No detail goes unnoticed. Homeowners requested that an address stone be added to an existing pier at their North Shore Chicago residence. Getting to work, a Capital Stoneworks craftsman hand-carved all of the stone away, leaving raised numbers. Adding a low profile border to provide shadow lines and depth, the stone was brush-hammered for texture. Preserved as a national historic landmark, Fair Lane is the estate of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford and his wife Clara. Currently the preservation and conservation team at Fair Lane are hard at work bringing this residence back to life, restoring it to the look and feel of 1919, when the Fords first settled into their new home. Skilled craftspeople, artisans and historians are involved in every detail, from furnishings to textiles and other objects of the time.
