Getting our community decorated for Fall this week, we all got a carried away with silly fun.
A huge thank you to the ladies of the Lucy Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution and to the students from Highland Local Schools for the care packages made for our Veterans. So very thoughtful!

Happy Veterans Day to all of our veterans and spouses who have sacrificed for our freedom. We salute you!
Special thanks to the Mount Vernon Rotary Club, Lucy Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, Highland Local School District, Brookdale Hospice, and Kindred Hospice for making this a special day.
Experts agree it’s best to teach your brain something new every day! Mary and the rest of the crafters at Brookdale Mount Vernon spent time learning how to make soap today. Most who participated had never made soap before so it was a great make and take project. Mary’s soap smelled like grapefruit. Yum!
Join us in wishing a very happy 95th birthday to our gorgeous gal, Belva! She was surprised with a virtual birthday party from all over the United States that included her adorable two week old great-great grand daughter!
When Bill and Louise began considering senior living options for Bill's sister, Pam, the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine became a major point of interest for their next steps. Now, after receiving the vaccine and transitioning to her new community, Pam is an official resident of Brookdale Cary.
Brookdale Mount Vernon experienced a lot of beautiful occasions this week. CVS came for their 2nd visit to administer Covid-19 vaccines to our residents and associates. We surprised Kim, our Resident Programs Coordinator during National Activity Professionals Week with a lot of love and appreciation. We were also surprised with beautiful homemade gifts from a family friend, wanting to bring a smile to our residents faces. Every day we are reminded of what truly matters. Every day, we choose love.
Our residents really stepped up their game this year with Brookdale’s signature “Grow Your Brain” program. Elinor, Pat, Colleen, and Elda joined forces this year to give back to Mount Vernon residents by sewing, crocheting, or knitting over 50 hats, scarves and headbands to be provided to homeless or less fortunate folks in need. Local area churches and non-profit organizations assisted us in being outreach partners. Together, we can make a difference!

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
