Resident Program Director Mae led the tour with the residents and elaborated on the bullet points. Finally, Hispanic Heritage month started this week too. We had a quick quiz to test our residents' knowledge on Hispanic culture. Twinkle, Doris, and Bonnie all tied for first Place. There's also a triple tie for second place - with Joane, Jeanne and Marge (not photographed) bagging the llama pinata.
Thank you to family members for sending video greetings to your loved ones on Grandparents Day. They were deeply moved. We also extended our appreciation for them by handing out trinkets to remind them of how special they are to us. Quoting Doris, "You do not have to be blood-related to be family."
We sure love Bingo. Once in a while, we play what we call Bingo Bonanza. On those days, everyone goes home with a prize!
Shout out to Ronnie for chopping her own hair. She can be her own stylist. It also started snowing here. Time for our residents to bundle up.
Thank you to Anna Marie of Walmart Vision Center in North Longmont for sending us a care package that contains eyeglass cleaners, a deck of cards and puzzles. Here's our model John with said items.
As we return to the dining room for meals, we also resume communal birthday celebrations. Happy Birthday, Ronnie! Thank you for "literally" celebrating with us.
To celebrate National M&M Day, we handed various flavors of "chocolate that melts in your mouth, not in your hand" to our residents and associates. We also had a mini-game of asking each other a question based on the color of M&M that they got.
Check out C'ebrina and Talon playing with the leaves and take a virtual tour of our fall indoors. 🍂
We brought the fall leaves inside our community. We plastered different shades of leaves on our walls for a fall foliage look. Some of them even fall off, thus giving off an even more autumn vibe in our community. 🍂
We tested our residents' spelling skills by asking them to take a stab at SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS. Mary Poppins would be proud of Joan and Marge. They were THIS close. They both misspelled just one letter. Shout out to all the residents who participated.
Corn Hole is about concentration and the flick of the wrists.
We honored our veterans Harold, Calvin, and John by treating them to a lunch provided by Aunt Alice's Kitchen and handing them goodie bags for their service. The rest of the residents had Wendy's. In the afternoon, we made customized hearts and put them up on our craft wall.
Since it's cold outside, we played golf indoors.
Who said you could not celebrate National Deviled Eggs Day and Dia de Los Muertos together? We sure did!
We had a heck of a Halloween celebration. The residents were engaged in a couple of haunting huntings (scavenger hunts), gathered treats from the tricks we prepared for them, and snacked on caramel apples. Mae and C'ebrina also donned different costumes for each day of the week.
For our Halloween parade, the ladies dressed up to the full moon's nines. Mae's Pennywise took first place and C'ebrina's mermaid was swimmingly second. Thank you to Tina for coming in as Cat in the Hat and Talon for imbibing her inner hippie.
We had a puzzle competition and Jeanne had the most number of pieces figured out in hers and therefore was declared the winner.
For our snacks, we turned to Turkish desserts and had our fill of Baklava. Thank you Amazon!
For our crafts, we turned to the Japanese culture and dabbled in origami. It was a great start but we had difficulty finishing the cube. Lois did though.
Happy Hour is our favorite hour. Whether we are serving margaritas or eggnog, salsa with dip, or chocolate chip cookies, the residents are happy! Check out those big smiles.
The 6-feet apart rule will not prevent us from playing Scrabble. We won't even let the 4-player maximum stop us from having 7 players either.
Are you right-brained or left-brained? We printed an image of a pair of sneakers from the Internet and asked residents and associates what color they saw. Those who made out pink and white were right-brained and those who perceived green and grey were left-brained. Turned out we had more logical (left-brained) than creative (right-brained) in our community. Then there's Twinkle, who saw both.
