It’s 10 years this month since I signed on as the “new” owner of Carden Kennels”. This beautiful boy was here on my very first day. His owner was the first customer to shake my hand and congratulate me. This picture was taken Wednesday. 9/30
If I’ve known your dog for 10 minutes, I love your dog, that’s just who I am and how I ended up here anyway. But these dogs I’m going to share with you this month , that I have been so blessed to have you share with me, have had extra time to completely steal my heart ❤️

I didn’t get much for pictures while out running with the pups yesterday. But it’s super cute that Lottie has been with us so many times she knows a big blue bowl of fresh cold water is coming when we get to the Toyota (that blue cube just in the back is a fridge).

These are my attempts on 2 different weekends to get a picture with Boston! He is another guest who was here in my first month and he was just here this weekend. Boston is an occasional overnight guest and a nail trim dude. I just adore this old man 💙🐾
This is Shadow. I don’t know that I’ve ever called him just Shadow, he’s my “shadow dog”. Shadow was here this weekend and is among those dogs that were here in my first month (10/2010) too. Shadow was a regular daycare guest for a long time. His parents always left a cute note on the memo line of their check. The best thing about Shadow is he gives great big hugs. Even if you just hugged him a few minutes ago, there’s no reason not to have another hug 💙🐾
Extended hours available November 3. While early voting is available, if you're voting on November 3 and need some extra time we are going to open for arrivals at 6 am and stay until 8pm. Also for our currently enrolled daycare clients we are offering the overnight free with 2 days of daycare. So if you wish to vote early Tuesday your dog can come for daycare Monday, sleep over, go play in daycare Tuesday and you'll just pay for the 2 daycare days. Same thing for Tuesday stay over until Wednesday if voting later in the day suits your schedule best. There are no extra charges for any of this, just the regular daycare rate, but please do let us know if you'll be needing us and we will book you in.
This sweet lady has been a pleasure to have with us over the last 10 years. We have a lot of Bella’s but this sweetheart is my first Bella. First picture is last fall, second image is a couple weeks ago. Bella enjoys being spoiled with a Sunday brunch every weekend she’s with us 🐾🍁💙

My senior today is Rosie O. She started staying with us in June of 2010 and she’s just as zippy today as she was then. She is a challenge to get a photo of today but I assure you she is beautiful and such a joyful dog 💙

Today's prize in our 10 days of giveaways a 5 pack of walks! Our walks are one dog with one human so they can sniff and explore at their own pace.
Where do we go? We can walk on our property using both sides of Ohio St. Sometimes including the Bean Estates dead end road. In the winter we can snow shoe down to the Kenduskeag stream right from our door. We also utilize Brown Woods and Prentiss woods, both are City Forest trails and the Kenduskeag Stream trail.
You can add a walk service to your dogs daycare day, grooming day, (pre reserve so we can coordinate with your groomer for time), and of course boarding.

Lily! Lily! Lily Puff! I waited for today, Lily has a very important vet visit tomorrow so she and her owner can use some positive thoughts 🐾💙🦄
Lily is freshly groomed (the unicorn tail was a few grooms ago but it’s so fun I had to add it), Lily has been here longer than me. In fact when I arrived she was called lily puff and played in the “puff pen” which included Keegan, who was featured earlier this month, our Nikita and other huskies and Samoyeds. Making the entire group of “puffs”.

Was lost on the 47 Mile Connector Road between the Little Pillsbury Pond camp site and the 4 way intersection with the Telos Rd and the 522 Rd
A group of Bird Hunters from out of state stopped at the Telos Checkpoint this morning and left a message that they were missing a white English Setter bird dog. The dogs name is “Roller”. They lost the dog yesterday (October 19th), they looked last night and this morning with no luck. They will be staying in MA and will come back up to get the dog if it’s located.

This girl here, this girl has an amazing family, a fun sibling, a play yard here named after her, a play group named after her and the hearts of our whole staff. It has been my pleasure to care for our Tawny over the last 10 years and I suspect she likes me too 🐾💙
All this. I really enjoyed meeting Fern last Spring and find I agree with his stuff a lot. I read some, let's say passionate, comments recently on a hiking post about retractable leashes. But I will have my dogs on a nice secure 6 footer when we walk.

