A message from your team at Cape Fear Animal Hospital: At Cape Fear Animal Hospital our mission has always been and will continue to be to provide the best patient care and client service. It appears that curbside service will continue to be the “new norm" for our hospital. That being said, we are constantly exploring new procedures to improve upon client/pet well-being, efficiency and staff safety. Now that summer is full on, we are planning a transition to drop-off appointments only. Our logic is, it will eliminate clients sitting in their running cars for sometimes an hour plus waiting on their pet’s appointment and checkout to be completed. Equally important, we can dramatically reduce the amount of time our staff is exposed to the dangerous heat. Over the coming weeks we will be calling and rescheduling the existing appointments to drop-off appointments. Details will be shared at the time we call. If we leave a message, PLEASE call back! We miss seeing all of your happy faces in person but until we are released to appointments in person, know that we are enjoying spending extra time with your pets while they are here with us for the day! What does a day look like for your pet while they are here with us? *Pets are triaged upon check-in. They are tucked into a kennel or run with blankets, water and a litter box if needed for their stay with us. *Cats are kept away from any barking dogs to help decrease stress from noise. *We offer fear free goodies to those who can have them – treats, peanut butter, baby food, tuna and marshmallows. We are using blankets that have been treated with a comforting pheromone for those who are nervous. ***If YOU have a peanut butter or seafood allergy- PLEASE tell us! *The medical staff will complete their exam and the treatments needed as soon as we can so that the Client Care Advocates can contact you to reunite you with your pet as quickly as possible. We know you are anxious to have them back in your arms. Each pet will be cared for by a designated Medical Care Team- a Veterinarian, Technician, Assistant, and a Client Care Advocate (Receptionist), unless visiting with us for a Technician Only Appointment. Please be readily available to answer your phone as your medical care team may have questions regarding treatment options. Each team will have an assigned Cell phone so that you may call or text the team directly. *If you are in need of an end of life appointment, PLEASE know we will be making exceptions for you and your pet. *For our Canine patients, we ask that you please pull to the side of our building as we are try to keep our pup patients as far away from traffic on Bragg Boulevard as possible. Cats may be dropped off in the front or side of the building, but please bring kitties in a secured carrier. If you are in need of food or medications for your pet, please continue to pre-pay for them over the phone (if possible) and let us know when you are here. Please park in front of our building. We are more than happy to run food and medications out to you. This has been working so well, that we have had many requests to continue this service long after COVID-19 is just a memory. * We will be closing from 12-1 daily for lunch in addition to our normal Thursday 12-2 closure for staff development. If you need to pick up food or medications during the lunch hour, please call us in advance. If you are choosing to take advantage of our online booking that is wonderful! Currently our online booking is disabled as we are working to reformat the system to accommodate drop-off scheduling. Once back online, please make sure you read the COVID -19 banners in RED. The time slots are NOT actual appointment times and that does NOT mean your pet will be seen at that time. The time slots are simply just the time we expect to see you to Drop-off your pet with us (basically so that we know you are coming.) We ask that you arrive at the top of each drop-off window (top of the hour), as the appointment slots are space holders in our Software system. If after booking your online drop-off you have questions about procedures, please do not hesitate to call us. We are here to answer your questions and guide you through the process. Prior to your pet(s) visit with us we will email you a Patient History form or the appropriate form for you to fill out in regards to what your pet is coming in for. If you have problems filling out the form, please call the hospital for assistance. We appreciate your continued patience and support as we continue to navigate the changes that come our way daily. Please also remember that we are doing our best to see everyone’s pet who is in need and we will give your pet the same amount of love and time as the one before them was given. We know you love your pets and we do too! We completely understand that this is not an ideal situation and anywhere near the normal way that we prefer to function-visiting with our clients and their pets in the lobby and exam rooms is what makes up some of the best parts of our day. However, for now, this is the safest for all of us. We will get through this time together and are right here in the trenches with you. We have such phenomenal clients and caring community- THANK YOU for choosing us to take care of your pets! Kindly, Your Family at Cape Fear Animal Hospital
