Update for Patients of Camellia ENT: We are excited to announce that we went live with our new EMR system this week. With our patients’ medical records now in digital documentation, our patients will be able to access their records more easily through an online portal coming soon.
Because of this change, we are seeing less than normal volume of patients this week to ensure this transition is done smoothly for both our providers and patients. We do ask for patience and grace as we work to increase the quality of care that we provide at Camellia ENT. If you have any questions regarding upcoming appointments please call 337-993-1335. 👃 #DidYouNose: Your child's sinus drainage system does not fully develop until age six! This can cause bacteria to get stuck and ultimately lead to infections. To help keep your child happy and healthy, keep an eye out for these warning signs indicating it may be time to come in and see a Pediatric ENT Specialist:
• Nose bleeds (not from injury)
• Constant drainage of the nose
• Snoring (Snoring is not normal in children and should always raise a red flag)
• Sudden or progressive hearing loss
• Drainage in the ears
• Frequent dizziness

#HearTheTruth: It is a MYTH that hearing loss will not affect your overall health. 👂 Hearing loss has been linked to many other health conditions such as headaches, muscle tension, as well as increased stress and blood pressure levels.
If left untreated, hearing loss can also lead to depression, social withdrawal, and impaired memory. It’s important to get your hearing checked by a professional to ensure everything is in tip-top shape. Need to make an appointment? Click here: https://bit.ly/CENTRequest

#HearTheTruth: Even with mild to moderate hearing loss, hearing aids can make a huge difference! Hearing aids will allow one to listen with ease in many different sound environments.👂
This includes listening to the television, one-on-one conversations, or even hearing footsteps approaching. It also can strengthen the memory because when hearing starts to decline, usually the brain begins to as well. And trust us when we say, it’s likely many people won’t even notice you’re wearing them!

Difficulty hearing when in restaurants or watching a favorite show on TV and even loved ones around you can indicate some level of hearing loss. And if not treated early, more health conditions can arise like memory loss. 🧠 A recent study by JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery has found that if those who struggle with hearing loss would wear hearing aids, it cuts down their risk for memory loss by 78-88% 😲

That constant ringing in your ears isn’t the early arrival of Santa’s sleigh bells. It’s possible that it can be linked to a common problem called Tinnitus. 👂Tinnitus is not considered a condition or disease but is instead a symptom typically triggered by something bigger such as an ear infection, high blood pressure, or hearing loss.

It's that time of year again! Congestion season. 🍂👃 If you're looking for a more natural way to clear a stopped up nose, certain essential oils may be able to relieve symptoms of congestion. To enjoy the benefits, simply put a few drops of tea tree, eucalyptus, or peppermint into a diffuser with water
🍃 Tea tree or melaleuca oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
🍃 Eucalyptus oil helps clear the air of bacteria and other microbes. It can also help clear the airways of mucus and it is a natural cough suppressant.
🍃 Peppermint oil has a cooling effect when breathing it in and it may affect the mucus receptors in the nose, helping to open up airways.

That first sniffle or tickle in our throat of the season makes us always wonder if we’re coming down with something or if it’ll just last for a day or two. If the symptoms linger past that mark, here are a few questions you should ask yourself to make sure it’s not more than the common cold.👃
If the symptoms are in your head such as the eyes, nose, & throat, this could mean it’s just the common cold. If you experiencing those previous symptoms plus achy feelings in the whole body, it could mean you have the flu. If it’s centered in the chest, it could possibly be pneumonia. If a fever, chills, loss of taste or smell accompanies any of these symptoms above, you could have contracted COVID-19 and you should reach out to your health provider to see what your next steps should be.

😴 Struggling with sleep apnea often causes difficulty catching some Zzz's at night. Traditional treatments for sleep apnea include wearing a CPAP which many find uncomfortable to wear. If you're looking to reduce sleep apnea symptoms more naturally, we have a few home remedies you can practice:
1. Use a humidifier while you sleep. Dry air can irritate the body and a humidifier adds moisture to the air which can help open airways, decrease congestion, and help you breathe better.
2. Alter your sleep position. Studies have shown that sleeping on your back can worsen symptoms.
3. Lifestyle changes such as avoiding alcohol and smoking can encourage better sleeping habits. Both of these can create inflammation in the airways, causing sleep apnea complications.
4. Healthy weight loss. Obesity can increase the risk of obstruction in the airways. Reaching a healthy weight has shown to eradicate sleep apnea symptoms for some.
5. Since sleep apnea is associated with a lack of oxygen in your blood, regular exercise such as yoga can improve your oxygen levels as this exercise focuses on controlling breath intake.
If none of these tips improve your sleep apnea, request an appointment: https://bit.ly/CENTRequest or give us a call: 337-993-1335

#HearForTheFacts: Did you know that the structure of our inner ear not only helps us hear but also aids in keeping us steady on our feet?👂 Patients with mild hearing loss are three times more likely to fall than those with normal hearing and that risk increases with poorer hearing.

😴 For some, snoring occasionally due to nasal congestion, sickness, or other factors is harmless but for others, the loud, chronic snoring could be part of a larger problem. Read our blog to learn why snoring occurs in the first place and at what point it could be a sign of something more serious like sleep apnea --> https://bit.ly/3rKYSSk

Did you know that more than 27 million Americans have some sort of thyroid disease? About 13 million have no idea they suffer from a thyroid imbalance. Thyroid surgery, offered at Camellia ENT, is used to treat or rule out thyroid cancer, as well as to treat Graves’ disease, recurrent thyroid cysts, or symptomatic thyroid nodules. The 3 primary reasons to consider thyroid surgery include:
🔹A nodule that is potentially thyroid cancer
🔹A diagnosis of thyroid cancer
🔹A nodule that is causing symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or a visible mass.