April is todays senior. I love her. This beautiful, nosy, affectionate beagle has been with me the whole ten years. She is a wise old lady now.
As it happens we have a super fun picture of the winner of our PUP-Grade! Congratulations to Eva Wagner and Theo! Theo will get to upgrade any boarding stay (up to 10 days!). AND we are very excited to announce that we have been working on the groom schedule and we now offer grooming services 7 days a week! We have Saturday appointments every week now and our Sunday appointments are available for boarding guests to get their grooming in. (Plus we did it while still making sure everyone has either Saturday or Sunday off each weekend and every once in awhile a whole weekend off too).
AND Leah has been released for full time work so her schedule has opened up a bit, this means we still have a couple openings before Thanksgiving and several before Christmas.

Dad! I got dog napped! We went to the bank and they gave me 2 cookies and I got all excited and ate the tan one, so Janet gave me the red one and I got all excited again but I didn’t eat it. But then I picked it up a few times and got it all spitty, then once the outside was good and smushy... I dropped it on her backseat! Then we went for a walkie walkie and I had the best time ever. Gotta go get in the tub now! -Bailey

We really get attached to your dogs. I also wanted to express a special thank you to Zoe’s family. (Black dog). Zoe’s family has taken in our foster dog (blond dog) who after many months with us was in need of a real home. These daycare buddies have made it a permanent thing. Good afternoon! I wanted to let you know that Chris and I will be on vacation all next week. We are not sick and not quarantined. I have taken only a handful of days off since March and due to a natural seasonal lull in boarding felt it was a good, and much needed, time to go. (We are traveling very safe, we are using one hotel with a kitchenette as home base and are hiking during the days. Very socially distant). We look forward to following the page too and seeing what all the dogs are up to and the beautiful grooms. Leah and Rachael are in charge and can help you with anything you need. Mackenzie, Missy and Jen have reception. Leah and Daisy are grooming. Rachael, Connor, Abby, Emily and Mackenzie are all on daycare. Plus Abby, Melissa and Kaylee have the evening cleaning and bedtime tuck ins. I already miss your dogs! See you in a week or so :)

I went on an adventure yesterday 12/11/2020 and got turned around from my home. I was picked up by the Bangor Police Department and brought to the shelter for warmth and safety. If you know who I am or know my family can you please help us find each other. The staff at the shelter have been wonderful to me but I miss my family. I was picked up on Sunset Ave, Bangor Maine.

Sometimes its the little reminders that make you cry all over again. Last night it was the delivery of Danny Boy's new dog tag and some treats for him from Chewy.com.
Most of you already know by now that we recently adopted an "elder" dog named Danny Boy. His own human had recently passed and Danny found himself needing a new forever home. And Carden Kennels who was caring for him in the interim knew that Danny played in the same play group as our Zoe Zoe and they knew that our home needed Danny there with us. So they coordinated the adoption (thank you Janet MacDonald Blanchard) ❤!
Danny Boy quickly grabbed our hearts and became an integral member of our family so when he became ill this weekend we were hoping it may be a touch of pneumonia but were devastated when the Emergency Vet informed us that he was full of lung cancer and would likely become progressively more uncomfortable and labored. The only humane option was euthanasia.
He died with us wrapped around him singing to him and scrubbing his fluffy ears.
What we didn't expect was the absolutely overwhelming (in a good way) love, support, and consoling words of encouragement that poured in. We realized quickly that Danny captured the hearts of all of our friends who followed his arrival at our home. So many of you were grieving as though he was your own ❤.
I recently posted a story about a woman who made a large donation to the Bangor Humane society of needed items in honor of her beloved dog who had passed. This inspired Carden Kennels and they agreed to allow Deanna and I to bring donations to them and once all collected they will transport to the Bangor Humane Society in Danny's name.
So I am asking that anyone who wants to... to look around your home for gently used/clean blankets, towels, sheets, pillow cases, baby blankets, soft cat/dog beds, canned baby food-meat based, kitty litter, cat carriers, paper lunch bags, peanut butter, paper towels or other usable animal supplies that may be taking up space, or grab a can of dog/cat food or soft cat/dog treats.....and if you work with me drop of at my desk. If you work with Deanna Ouellette bring to her at work. If you bring your pet to Carden's drop off to Janet in Danny's name.

