📌 Hurricane Isaias Update 📌 We are monitoring the storm and have a detailed emergency preparedness plan in place to try and address all aspects of an emergency situation. Our coastal communities are equipped with water, food, onsite or ready-to-deploy generators, and supplies, including an adequate supply of face coverings, hand sanitizer and disinfectants to care for residents. Our primary goal is to help ensure the ongoing safety of our residents. At this time, there is no call for evacuations. We are taking appropriate actions to keep residents safe throughout the storm and following the guidance and direction of authorities when it comes to potential evacuations. We will update our Facebook page with any necessary updates regarding the status of the storm. Thanks to our volunteer and family member, Melanie, residents got to create the cards Mel so lovingly does with them. We were so excited when our “card kits” were dropped off, we got right to it! Aren’t they lovely? It was great to be able to do this. And it brought the residents closer to Melanie, doing something they always enjoy doing with her, even though she couldn’t be here this time. Thank you, Melanie, for all you do, even during these trying times!

Nothing says fall like the wonderful aroma of apples and cinnamon baking in the oven. We made a simple and yummy apple crisp today and thought you might want to join us! Here is the recipe and step-by-step pictures for you to follow. We hope you enjoy it! What you’ll need: 3-4 medium-sized apples (any kind) Cinnamon 1 box of white or yellow cake mix 1 can of crushed pineapple 1-1.5 sticks of butter 1 9x13 pan Steps: 1. Peel & slice apples and cover the bottom of the pan. 2. Sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon over the slices. 3. Pour crushed pineapple (with juice) over apples; spread evenly. 4. Pour dry cake mix over the top and pat down evenly. 5. Slice thin pads of butter and cover the entire pan. 6. Place in the oven at 350 degrees for around 45 minutes or until brown. 7. Have a cup of coffee or tea while talking with friends. 8. Listen to everyone “ooh” and “ahh” as you pull out your masterpiece to cool. 9. Have a piece. 10. Make sure to not leave a single crumb behind on your plate! Let us know if you’d like us to share more recipes!
It may only be November but the elves at Brookdale MacArthur Park have been busy creating initial ornaments and such for our annual holiday fundraiser, benefitting Alzheimer’s research. Aren’t they doing a fantastic job? If you would like to place an order, you can either call our community and ask for Jackie or send her an email at jlevy@brookdale.com Our price is simple: whatever you are able to donate! Thank you all in advance!
It only takes one strong pebble to start a good ripple in the water that could stretch across miles or, in Helen’s case, years. Many moons ago, our Helen, who has always loved dancing, started the Caryliners. This is a group of women in their “golden years” that traveled around Cary and other neighboring towns to bring entertainment and smiles to various communities with their line dancing. They were always a favorite at Brookdale MacArthur Park, as we had them here at least twice a year! Even though Helen has hung up her dancing shoes, and the other Caryliners haven’t been up to their usual schedule, the women were determined to bring a smile to their mentor’s face with a performance, just like Helen has done for years. It was so emotional and beautiful to watch. Helen had tears of joy in her eyes. As each dancer took a moment to thank Helen for all she’s done personally for them and conveying their love to her, there wasn’t a dry eye left on our porch! We would like to thank the Caryliners for the magic they brought us today, especially Helen.
Happy Halloween! The ghouls just wanna have fun at Brookdale MacArthur Park! Stay safe, and don’t eat too much candy this weekend!
Behind the scenes at Brookdale MacArthur Park! Every day, the staff has a chance to earn Cornerstone Cash for going above and beyond. They can save up these dollars to use for our quarterly auction. The prizes for the auction can run from laundry detergent to a TV! This makes training a lot more exciting. Congratulations to all the staff who won prizes this month! We would also like to congratulate Taiwo who was chosen as October’s Everyday Hero. She is a Med Tech/Caregiver on the 3rd shift.
Happy Halloween! To keep within the guidelines of safety and still enjoy having trick or treaters, we had a Halloween parade! These pictures will be shown to our residents on a big screen this week, so that they may enjoy seeing how wonderful the children looked and how thrilled they were to receive the goody bags the residents made!

When Bill and Louise began considering senior living options for Bill's sister, Pam, the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine became a major point of interest for their next steps. Now, after receiving the vaccine and transitioning to her new community, Pam is an official resident of Brookdale Cary.
Rosa is proud to have been able to receive the COVID-19 vaccination! Way to go, Rosa! 🎉 #BrookdaleHope
We didn’t get around to making Kugel for Hanukkah last month, so we jumped on that task today! This picture was taken seconds before the last 3 pieces were gobbled up! It’s safe to say that it was a hit! If you’re unsure of what Kugel is, it’s a noodle pudding mostly made in the Jewish culture. It’s a lot like rice pudding. However, unlike rice pudding, Kugel requires cream cheese, sour cream, and cottage cheese to be mixed in with your other typical ingredients. And you know what? It’s delicious!
One of our dining room servers, Mercedes, has gotten her COVID-19 vaccine. She did it to protect everyone around her!