She is a key player in the success of our office and we love having her on our team! Congrats, Cheryl, on 4 years. We love you!
#FunFactOfTheDay: Ever wonder why we say “God bless you” or “Bless you” when someone sneezes? 👃There are two origins that could potentially explain how it was started:
First, People used to believe a sneeze caused someone to expel their soul out of their body, and so the phrase was used as a protection against the devil snatching your soul.
Second, During the Middle Ages in 14th century Europe, the bubonic plague was widespread. Because it was usually a fatal disease, and people were often very religious, the phrase “God Bless You” offered a benediction to someone who might no longer be living soon.
Nowadays, it’s used more out of habit and to simply be polite to others. Which origin do you believe started this phrase we use so often?

Technology is an amazing thing, especially when it can help you hear better in all situations. 🦻 The ReSound ONE with M&RIE capability is the first hearing aid with three microphones, including one in your ear to use your ear’s natural ability to collect the information your brain needs to make sense of sound. It also gives you the ability to choose which sounds you want to focus on and can help you minimize background noise even in the toughest environments.
One of the biggest complaints we receive is not understanding speech in louder noise situations or understanding the TV. This program is designed to improve those listening situations! #InternationalCochlearImplantDay: When hearing starts to go, some can begin to withdraw from social interaction simply because it is a hassle to try to hear conversations and day-to-day sounds, even if they love being around others often. That was certainly the case with Ms. Claire Hollier, one of our patients who had a cochlear implant procedure done by Dr. Jimmy White.
"I knew that (her cochlear implant) had been turned on because my mother's face lit up like a lightbulb and I knew that she had heard what the audiologist said. It was the first time that she had that look in her eye for years and years." - Amelie Hollier, family member of Claire Hollier.
With her cochlear implant, Ms. Claire has gained so much more in life! She can now hear the television well, along with normal volume conversations with her friends and family members. We hope this social butterfly will continue to fill her schedule with things that make her happy. 🦋

"You will not find a more warm and personable staff than that of Dr. Foreman and his team. From my initial visit to my surgery post-op, and finally my cancer diagnosis I've felt cared for. Dr. Foreman and his entire team, from Morgan at the front desk❤️, his nurses, his office manager, even Lisa who's just there temporarily to scan charts, have made me feel like they TRULY care. Even the lady who takes my payment who I should not want to see! I'm on the anxious side and they've all strived to ease my fears and have been so supportive every single step of the way. I actually look forward to seeing these people when I have an appointment.
Dr. Foreman's disposition is laid back and funny and so calming and knowledgeable. Sometimes there's a wait in the office and it's because you'll NEVER catch them rushing a patient in and out. They take their time and focus on one patient at a time, resulting in the most thorough care I've ever received. Doc is, even so, patient with all of my anxiety-backed questions. Even with a cancer diagnosis, it brings me comfort to know I'll have this team behind me as we get rid of it. Love y'all. Thank y'all." - Tiffany S.

Ever get a whiff of gingerbread, close your eyes, and are instantly taken back to your grandma's kitchen on Christmas? 😋👃 Well, it could be because our sense of smell is directly connected to the limbic system. That's the part of the brain thought to be responsible for the attribution of emotions to particular events. What smell takes you back to your favorite childhood memory?

Meet Nicole, our Receptionist here at Camellia ENT! 🥳 She has been in the medical field for 25 years and we've been lucky enough to have her on our team for a little over a year now. She feels the most rewarding part about working at Camellia ENT is that everyone, staff and patients alike, are treated like family. When you find Nicole out of the office, you’ll see her spending time with her daughter Camrynn and their dog. They’ll most likely be listening to music and dancing, or chowing down on some delicious crawfish, boudin, or really anything that has some Cajun kick!🌶

Keep your ears #HappyAndHealthy with our new series where we will share FOUR tips to make sure your ears stay in tip-top shape. 👂
Our first tip is to avoid very loud noises as much as you can control. This includes wearing earplugs if you are around loud machinery or even loud animals, especially if it is on a daily basis. When listening to music with headphones, avoid keeping the volume turned up to the max as this can cause irreversible damage especially if done for long extended periods.

It’s officially springtime and we’re all about Savoring the Sounds of the Season! 🐦🌼 Between the birds chirping, bees buzzing, and the spring rain pitter-pattering. Take a moment sometime this week to sit outside and enjoy the sweet sounds that come with the warmer weather! Which spring sound do you love to hear the most?
Have you ever wondered if you needed to make an appointment with an ENT Specialist or an Audiologist?👂 Lucky for you, we've got the best of both worlds right here in our office but there are still key differences between the two that we explain, in detail, on our blog: https://bit.ly/2P6nhUa
Our second tip for #HappyAndHealthy ears is to keep them dry! With spring and summer right around the corner, many of us are ready to jump into the pool head first. 🏊🏻♀️ BUT it's important to remember to protect your ears to keep ear infections at bay. Also, try to refrain from using cotton swabs to dry or clean inside your ears as this could puncture your eardrum, shove the wax in further, and could even cause deafness. Instead, stick to cleaning the outward part of your ears to rid of extra moisture!
