Cynthia was the asset manager for many of our residential properties, with a particular expertise in affordable housing. We will miss her, but hope her well-deserved retirement is full of happiness and health ❤️

Congratulations to Towan Lofton, who won a WC Smith Excellence Award for Community Management at our 2020 Property Management Awards. Towan is a prodigal son, having left WC Smith for a while only to return to eventually take on Skylands Apartments, where he oversees 224 units and a small retail center and manages a staff of seven. He has skillfully handled diverse challenges, such as dealing with a thousand feet of underground piping and legacy lead paint at the property!
As we conclude our first-ever virtual PMA Awards, we want to extend a special congratulations to all of our award winners! We can't thank you all enough for all of your contributions to WC Smith. 😊 Over the next several weeks, we will individually recognize each winner's amazing hard work this past year.
We want to extend a special congratulations to WC Smith's Rhonda Mitchell and Lisa F. Smith, who were named Washingtonians of the Year by Washingtonian Magazine for their volunteer efforts behind Building Bridges to a Better Life (BBBL), a joint project of WC Smith and Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) that provides housing and wrap-around services to more than 70 previously homeless families who were displaced when the District closed the DC General Hospital and several motel shelters in 2018. Each week since March, Mitchell and Smith have also managed a food distribution operation at THEARC that provides critical food supplies to area residents who have been among the hardest hit by the COVID virus. We appreciate all of your diligent work in helping advance our DC communities! Congratulations to Julio Orozco, who won a WC Smith Excellence Award for Maintenance during the 2020 Property Management Awards. In the words of his asset manager, Julio "defines what a maintenance tech should be." Skilled at plumbing, carpentry, and electricity, Julio is dedicated to making our Hillside Terrace a top-notch property. The marketing team there notes that when he turns over a vacancy it always looks brand new. His "get-it-done" attitude wins praise from colleagues and residents alike. We appreciate everything that you bring to WC Smith, Julio!
Congratulations to Monique Kearney, who won a WC Smith Excellence Award for Maintenance during the 2020 Property Management Awards. Monique started as a custodian in 2017 but showed determination to learn maintenance. She would tag along after her cleaning duties were complete and acquired the knowledge and skills to fill an open maintenance position when it became available. Now she is the “go-to” maintenance tech for our Huntington Village property; as co-workers and contractors say, "Oh, Monique? Yes. She's good." Keep up the great work Monique!
Congratulations to Marquita Thomas, who won a WC Smith Excellence Award for Community Management during the 2020 Property Management Awards. Marquita is a "jack of all trades and master of all" in her roles at our Park Vista and 1320 Mississippi properties. On her own, she manages the day-to-day operations of the properties, from leasing to maintenance. And it pays off, as Park Vista has been the only affordable building among DC's top-10 properties recognized by J Turner Research for two years running.
Congratulations to Paulito Maslog, CPM, ARM, who won a WC Smith Excellence Award for Community Management during our 2020 Property Management Awards. Paulito is a long-time employee at 2M. He's adept at handling difficult conversations with professionalism and always maintains a positive attitude.
