A little Monday morning roll over collision. All parties involved are, thankfully ok.
While we're in the business of impounding cars, there is a huge misconception of how it happens. Burn's Towing or any other RTTO company can't just drive around and take vehicles. There is someone who authorizes the impound, whether it's a private property owner, police agency or business managent.
In this case there was a 3 vehicle collision and TPD authorized Burn's to clean up and impound all 3 vehicles, we hope everyone is covered with insurance, otherwise the R/O is stuck with the bill.
Did you know, without the proper insurance, if your vehicle is stolen or in an accident, you will be responsible for all impound and storage cost accrued?
It may not feel fair at times, but our company still goes out and does the work and the bills still need to be paid. Just like you wouldn't work for free neither do we, it's just business.
Talk with your insurance company, understand what your deductible is, always get under insured motorist on you coverage, that covers you when someone without insurance crashes into you.
For theft coverage, that typically falls under comprehensive. Double check with your agent, to make sure though.
Police agencies recover stolen vehicles all the time and they have RTTO companies, like Burn's Towing, impound them for safe keeping and with the right insurance maybe you don't have to worry about the bill. Without insurance the bill falls on you, the registered owner.
