Recently and just for fun, we created these nifty little hand-drawn postcards to reach out to family and friends! The residents told us what they would like to say, and we created each with a personal touch. Here we have Judy who loves to play cards, Ruth who enjoys cats, Frances who loves the sunshine, and Alice who just loves all things Florida!
Everyone is celebrating ALF this week, so what a surprise when our Health and Wellness Coordinator, Stephanie, organized special little gifts to all of our residents and associates! Here at Brookdale Port Charlotte, we are staying busy with virtual and window visits for our residents to interact with their family members throughout these unique times. It is important for families and friends to keep contact and communication consistent as this correlates with a sense of purpose in our lives! Some people believe it is only through our careers, spirituality, or other choices that we determine our purpose but the roles we keep throughout our lives in the life of another is truly what gives us that sense of purpose we are all looking for! If you would like to chat with your family member or haven't yet heard of our program tablets are available for residents to use during virtual visits and if you'd like to schedule a window visit contact us at: Brookdale Port Charlotte main line (941) 743-9300.

Recently for fun, we did a freestyle abstract art session. The residents picked something they would like to paint in nature and learned that when creating art, we are always creating an abstraction of reality because creativity is always through our own vision. Judy chose to call her painting "A Bird of Paradise Flower" and Louis chose to call hers "A Fall Scene". The expression of our creativity keeps the heart and mind going simultaneously. Thank you for your fearless creativity to all our residents who joined in on the fun.

We had a nice social hour this week with an apple spiced pomegranate Sangria. This Sangria is prepared with Pinot Grigio, schnapps, fresh pomegranate, pear, apple slices, and orange slices. We then add in our cinnamon sticks which are also prepared ahead to give it some spice! Finally, we top it off with tonic water or Sprite to taste. The residents also enjoyed intellectually stimulating Trivia. Thanks to all who came!
We played an awesome game of “Stay Away” and also used "name that tune" as a way to stretch our cognitive abilities, multitasking, and memory all while getting a little physical activity!