We are adding snow shoe hikes and indoor agility time!
Snow shoe hiking most often goes on our own field across the road, into the woods and down to the Kenduskeag. We also like to utilize the Bangor City Forest trails.
We have cleared some space for indoor (non-competitive) agility. We have jumps, tunnels, an A frame, teeter board, weave poles and a pause table. This is agility for fun and exercise. Your dog will be focused, engaged and having a zoomie blast as we introduce new obstacles and then connect them together into patterns.
Each service is $20 for a single session or you can sign up for 3x week for $50 beginning January 4. You CAN mix hikes and agility into your 3. Spots are not limited yet, but we anticipate that happening in the future. Requests in advance by email or through the portal are greatly appreciated but not required.
We will continue to offer walks and one on one fetch and tug times too.

Lots of cuteness lately 🥰
Nellie walks every day, in all weather. I like to take her to a few different places so she gets a variety of smells and experiences. But Brown Woods right up the road from us is one of her favorites. I know this because she gets all foolish and wiggly when we go straight at the traffic light. She enjoyed her walk today even though she had about a zillion snowballs in her legs by the end
We celebrated China's birthday today with some fetch time, pumpkin licki mats and of course TREATS! 💙💛💙

Mackenzie is a certified IBPSA Canine Provider and Specialist, Fur Baby Meets New Baby, and Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid. She is also am certified with the Professional Pet Boarding Certification Managing Group Play, Barkleigh Safe Handling Certification, Vaccination 101, Pet Care Professional Infection Control. I also participated in the Types of Aggression seminar offered by Barkleigh.
Training is more than just sit and walk on a leash. Here is Saxon working on being in the car in a parking lot and not barking at everything. Because that's one thing he needs. Today he sat at a busy convenience store and then went to a drive through!
Jenny is inside at Tractor Supply taking in all the sights and smells while staying calm and using her manners.
Mackenzie is also working with our daycare dogs on basics such as gate manners. off and polite leash walking.
We have new training openings 5 days a week.

If you want to make your own frozen treats for your pet; at Carden we love banana pup cups. When your bananas get a bit too brown freeze the chunks. Once frozen puree in a good blender, (Ninja or Vitamix is great but most blenders can do this), then if you wish, drop a plop of nut butter in there. Refreeze and then serve. Silicone molds or paper cups are good for freezing because you can peel it off and give your dog the treat.

Nellie highly recommends our individual walk service. We go at your dogs speed, if they want to sniff and explore then we do that. Your dogs customized adventure will vary based on the weather, their size, age, coat and what they like. $15 / walk. We also offer snow shoe hikes $20 / SS Hike. Both are available for boarding guests and daycare clients.
Our updated grooming salon is open! We have a new bathing area and a separate drying room, new work stations all designed by Leah for the quietest, least stressful and most relaxing experience possible. We are loving it and the dogs are too! We are now accepting new clients for grooming!
Thank you to Corinth Plumbing and Heating for getting us all the hot water, water pressure we will need and the new laundry room set up! And to Scott Senechal for doing the work. It's beautiful

This special boy is with us for an extended stay and we get to celebrate his birthday with him. He’s loving his new cake toy and all his snuggles from the staff. He even wore the hat like a champ! Happy birthday Bru!

2/22/21 BEAVER IS LOST IN BANGOR
Beaver is a newly arriving adoption who slipped her leash while being transported at Bangor International Airport on Godfrey Boulevard yesterday. She is a female Husky mix, golden brown and black, weighs about 48 pounds and is wearing a collar ad ID tag. She is a shy dog and likely VERY scared. DO NOT CHASE, SEARCH FOR OR YELL TO! Hopefully she is contained within airport boundaries but if you should see her anywhere near BIA, please contact her new mom right away at 207-852-9730.

Great news! We are starting to see a distinct pattern with Beaver and now just need to earn her trust. We have a designated house with informed people working towards the same goal: to get Beaver in a safe space. If you see beaver do not chase or follow her on foot, or in a car. Turn around. Go the other direction. Your rescue attempt may interfere with the hard work being done to earn her trust. Cars and people alike will make her run.

**UPDATED - HE HAS BEEN FOUND!! I can’t thank you all enough for all of the help looking for him and getting the word out for us. He is ok however getting him checked out at the emergency vet to be safe.
Our dog Ranger ran off today on us and we cannot find him. He been missing for about 3 hours now. Our neighbors are helping us find him however if you have anyone in the Bangor area you could share this with as well it would be appreciated. He’s an older dog so we are really worried at this point. Thank you.
Updating with where he originallly ran off. We live on Molly Lane (the neighborhood across from Buffalo Wild Wings) and he ran into the Essex Woods trails area.
