Today is National Taco Day so this past Friday at our farmers market we surprised our residents with a taco bar and margaritas! One of our residents Carroll heard us talking about tacos and couldn’t wait to get a taco and margarita!
A special thank you to our Resident Programs Assistant Judy, who you can probably barely recognize in all her gear. She has helped in so many ways during this transitional time including sitting at our screening desk for hours, delivering fruit and other goodies to residents, as well as creating individualized projects for all the residents!

When she was sixteen years old, her grandmother took her to Washington, D.C. for a three-week tour of our nation’s capital...a memorable event in Jerri’s life.
Jerri loves organizing and volunteering. She set the record for her work at a Jacksonville hospital...40,000 hours of dedication! Here at Brookdale, she serves on the Dining Room and Hospitality committees. When she is not helping people, Jerri can be found looking for a bridge game!
Jerri says her marriage of almost seventy years and her two children have been a major factor in her happy and successful life. Thank you, Jerri, for all your contributions.

Here at Brookdale Southside, we have so many residents that have served our country, so we made a veterans wall for the month of November to celebrate them. Bill, one of our independent residents is the oldest living WWII veteran in Jacksonville and is turning 103 in January. Thank you for all your services!

Happy Birthday to one of our independent residents birthday, Bill, turned 103. Bill has three children: two sons and one daughter, he is blessed with twelve grandchildren! He spent 36 happy years as a high school music teacher in New Jersey. Though he played a variety of instruments and wanted to become a concert vocalist, it just wasn’t meant to be. The avocation that he loved was building houses. Bill’s most memorable experience was his four years of military service as a radio chief. He served in Iceland and was part of the June 6, 1944, invasion of the French beaches. Bill's philosophy of life focuses on the idea of when something needs to be done, do it! What a wonderful experience speaking with this vibrant, enthusiastic American hero!
