Just another reminder to move over and slow down. On average there is at least one first responder or roadside technician killed everyday while assist motorist on the highway. Slow Down and Move Over so everyone can make it home at night. Council Bluffs Police Department August 19 at 6:33 PM · Have you seen all of the law enforcement vehicles on the interstate lately? Well, we joined forces with the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Iowa Department of Transportation to conduct a ‘Move Over Project’. The project goal was simple: to remind motorists to “move over or slow down to a reasonable and proper speed” when they see an emergency vehicle, maintenance/utility vehicle or stationary vehicle with hazards on the side of the road. (See Iowa Code 321.323A(1)(a) for more information about this law.) In the past year, a Council Bluffs Police car and a Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office car were struck by motorists in separate incidents on the interstate. The officer in the Council Bluffs cruiser suffered serious injuries during this collision. In the last decade, 126 officers were killed on duty when they were struck by motorists, which works out to be about 1 in 10 line of duty deaths. Highway workers suffer even worse with an average of 276 dying every year in the United States due to collisions. All of these can be prevented. Therefore, we do projects like this to help remind everyone to drive safely and please, move over or slow down. Thank you for your continued support!

Iowa Department of Public Safety December 29, 2020 at 3:15 PM · (2 pm) IF YOU CAN STAY IN PLACE, PLEASE DON'T DRIVE. As the snowstorm makes its way through Iowa, many roads are partially to completely covered with snow and ice. Blowing snow is reducing visibility. Several counties have towing restrictions in place.
