Our nurse has decorated a beautiful Fall Gratitude Tree. Residents have discussed some things that we are grateful for such as health, family, and each other. What are some things for which you are grateful?
Brookdale Shelby has continued enjoying Fair Week. We finished with chili dogs with malt vinegar, funnel cakes with fruity or chocolate toppings, beef nachos, and buttery popcorn. Life is more fun at the fair!
Every year Brookdale Shelby visits the Cleveland County Fair. This year has challenged us to be more creative. Brookdale Shelby associates have all chipped in to bring the fair to our residents. All week we are seeing, tasting, and smelling the fair. We had cotton candy, burgers, fried pickles, cheesesteak sandwiches, corn nuggets...and we are not finished yet. There have even been some unusual farm animals sighted around the building.
We want to welcome a new Sales Manager to Brookdale Shelby. Brandi is a LPN and has had previous sales experience. We are excited to have her as part of the team. Welcome, Brandi!
While this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s events will be different, they continue to be deeply meaningful. They continue to help raise awareness about the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. They continue to help raise funds that make a difference in the lives of those facing Alzheimer’s. Brookdale Senior Living Inc. continues to be one of the largest corporate supporters of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Again we are so very grateful for our dining services department at Brookdale Shelby. Our Head Dining Service Coordinator, Annette, and our Executive Director, Sharon, treated the department to a very special luncheon for all their hard work. They had snow crabs, corn on the cob, shrimp and potatoes, and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. We are very grateful for our dining service department!
We had a wonderful Veterans Day yesterday honoring our men who have served so sacrificially. We had a special meal of cubed steak with gravy, slaw, buttermilk biscuits, southern green beans and lemon glazed pound cake. Thank you for your service!

Now, after receiving the vaccine and transitioning to her new community, Pam is an official resident of Brookdale Cary.
This week at Brookdale Shelby, we’re celebrating National Activity Professionals Week honoring Christina, our resident programs coordinator. Christina has been an employee of Brookdale Shelby for 8 years. She brings joy, enthusiasm, excitement, energy, and a special spark to our community and our residents! Christina demonstrates the Brookdale experience daily in our community amongst our residents and her colleagues. She always finds a way to say "Yes!, "Thank you!", and asks "What else can I do for you?". Christina goes over and beyond the call of duty to support our residents and their families. She is creative in her approach to coordinating resident engagement and she utilizes each resident’s gifts and talents to support them in living their best life. From dressing up in costumes, celebrating birthdays and special occasions, discovering their life story, cooking some of their favorite dishes, gardening and so much more, Christina is enriching the lives of those we serve. Christina, you are a gift. WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOU!
This month's Everyday Hero is Patty Morrison. Patty has been a faithful employee of Brookdale Shelby for 14 years. She serves as our Resident Care Coordinator. Patty is a servant leader as she always puts our residents first and goes over and beyond to provide exceptional care. Patty serves with passion, she is persistent, and she strives to help our residents to have a greater quality of life everyday through enrichment and encouragement. Patty adds value to our team and she is an outstanding team player. We are so fortunate to have her as our Resident Care Coordinator and as a loyal member of our Brookdale Shelby team!
